Book Description

February 13, 2004
Body Hate: a Gay Man's Struggle with Multiple Sclerosis is a rarity--an insider look at a gay man's nightmare with a disease known as MS. Though other books may detail the effects and pain of dealing with this incurable and debilitating condition, this book will always have the special ground-breaking position of being FIRST! No other work shows the world of a young gay musician who suffers torments he never anticipated and could not prepare himself to face. The cover artwork is created by Mr. Cate. It is a mask of his face during a severe exacerbation of MS. The book also features a Foreword by Dr. William Russo, Professor at Curry College in Milton, MA.

4.0 out of 5 stars How to listen to your body, February 7, 2007
This review is from: Body Hate (Paperback)
As an EM patient, you feel like under his skin all the time - ever since trying not to worry his family, or watching his friendship links fade as the disease takes its place, or being blessed with self knowledge because of it all.
All written without a blink of self-pity or sorrow, as he could get to learn "listening to his body", Cate give us a great example of how to deal with EM.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Chronicle about Living with MS, March 19, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Body Hate (Paperback)
I never thought I would find a book that showed every step of a gay man's struggle with MS. Yet, here it is. This book is so conversational and easy to read that I almost felt like the writer was sitting next to me in a chair, telling me his story. And as a gay man, I found so many parallels to what I have experienced. I had such a hard time finding gay and lesbian support groups in the MS world. Now this book is a godsend to all gays with MS. Here you see how a young man dealt with his fight against MS. From the first symptoms to discovery to acceptance, this book is like reading a journal. I identified with the writer so often as he tried to find himself after being diagnosed. What a great chronicle, this is must reading for every person with MS, but especially for gay men like myself.
