Buy if you have your own chef,
By
This review is from: Body After Baby: A Simple, Healthy Plan to Lose Your Baby Weight Fast (Hardcover)
I purchased this book before it even hit the shelves because of how easy the preparation of the meals was supposed to be. The day before I was induced with my second child, I spent 3 and a half hours at the grocery store (with my 16 month old) trying to find all of the ingredients necessary for the plan. Over $300 later, I thought I had everything. Not so! On the very first day there were items on the menu that were not part of the shopping list. And meal preparation?! Not as easy as described for a new mom with a newborn. I needed a personal chef to get everything done for me. No wonder celebrities rave about this plan...they have money and chefs!

Body After Baby ROCKS!,
By Amy Denoon (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Body After Baby: A Simple, Healthy Plan to Lose Your Baby Weight Fast (Hardcover)
As a 2nd time new momma -- and a busy fashion & beauty publicist -- I was yearning to take off the pounds oh-so-quickly. I put on too much weight the first time around, and even though I watched it more this time, I still indulged in one too many slices of pizza (late night craving???) and too few trips to the gym. Needless to say, after my bundle of joy made his grand entrance, there was much "me" work to be done. Enter Jackie. From the moment I came home from the hospital, Jackie and her Body After Baby Book and Progam make it a no brainer for losing the weight AND feeling great. With no effort -- and all the while enjoying great food -- I was able to shed those extra baby pounds in no time. Now, if only getting junior to sleep through the night was as easy as this....

Why this one is a WINNER!,

You're a new mom, you may be tired or have little time to prepare meals and, even worse, you've got some extra pounds (maybe even more than "Some").
This book can help you shed your weight in record time while still leaving you with plenty of energy. Here's what it contains: VERY EASY RECIPES that are healthy, family friendly and keep you feeling full. I loved the Vegetable Barley soup (as did my family), warm pineapple rings and southwest chicken salad. There is a STRONG EMPHASIS on solid nutrition so breast-feeding moms can be assured their babies will remain healthy...as will Mom A GREAT section which allows moms to incorporate exercise into play periods with their babies, a wonderful way to make sure you exercise....no matter what. You don't have to wait till the baby is asleep and some of the exercises (such as the Torso Stretch) include games like Peek-a-Boo. If your baby is too young for that, you can simply smile and coo and maintain involvement at whatever level your baby can handle. In some of the exercises you actually hold your baby; in others the baby can be in a baby bouncer or lie on a mat next to you. Shopping Lists that aren't overly complicated Lots of illustrations A question/answer section that covers topics such as eating foods to help combat post-partum depression (although the author is certainly not suggesting that food ALONE can cure serious depression).....adapting the plan for mothers of twins....the foods which provide the most energy...how much exercise is enough and how much is too much..and more.

This review is from: Body After Baby: A Simple, Healthy Plan to Lose Your Baby Weight Fast (Hardcover)
It's been two months since I had my son and I have been longing for the motivation to get back into shape. After picking up Body After Baby, I realized this was the answer. Easy to follow at home recipes and exercises, I was able to loose my baby weight and bond with my baby. I was so amazed at the types of food I was able to eat like chocolate. I had my energy back and my body!

