This set of two double old fashioned/tumbler glasses serves Cape Cods or Irish coffee with equal ease. Crafted of borosilicate glass, which is also used to make scientific lab equipment, the pair is exceptionally strong, lightweight, and thermal. The two-layer construction also resists heat and prevents condensation, so no matter what temperature the beverage is, the glasses remain comfortable to hold and safe for any tabletop. Winner of the prestigious European IF Design Award, this 7-ounce, scratch-resistant set goes safely into the dishwasher and microwave. Mix and match Assam with the Pavina and Canteen lines for a variety of fun shapes. --Kara Karll
Editor's Note: Because the glasses are mouth blown, each one may have slight variations in height, thickness, and weight. Bodum recommends using care when placing ice into the glass to avoid fracturing the inner layer. Do not use metal spoons or place the glass into a crowded dishwasher.

I have to give this cup full marks for esthetics and function.
1) They are very good looking cups and a nice conversation piece. I like the shape of them and the glass is just so sparkling clean and clear. 2) Functionally, they do work nicely as I can hold on to a very hot cup of tea without burning my hands. However, I believe the opening of the cup is too wide to really keep the contents cool or hot for a very long time. But since the cup is only 7oz's, I usually finish the contents before they get to room temperature. Conclusion: I'd get them just for the looks, if nothing else, they're so cute. 6 month update: The glass has unfortunately browned up a little. I don't know if it's because I'm not scrubbing my cup hard enough or because the glass naturally takes the tea stain. But on the other hand, I don't want to scrub too hard so that it scratches the glass. Either way, my glasses are no longer as bright and clean as before. 2 1/2 year update: I've read many other Bodum cup reviews and it appears that many of the reviewers are saying that their cups are fragile. From what I see, it seems that only the ones with handles are fragile. Maybe it's due to the complexity of having a handle? Knocking on wood, so far, my cups have survived 2 1/2 years of daily use. Even more, I drink tea with them and I pour boiling water out of the kettle right into the cup. I mostly hand wash them and put them in the dishwasher about once a month. They still work very well. I find that they do keep hot liquids hotter than regular cups. I still love them and still recommend them.

I bought two of the "canteen" model glasses at Crate and Barrel, liked them and decided to buy more. When I saw the Assam glass, I thought it was likely to be much more comfortable for people with small hands to hold. I bought six of them for myself, and have also given them as gifts. Everyone does seem to like them. I particularly enjoy them for hot tea. Because of the double wall, they seem to have a small capacity for their size. I am sure that they are less sturdy than heavier glass, but so far I have not had any breakage--but I have an all-adult household. They would not be my first choice if they were to be my only, everyday, all-purpose glasses. But if one has room for some extra, special use glasses, these are very nice.

Beautiful for tea,

I am an avid tea drinker who loves the tactile feel of glass. The problem is that most of the decorative tea glasses I have seen are heavy and un-insulated. The lack of insulation makes it difficult to hold your tea without burning your hands. These fit the bill perfectly. They are a pleasure to look at and to hold. The slight taper falls perfectly in the hand. One warning, these are delicate and composed of very thin walled glass and must be handled accordingly. I would not recommend placing these in the dishwasher or for households with small children
