Good introductory video,

This review is from: Body Control [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have been reading about the Pilates method for a long time but since we do not have Pilates classes in my part of the world, I wasn't able to learn more. I bought this video hoping to get introduced to the method. And I must say that I am very happy with my purchase. The instructions are very clear and the tape provides ample time for the viewer to master each movement. Since I have not seen a live Pilates class, I cannot say whether this is a good introduction to the Pilates method but whatever it is it works great. After a few sessions, I really started feeling the effects, I felt longer and more flexible. And what's more, a few days ago I went to a physical therapist for a back problem and the exercises she recommended were all parts of the method introduced in this video. The only thing that made me give 4 stars is that it is a bit long.

This video will put you to sleep,

I am quite excited about the Pilates method of training and have tried a variety of videos by different instructors. Body Control gave a very precise description of the proper alignment and torso control methods. However, it was so slow and boring that after watching the first segment I had to take a nap!. I did continue to watch the rest of the video which had hardly any of the classic Pilates poses demonstrated. I doubt that anyone seeing this video as an introduction to Pilates would continue to explore it further.

Pilates is great!,

This is a good video if you have a lot of time. Pilates is great for toning and stretching the body. I enjoy working with this tape when I have 90 minutes to spare to do the entire tape. The pace is slow and relaxing, allowing time for the viewer to use the proper form. The results are good also, after a few times you can feel your muscles lengthening, and you are able to go a little farther each time you do it!

Great Video!,

I have been taking Pilates classes and this video is great! I have tried many Pilates videos and this is one of the only ones that really tries to teach you about breathing during the exercises. Breathing is such an essential part of doing Pilates. If you can't find a Pilates class in your area, start with this video. Yes, it is long, however, the instruction is excellent, detailed and thorough which is very important as Pilates is much better learned with live instruction and not video.

Excellent instruction,

I felt this was an excellent introduction to Pilates. It does seem slow moving but it gets the job done as far as the results. I also have Living Arts Beginners Mat workout. It's fast paced compared to this but I didn't feel I got as good or as deep a workout as with Lynne Robinson's video. I have over 30 years dance background and 19 years yoga and I have just got interested in Pilates and I'm more impressed with this video than the Living Arts one. The neck in the LA one is in an unnatural position most of the time and is strained. I felt Lynne's instructions were gentle but effective.

My first Pilates workout--I'm looking for more!,

This review is from: Body Control [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I was interested to try Pilates after seeing a brief article in Woman's Day Magazine about it. I do a lot of different exercise videos, from aerobic weight work-outs to yoga. I was very impressed with the clear instructions. The music was soothing. I was especially pleased with the emphasis on back flexibility and core strength. I don't think the 20 minute "daily" workout is enough, but I don't usually have time for a full ninety minutes.

Out of the Darkness...Comes the LIGHT!!,

I have just taken a rough count of 28 Fitness Videos I own. I am a very out out shape, unfit woman aged 58. (200 lbs.)
I have had this video for almost a year without trying it!! Today for the first time I took the wrapping off it and expected another video far above my unfit capabilities..WOW!! This is the Video every out of shape man/woman needs and searches for! What a surprise. Even I can do this!! I can't do it well. I can however, do it. This is what I have been searching for... a starting place, somewhere to shed a few pounds and start my muscles on a work-out. Lynne Robinson is both deliberate and clear. I am so tired of buying a fitness video and not being able to complete more than a couple of minutes. This I can do. A nice parcel of minutes each day and then progress. Progress! What a beautiful word! Thank you Lynne Robinson. You have given me hope and help on regaining my former self again. And I can do this in the privacy of my home. ( I now belong to 2 gyms) and I am so embarrassed working out as I am so unfit! I walk but walking does not do much for me. I had the insight when I purchased BODY CONTROL to also buy the WEEKLY WORKOUT as well, although the second one is still wrapped. I will work away at this one and finally give my poor aging body a treat of regainning my muscles and posture that has evaded me for so long! I am overjoyed with this video and hope I have encouraged the sceptics out there to try this. What a deal this tape is! With all this said about my poor state of fitness I must tell you that I will easily recommend this Video to more shapely, fit and experienced than I am. This is a tape that all people can benefit from as Lynne Robinson EXPLAINS CLEARLY what we are to do and why.*************** There are not enough stars for this Video!

Remarkable Fitness Video!,

Lynne Robinson has got it right! I should know I have 28 fitness videos most of which have been used once or not all as they were just too difficult for me to get my overwieght, unfit body to co-operate with. This video is the one that broke the mould! Lynne Robinson has got it so right. She explains and instructs in a very patient way, for the very first time I have benefitted from a fitness video. How marvellous! I am overjoyed. I can do this! And I will. After all this money beign spent on 28 videos I really only needed this one. For those who are not fully appreciating this video I am at a loss as to why. I value this fitness video so very much I am thinking of placing another order just to have in case something happens to this life changing one.

Too confusing for the rank beginner,
By A Customer
This review is from: Body Control [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I didn't get very far with this. Ms. Robinson begins with an inspiring talk about what pilates can do for you and then lies prone on a mat talking about what she's doing with her muscles. I couldn't follow the explanation. I admit that my abs are ridiculously weak and I am not knisthetically gifted. Those with some previous exposure to pilates may benefit from this video, but it's really confusing for an out-of-shape beginner.

This is probably better than I've rated it, BUT...,

I think I needed to start with something a bit easier as my "core" has been asleep for many years. I am borrowing my in-laws copy of Stephanie Power's Silver Foxes Pilates tape, which I understand is great for those who need to start at a lower level of Pilates movements. I liked what I saw, I just couldn't do the movements. Ms. Robinson's books are GREAT for explaining the theory and background of Pilates, though.
