An interesting, original, impressive little movie,
This review is from: Body/Antibody (DVD)
As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a tough one to categorize--and I think that's what made it so enjoyable for me. I was never quite sure where it was taking me, yet every move it made seemed logical and satisfying. The tension really builds in the last act, and the movie pulls off the rare feat of combining horror elements with convincing, non-campy comedy. I thought the acting was particularly great, the three leads forming a tangled love triangle that was sometimes funny, sometimes sinister, and surprising right up to the very end.

Saw this pic at a film festival last year and was blown away. It's a terrific little indie that has stellar cinematography, excellent acting and a plotthat is always surprising. I think it's basically a film noir-- OCD guy get's his perfect little world invaded by bad girl and all hell breaks loose-- but it's also a black comedy, a love story and just quirky enough to be a great way to spend an evening. I Must say I especially loved the guy who played Kip (Rober Gomes) what a find! and the girl who played the film noir "bad girl", Leslie Kendall Dye, has an amazing quality of delicateness mixed with whimsy that brings a totally fresh quality to her role. Kudos to the director-- stop reading this and buy the DVD!

Genre-Bending Body/Antibody Keeps You Guessing,
This review is from: Body/Antibody (DVD)
Is it film noir? Is it a sex farce? Is it a black comedy? Or is it "D" -- all of the above? Body/Antibody is funny, creepy, and romantic all at the same time. Just when you think you know where the plot is going, it turns off into a new direction. With terrific performances by the cast, (Robert James as "Kip" the OCD agoraphobe; Leslie Kendall as "Celine" the new next door neighbor; and Frank Deal as "Frank" the former boyfriend), Body/Antibody is a must-see indie with something for everyone.

This film is actually lots of fun laughs all around. It sucks you in and has you laughing out loud with offbeat romantic comedy twists. Then you are on the edge of your seat as the romance goes off the tracks in an up and down, land slide ride of fun.

Rear Window/Disturbia for the Agoraphobe: Fun, Sexy, Creepy,
This review is from: Body/Antibody (DVD)
Great popcorn movie! Clever premise -- what if you can't go out and really bad things are going on next door? Rear Window meets Disturbia meets VH1's OCD show. The lead actress is that perfect mix of smart and sexy. Surprising plot twists. Highly recommend!

I almost don't want to tell you a thing about this movie so that'll you get to experience it as the completely-unexpected, sublimely-disturbing roller-coaster ride that I did. Psychological thriller? Check. Romantic comedy? Check. Horror film? Check. Twisted-as-heck? Check. Superb, unique, labyrinthine script, impossible to categorize. Fantastic acting and direction. Leslie Kendall Dye's ethereal presence introduces a whole new flavor of femme fatale in her character Celine.

I couldn't decide if it was a comedy, a love story or a really twisted suspense/thriller. For that reason, it obviously has great re-watch value. The leads work really well together - the guy who stars has a movie star handsomeness that is fun to see on such an offbeat character, and the woman has a very engaging sympathetic quality that you never see in a femme fatale character. Nothing about this movie "plays by the rules." Really impossible to predict where it is going. I love seeing a movie that seems to be a truly original story. Highly recommend.

I can only guess that this is a true low budget independent film (at it's finest). I don't know any of the actors, but that only intrigues me when it comes to buying a movie. Most of my DVD collection are films that have never played in a theater, or at the least a wide release. I do own a lot of bad movies, but I also own a lot of great unseen films as well, from buying a whim (exp: "Let The Right One In", "Proposition", "Dream With The Fishes", "Slither", "Candy", "Things Behind The Sun",..) BUT this one stands out. The story is sweet, dark, and outrageously funny. The actors are awesome.Sometimes I rent a movie hoping it will be so bad it's entertaining! This is not one of those movies. Body/Antibody is well thought-out, well executed, and plain honestly I wish I directed this one. I suggest this movie to everybody. This could easily be a big budget movie if it had your "Hollywood celebs" in it and you know what, I think would still have been just as good. But it's nice to see new actors and it's nice when Hollywood doesn't put there two cents into "the story structure" as well. |
