5.0 out of 5 stars At Last, A Dishwasher Safe Travel Mug
A travel mug with the best build quality I've seen. The cap is easy to clean with no crannies to accumulate nasty bits. It has a tight sipping spout allowing you to toss the full mug into the back seat. Great isolation of hot and cold. This one was worth waiting for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bodum Stainless Steel mug is terrific!!!, March 6, 2010

This review is from: Bodum Stainless Steel 16-Ounce Vacuum Travel Mug with Black Silicone Grip (Kitchen)
I looked at many different stainless stell mugs and found this to be the best fit for me. It is a little larger than what I expected, but it doesn't bother me. I like the silicone grip for so that it doesn't slip out of my hands. It has a great seal on the lid that flips open quickly and easily to have an unobstructed spout to drink from. The lid screws on instead of just pushing on like some of the others that I looked at while shopping around. This was the most expensive mug that I looked at, but it was well worth the money. I think it's another instance of "You get what you pay for." :)

I would definitely recommend this to my friends or anyone looking for a very nice stainless steel travel mug.

The good:

This mug will keep your coffee hot for hours after pouring it.

Looks nice, fits in your hands, and is shiny.

THE BAD:

I'm on my second mug in as many weeks, since I had to return the first one. It's "leak resistant", not leak proof. Hot coffee will seep through the vent hole in the lid if tipped to one side. The rubber around the outside likes to walk off of the mug after a few washings. When I called Bodum about a possible replacement of the lid, which was leaking like it wasn't even attached, I was told that they don't deal with replacement parts or defective products, and they instructed me to deal with the place that I bought it from (Amazon). Their customer service was arrogant and overall crappy.

I will NOT buy another product from Bodum, but will definitely to continue to buy from Amazon.com. Amazon really stepped up to the plate, took care of the problem, and had a new mug on it's way to me within hours of my return request.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Travel Mug, February 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a very nice travel mug. It has a rubber bottom so it won't slid around. Fits in cup holders. Keeps my coffee warm for hours and hours so I can sip it and not gulp it down before it cools. Easy to clean and a nice lid that doesn't spray coffee on my face when I open or close it. It has a good weight to it also and looks snazzy.

Not leak proof, as I shook it a bit and coffee jumped out. But I'm not throwing it in my bag or anything. I carry it around and drink it, and it works great for that. I highly recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Leaks, August 8, 2010

It leaks through the air vent hole when closed. A little top heavy in terms of design which makes it feel unbalanced and a little unstable when setting it down

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy cup!, March 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This cup is expensive, but it is completely worth it. The inside is stainless steel (great if you're looking to get away from leaching plastic or aluminum). I thought the outside of the cup might get hot but it doesn't, and the gripper band makes it easy to hold. The lid...it is all about the lid.

This lid is truly spill-proof. When I first got the cup I poured hot coffee into it, snapped the lid closed and turned it upside down - no spilling. Now after several months of use (and I *always* wash it in the top rack of the dishwasher even though it's recommended hand wash) I find that the lid doesn't snap quite as good when I first got it. I can hear the small breather hole leaking a little, while it doesn't leak when I tip it over because I hear it I don't leave it that way for long like I could when I first got it. A couple of times the lid hasn't snapped entirely closed - perhaps it was my fault and I wasn't paying attention, after getting coffee spilled on my hand twice I now double check the lid before I walk out of the house. All in all this is the best lidded cup I've ever owned.

I don't necessarily like to drink piping hot coffee, which is what it'll be if you leave the lid closed, so I tend to leave the lid open to cool it down. The cup definitely keeps your coffee warm for several hours, I used to pour it at home, drive 30 min to my son's swim lessons, leave it in the car for an hour and still have a nice warm cup of coffee for the ride home.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great design but not so great insulation, June 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had a Nissan Stainless mug for years but had to replace it because eventually its seal started to leak. The Nissan looked like it was designed by an engineer, meaning it was all about purposeful function but without flair. So I went looking for something with a design to it, and found this Bodum stainless steel mug which promised to have the best of both worlds, function and design. Ah, if only. The first time I poured my morning hot coffee in the mug I could feel it getting warm in my hand. Its vacuum qualities are definitely below Nissan's. Hot coffee stays hot maybe half as long as it did in my Nissan.

