A Desert Island Requirement,
By A Customer
This review is from: Body Exit Mind (Audio CD)
One of my all-time top discs, I wouldn't want to be stranded without it. Full of rich, thick guitarsand Ian Curtis-like weight-of-the-world vocals, it takes me to the existential plane its title implies. Stockholm and American Money are full-on rockers that balance out beauties like Bruises. "So many bruises that don't show, found yours so long ago." Just good writing from top to bottom. If you get a chance to listen to the disc before this one, Pigeonhole, you'll be equally impressed with the sound, but understand why this is the one you'd trade your last coconut for.

Pearls before swine,

I consider myself fortunate to have, by chance, heard the song "It's not what you know" on local radio and within minutes making purchase here of Body Exit Mind. This band in my estimation is one of the best examples of pearls before swine in a landscape of musical redundance that encompasses pop music. They had a real groove thing going, excellent rythmic structure, powerful and poinient instrumentation and lyrics. And puffft, they were gone.

Compared to their previous album, Pigeonhole, NewFADs found their sound with Body Exit Mind. A much harder album, the band still clings to their unique sound and those darned bongos. Several of their songs are just great modern rock numbers, including Bong, I Take You to Sleep, Beatlemania (with its fun hand clapping), and the anthem American Money.
But the band is also persuasive with their softer edged Bruises, while staying true to their sound and the overall feel of this fantastic album. I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- NewFADs are one of my favorite all-time bands, and this is the album that clinched it for me.

AN album that was tragically overlooked by the masses, yet thrilled those of us who somehow found this masterpiece. I know of no one who has walked away from this album who did not wawnt to borrow it or buy their own copy. Consistently creative. Pop sensibility coupled with base elements of noise rock. Also, here is an appealing facet of conga drums throughout the entire album. One of my favorite albums of all time. (Strangely, one of my fathers also(52 years old.)

Phenomenal album,

Truly one of the best post Hacienda bands to come put of the 90s.
Awesome album from a very underrated band, as said by previous posters, wouldn't want to be stranded on a desert island without it.

I don't know a lot about this band or, for that matter, this corner of music. I have always known about bands like Joy Division, and while respecting them, it is just not my area of knowledge, at least yet. As a matter of fact the only reason I know about New Fast Automatic Daffodils is reading a sample list from DJ Shadows Endtroducing......
But with a name like New Fast Automatic Daffodils and a penny price on Amazon, how could I not bite: New Fast Automatic Daffodils could be a flower pop-60s band, a 70s free jazz loft collective, or, as it turns out, a new wave influenced band. But had this band been named the Forks, I would still like it. It is one thing to dislike sterile modern production, which I do. But I always liked that hue--as opposed to sheen--that radiated from the production of bands like Joy Division, or more recently, My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive New Fa.......: I'm not typing all that again--but this group rocks hard and the hue I mentioned adds, not subtracts, from this music. These guys are not using production to be slick, but achieve a mood--its an other-world feel that actually draws you in to the emotional content of this music, and with the roaring guitars and wonderfully histrionic vocals, that is a good vortex to be drawn into I'll try anything once, and my gamble on theses guys--alright, alright, I'll type it once more-New Fast Automatic Daffodils had a huge pay off

An excellent and diverse album from a great but under-appreciated band. I've been a fan since first hearing them on Radio 1's John Peel show in the UK back in the mid 80's. Tracks 1-6, 9 & 11 are easily the best. Best appreciated when played really loud!

Everything said there is true for me too. I wouldn't want a CD like this to go with only 1 5-star rating!

Thanks very much for this cd! It came promptly and in great condition (except for a cracked cd case but hey that can happen to anyone). It is a much loved album that I used to own but it was lost some time ago and I have been trying to get another copy for a while now. It was too easy doing it this way! Thanks again. Chris.