It works, but takes will power,

I am a mom of 5. I run our homeschool and 2 part time businesses from home. This is my second time to try the program. My baby is almost 3 weeks old. The first time I used the book was when my 4th baby had just turned one. The first time I only lasted 1 week. I lost 2 pounds that week, but after that we had a lot of get togethers where I needed to eat what was served me and I didn't know how to make it fit in with the book. I was a little disappointed with how expensive it was to cook the recipes and I also discovered I don't like tofu. This time, I've made some minor substitutions that don't affect the calorie count or nutrition facts much, but make it a lot less expensive (such as using mixed nuts instead of buying lots of different nuts singly and substituting frozen berries for fresh) I also made notes to myself of what I liked and didn't like so I could tweak the recipes a bit. Jackie has introduced me to a lot of new foods (like Kale) that I really love.
I did a calorie analysis of the menus and found that they average 1700 calories a day. This is about 1000 calories less than I would need to maintain my current weight, so I am expecting a 2 pound a week weight loss. Now when I must eat away from home, I can estimate what I can eat and stay under my 1700 calorie daily allotment. The book recommends starting the program the day after baby is born, but I can't see how a mother could start fixing the menus before the baby is 2 weeks old. That is when I started the program this time. The exercises are easy but effective and build gradually each day. The shopping list in the book was helpful but missing some ingredients. Double check yoru recipes before heading to the store. I am finding myself hungry at times and it's really hard for me not to clean my kid's plates when they are done, lol. I am 5'6" and weigh 160 pounds (gained 45 pounds this pregnancy and had a 9 pound baby!). I have 30 pounds to lose and am hoping I can stick with this program this time. It is well thought out and very detailed. I appreciate the work Jackie put into it.

Hard to implement as a new mother,
This review is from: Body After Baby: A Simple, Healthy Plan to Lose Your Baby Weight Fast (Hardcover)
While this book is informative and seems to be based on an effective method for losing weight, I found the actual meal plan difficult to follow being a mother of a newborn. I barely had time to do things like showering, cleaning up the house and laundry each day - forget actually making somewhat time intensive meals three times a day! I would have liked to follow the plan as it was laid out in the book, but I just couldn't do it. My experience was that the first 30 days after having a baby are too chaotic to focus on cooking this much. Maybe further down the road I will be more in control to do this program. With that said, I did feel that the book had good information!

not well thought out,

This review is from: Body After Baby: A Simple, Healthy Plan to Lose Your Baby Weight Fast (Hardcover)
I was really excited to get this book after reading all the good reviews. However, it seems as though it was put together haphazardly - not a lot of thought put into it. Seems like Jackie took the recipes she uses for her home delivery meals and slapped them into a meal plan and a shopping list, without giving any thought to practicality and convenience.
She creates a full menu for each day, which is nice, but they are not well organized and create a lot of wasted food. For example, she has you make a lunch every day that serves 4. Which is fine, except you have no way to use the leftovers because she says you must use the entire days' menu, not switch out individual meals. So your extra 3 servings of that lunch go to waste?? She does say you can swap an entire day out, but who wants to eat the same exact thing day in and day out so you can maximize your grocery shopping and not create waste (not something I usually worry too much about, but if I put the effort into making a meal, I would like to be able to eat it). The meals do look good, but I think she needs to put some effort into making it doable for a new mom. Maybe allow you pick and choose the meals and snacks you like each day. The grocery lists are also too extensive - buying two different kinds of peanut butter and using a minimal amount, etc.

As a new, young mom, I was stressing out over how I was going to lose the baby weight I had gained (almost 50 pounds!!!) during my pregnancy. A friend bought me a copy of Body After Baby, and I promise you - it works! The meals are yummy and so simple. I have so much more energy and the best part, I'm almost back to my pre-baby form. Thank you, Jackie Keller!!!

great plan for after baby - not strange foods!,
By
This review is from: Body After Baby: A Simple, Healthy Plan to Lose Your Baby Weight Fast (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading many of the reviews for this book, I found lots of negativity regarding the food. Many said that the items were tough to find at your local grocery store and that they were strange foods. Well, with the exception of some of the whole grains (like whole barley, etc...) I was able to get just about everything for the first 10 days at my local grocery. The meals are creative and fun - and while things did change every day, leaving me with leftovers, it was food that I could feed to the rest of my family. Many reviewers complained that the recipes made food for more than just one person...well, if you need to cut the recipe, I found that it was fairly simple to do.
All in all, I found the food plan great! Now if I could just be self-disciplined enough to actually DO THE EXERCISES, I'm sure Keller's plan would be absolutely fantastic! :) |