After several months of daily use I can attest to its otherwise very good design. It looks good, it's easy to clean and works well, I am happy with the spout and how the mug feels in my hand. If thermal qualities are not important to you, this is a great choice. Otherwise, go for the Nissan instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly effective, March 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've owned this mug for about 3 weeks and it has exceeded my expectations.

Regarding its ability to maintain the temperature of the contents: I've never had a better mug. I put scorching hot tea in the mug the first day I got it and literally could not drink the teat for 1.5 hrs b/c it stayed so hot. Now, I adjust the temperature of the liquid with milk before capping it.

The mug feels extremely sturdy and strong and there really aren't any unreachable crevices to make cleaning difficult. Once capped, the liquid is contained and there's no need to worry about spills. While the cap is secure, its very easy to open the mug with the flick of a thumb for one-handed consumption. The rubber grip on the mug is removable for dishwasher cleaning, but I'd never put such a fantastic thing in the dishwasher. I've owned many promotional/hand-me-down mugs that were free, but this mug is most definitely worth every penny I paid for it.

2.0 out of 5 stars I was really hoping for better, August 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When I first saw this travel mug, I just loved the way it looked and the promises is had. I had finally given up on my cheap travel mugs that always fall apart or just stop working after a while, or both. I had finally decided to spend some decent money on a decent travel mug.

I read a lot of the reviews, and while I knew they were mixed, I had to believe there was a reason why some people were giving it such applause.

Unfortunately when I got it, I was disappointed. The mug clearly is not leak proof. As another reviewer stated, it leaks through the little air vent it has, even though it has a little silicone plug that is supposed to stop it when the lid is in the closed position. On top of that, my coffee was cool in less than an hour, even if I didn't open it at all for that entire hour. The two features I was greatly hoping for were the two features that this mug failed to have. This mug seemed to work about as well as a WalMart special with at least twice the price tag. I contemplated requesting a replacement as another reviewer did, because that other reviewer said he did that and learned his first mug was defective, but I just thought how ridiculous it is that so many of these mugs seem to be defective. It wasn't worth it to me because I felt like I had a 50/50 chance of getting a defective one again, and I just didn't even want to go there. I returned the mug and followed another reviewer's advice to get the Thermos Stainless Steel King leak-proof travel mug. It's pretty awesome, and even a little cheaper than this mug through Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, July 12, 2010

This review is from: Bodum Stainless Steel 16-Ounce Vacuum Travel Mug with Black Silicone Grip (Kitchen)
I looked at many different travel mug options before finally deciding on this one and I'm glad I did. It has everything I desire in a mug and, although it is not leakproof, the lid seals so well that it does not spill if it tips over. What I like most about the mug (aside from it being completely stainless steel inside, save for the lid) is that the lid is screw-on, with a silicone gasket to seal it. That and the mouthpiece is very easy to clean. It keeps the coffee scorching hot (reviews that indicate otherwise probably were defective products)--1 hour after pouring the coffee in the mug and I still practically burned my tongue. I also like that the silicone band that says "Bodum, etc." is removable (I prefer not to be branded, so I flipped it inside out and put it back on, but you can leave it off, too). One thing I didn't expect about the mug is that it is SHINY steel on the outside, rather than the brushed steel that is so common. This obviously doesn't affect the functionality of the mug, but it shows fingerprints, drips, etc. much more than brushed steel would. It is also so tall (8 inches w/o the lid) and skinny (3-4 inches across) that a bottle brush or dishwand is practically required to clean the entire mug, but, again, a small price to pay for prime performance.
