1.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful... for about a month, October 17, 2003
By Margo Eve (Northern VA) - See all my reviews
I enjoy the comfort of this product and the convenience of being able to answer my cell phone or activate voice dialing with one touch of a button while my phone remains in its holster.

UNFORTUNATLY, between my partner and I, we've gone through 3 of them in 2 months. The first time, a kink in the wire or a slight tug on the wire rendered the microphone unusable. We were able to exchange them, luckily. This time we've been extra careful with them, however just last night the microphone started to go on my headset again. I can hear others just fine but they can't hear me. It will cut out in the middle of conversations. Not a good thing when driving.

So this would be a fantastic product, if it didn't break so easily. I'm highly disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Extremely comfortable but poorly constructed, January 2, 2006
The Earglove is by far the most comfortable earpiece I have ever used. It is designed like a hearing aid, so you dont need the bracket to go around the ear. You can take that part off, in fact, and just use it as a normal hands-free device.

THAT BEING SAID

To date, I have owned 32 units. I have just laminated one of my receipts that said "lifetime warranty" so the lazer print wont fade and the receipt stays fresh. The quality of construction is so poor that one can only (reasonably) expect the unit to last 3wks to 4 months at the most before phone conversations become compromised. Body Glove used to have a lifetime warranty on this item until mid 2005, but my guess is that too many people were taking advantage of this and causing them to lose more money through replacements than if they would have just built a reliable product to begin with.

Some of the problems that were telltale signs of degradation included: static, fading out of the microphone during conversations, rubber part of the earpiece falling off frequently, wiring coming loose from either the microphone or earpiece, or the answer button would simply refuse to work (this one is usually the first thing to happen).

In short, If you want a great feeling earpiece and have the ability to take it back to where you purchased it without too much inconvenience, then this is the item for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great headset, just what I needed, June 30, 2005
Seems to be some mixed reviews on this headset... so here's my opinion. I bought mine from Radio Shack for $9.99. It was the only one I could find that had a call answer/end button on it (VERY important to me) other than the dorky looking Earglove Flex.

My expectations were pretty low, considering the price and the fact that it did not have a boom microphone. I didn't think you could get decent sound using an omnidirectional mic hanging near your throat.

Anyway, I was surprised by the headset. It may have been inexpensive, but the more I use it the more I appreciate the simple yet 100% functional design. As an engineer would say, it follows the "KISS" principal, for "Keep It Simple, Stupid."

The earbud is very comfortable and is easy to hear. Unlike most earbuds, it stays in the ear very well because the bulk of its weight is supported by the hook that goes behind the ear, rather than just having a bud that simply jams into your ear canal. The hook is very simple piece, but brilliant. The cord from the earbud routes from the bud through the core of the hook and then over the ear, so that the weight of the cord is supported by the earhook rather than tugging the bud out of your ear like other headsets.

As for the mic, I haven't had any complaints so I guess it works just fine. The first time I used it to call a friend, they could not tell that I was on a headset, so I guess it must sound ok. I recommend using the clip that comes on the cord to hold the mic near the mouth. Just slide the clip up the cord until it is very close to the mic, and then clip it to your shirt collar so that it is always near your mouth rather than swinging about your neck.

In summary, it has all the features I need: answer/end button, comfort, easy to hear, decent sound quality on both ends. It may not be the most impressive looking device, but it does its job and it does it very well, at least in my experience. Mine hasn't broken yet, but if it does, I've already gotten my $10 worth out of it and would be happy to buy another. Kudos to the engineers who designed this gem.
