3.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced on Amazon!
Please be smart about purchasing this book! I saw one person try to sell it for $112 and this book is only $24.95 right off the shelf!!!

Overall, I like the book because it gave me something to work with. I found some of the exercises to be quite helpful and put me in a direction that I needed. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets to the Heart of Weight Loss, December 12, 2007

I'm glad I found this book, it's amazing. It's more than a weight loss book, it gives you the the keys to makeover yourself from the inside out. Sherri shows you how to pin point and heal the negative "heavy" emotions. You also look at your behavior patterns, such as conditioned responses to situations, and find alternative, more positive ways the take back control in your life. It's full of Q&A and techniques to transform your self-image. The CDs that come with the book are a collection of guided visualization exercises. Rich and relaxing, they are an absolute delight. I especially love the "Adventure in Self-Love," "Set Yourself Free" and the relaxation tracks.

For the first time in a long time I'm feeling really good about myself and my future! It's such a different feeling then struggling to stay on a diet and berating myself the entire time.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Although I've just had this for a couple of weeks, I'm really happy with my purchase. This certainly isn't the usual weight loss book. This is a workbook that comes with two CD's and just the CDs alone would be worth the price. They are excellent. The voice on the CDs is so soothing and the journeys she takes you on are wonderful and very vivid. The workbook exercises and the CDs work together to help you connect with the deeper issues behind your behavior. It's working for me anyway, I've lost a couple of pounds and I'm not even "dieting." I just feel like taking better care of myself. I'd definitely recommend this book if you think emotional issues might be responsible for your weight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful, January 4, 2008

This review is from: Body Esteem: Weight Loss Through Self-Discovery (includes 2 Audio CDs) (Paperback)
This book was a Godsend for me. For the first time since I can remember I survived the holidays without gaining anything! And for me that is saying a lot. Holidays are always a stressful time full of parties and just the kind of food I turn for a little support.

After New Year's I always make the same resolution to lose weight. And every year I've lost some and gained it back (plus a few more and another dress size). Yet this year, thanks in large part to "Body Esteem," I know it's going to be different. I can feel it and I also have proof that I can do it (I still fit in my clothes and I've actually lost weight).

I haven't been able to do the book as much as I'd like, but I've been listening to the CDs almost every night all comfy in bed. I sometimes drift to sleep, which is great because I normally have a little difficulty getting to sleep anyway, but the messages are certainly sinking in. I'm not going to say its like magic, but it's really given me a new level of self-love and commitment to myself. And it's like I don't have to work at losing weight so much as I just want to take better care of my body.

There's a lot of good practical information as well as self-exploration exercises in the book, which I found very useful and the CDs are fantastic. I think anyone would benefit from this wonderful book.

Fianally after years of being on Weight Watchers and working out every day, then loosing and gaining my weight over and over again. I decided to work on my mind. I tried other selfhypnosis CDs and they did start to sink in. But Body Esteem really gets to the source of the eating and helps to deal with the issues that kept me over eating even healthy food. Sherri's voice is so soothing and the imagry is so vivid I look foreward to going with her into the places she takes you. I am changing how I eat and can see my goals as a reality instead of impossable. I am loosing regularly now and don't have a disire to cheat or self sabatouge my eating. i have recomended this book to others at my Weight Watcher meetings to help them stay on prgram.

I am, like so many others, a veteran of the weight loss "wars". What Sherri's book and CD's made me realize is that a good deal of the "war" I was fighting was within myself. With the insight and tools I have learned, I am beginning to change the way I think about myself, the way I respond in situations regarding food and for the first time I am hopeful that I can continue my weight loss and more importantly-sustain it. Thanks to this wonderful work, I am now gainig insight instead of weight. I recommend this valuable tool as a great guide for weight loss-and life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, and CDs are good too, May 7, 2008
This review is from: Body Esteem: Weight Loss Through Self-Discovery (includes 2 Audio CDs) (Paperback)
If you cannot find the original, 1985 version of Thin Within by Judy Wardell, get this book. Body Esteem is a workbook with several detailed exercises to help you work through issues you may have that could be preventing you from getting rid of that weight, along with pages of useful tips and advice. The CDs are also pleasant to listen to, which is not always the case with this type of book. Even if you do have Thin Within, this is a good companion to it.

My only quibble with this book is that it is into banning certain foods (albeit mostly junk foods and certain ingredients). I like the Wardell approach much better--if you know you can have whatever you want, whenever you want, you eventually don't want it as much. Yes, of course make better choices where possible, but the occasional indulgence is not going to ruin an overall healthy eating/exercise plan.

4.5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book...Changed My Life!, January 4, 2009

This is one of the best finds I've ever made. I feel like the book might have just saved my life because I had to let go of the weight I was carrying. My doctor has been on me for years about becoming more healthy, warned me of the effects of the weight on my knees, heart, etc., but I just couldn't let go. I was seriously considering getting gastric bypass surgery, but after watching what a friend of mine went through after surgery, I decided against it. About that same time, when I was beginning to think things were rather hopeless, I found this book late one night when reading a post about it on the Oprah site. I now find it completely ironic because Oprah could sure use Body Esteem right about now.

It's been months since I got the book and I am now many pounds lighter and feeling like I got a second lease on life. The author helped me finally let go of some emotional baggage that I've been carrying since my early teens.

Not only is the book well written, the audio journeys are incredible! I'd give it six stars if I could.

I hope this review helps you.

I typically do not purchase items that are about self awareness and finding the "inner you". But this book is amazing! The CD is a little cheesy, but if you do the exercises, they are very thoughtful, relaxing, and allow you to really consider the questions. The workbook is filled with insightful questions, it really does help you get to the root of your weight issues. It teaches you to take care of yourself, understand who you are, and in turn, weight loss will become easier. If your self esteem or body image has suffered because of weight I highly recommend this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars. This is a very helpful resource and the CD's are great., July 11, 2009

I really like this book although as another reviewer stated, I have a different approach to a food plan then the book has. The exercise information in this book is not what I think is the way to go from my research. I wish they had not tried to be everything but had focused on emotional eating and our body images.

I really like the workbook exercises and I am very pleased with the CD's. I think I like the guided imagery of the CD's better from this book then any other product I have ever tried.

I know for myself, there are emotional issues related to weight loss that I need to address for success. This book is a starting point. It suggests seeking professional help for some issues which is very appropriate.
