Andi O'Rourke was raised in a totally male family of firefighters, so it's no surprise that she's one of the few female fire chiefs. But it's hard to maintain her feminity in a job where she has to be one of the guys. When arson investigator Tucker Fields walks into her fire station, Andi is stunned by the way he makes her feel. Tucker wants Andi from almost the moment he meets her. However her job means that if they are to become involved, they will have to keep their relationship quiet so that the men in her firehouse won't know. As the fire burns hotter and hotter between them, Andi is forced to face the fact that she likes how she feels when she's with Tucker. But once Tucker's arson investigation is finished, he's going to be leaving for another investigation in another city. Can they both take a chance on a relationship?

I've been reading Katherine Garbera's books since she began writing Silhouette Desires. I have always enjoyed them, but with Body Heat Ms. Garbera proves that she's got what it takes! The relationship between Tucker and Andi is sexy and emotionally satisfying. Both are characters who aren't sure they want to have a true relationship, but can't help falling in love with each other. Add to this the hint of upcoming stories for Andi's brothers, and Body Heat is a definite winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Its a scorcher...., March 20, 2006
By
Judy "book reader" (Cincinnati, ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Body Heat (Paperback)
Body Heat by Katherine Garbera is an intense tale of firefighters and their lives.

Andi O'Roarke is unique in her chosen field, she is a fire chief and a woman to boot. Andi prides herself on not letting her being a female get in the way of her doing her job. When there are some questionable fires in her district she if forced to hire outside help. This help comes in the package of all male arson investigator Tucker Fields. Tuck brings out the feminine side of Andi that she didn't know she processed.

Tucker Fields excels at his job, he loves putting all the clues together to solve the case. But he is perplexed by his intense feelings and desires for Andi. However the more they have to work together on solving the arsons in her town he fears his love them and leave them way of life is at an end.

Tucker and Andi are equals on the job and in the bedroom. Their chemistry is as hot as any fire they would be called to on the job. Each brings out something special in the other.

Body Heat was the first book I read by this author and I was delightfully pleased. The sexual heat was off the chart and the emotional tug of the characters kept me reading well into the night. Looking forward to the next book by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sizzling romance, April 12, 2006
This review is from: Body Heat (Paperback)
Andi O'Rourke is a fire chief in mid Florida. She has fought hard and long to raise to the level she is, especially in the firefighting legacy family as she has. But, along the way she has forgotten how to not be "just one of the guys" and people see her just that way. She also only dates guys who she can walk all over and who don't understand her.

Tucker Field is a guy's guy who knows what he wants and goes after it. One thing he doesn't want is to settle down as he is determined not to repeat the sins of his father and walk out on a woman and child.

Tucker is brought in to Andi's firehouse to help solve an arson investigation. Tucker is known as a genius in solving fire mysteries. But, he takes one look at Andi and a second pursuit is undertaken. There is a little fire investigation in the book but the majority of the remainder of the book deals with Andi and Tuckers relationship. Can Andi let her guard down to really let Tucker in and will that scare him away?

5.0 out of 5 stars One Hot Read, March 18, 2006
This review is from: Body Heat (Paperback)
As the title depicts this is one hot read, not only on the firefighting arson side, but on Andi's and Tucker's sideline investigations. Andi O'Rourke is one of handful of fire chiefs that there are in the US. She has had to always fight hard for what she wants, especially growing up in a male household, who are firefighters to boot, putting to the side her feminine feelings to get the job done. Tucker Fields, is an arson investigator assigned to her fire hall because of an ongoing arson problem. But this is just the beginning of her problems, Tucker is so attracted to her from the first encounter who sees past her barricades, and Andi is not sure how to handle it all, especially since she is accustom to being one of the boys, although the feelings Tucker brings out she has to admit she likes even if they confuse her. They burn hotter than any fire that they are investigating, especially when they are alone, but they have so many problems to overcome, will they ever be able to make a go of this relationship or is there any kind of relationship outside of the bedroom?? It is a hot, scorching read from start to finish, that takes you on a few twists and turns along the way.

Most of us are familiar with Katherine Garbera from her writings in the Harlequin line. This is her first Single Release for Brava Publishing and I for one am looking forward to more from her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great debute, March 30, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Body Heat (Paperback)
Body Heat is more romance than suspense, but it will leave readers tingling for more from this author.
Tucker Fields is a fire investigator who has no ties - especially to women. Andrea O'Rourke is a woman who also has no ties - especially because she is one of the few female fire chiefs in the nation.
When these two meet over a case, their chemistry is combustible. But they have to work through their inner vulnerabilities before they can be together.
The arson investigation is less than a subplot, but details of it are nicely woven into the main story of Tucker and Andi's relationship. The author also leaves enough open to start a romantic series featuring the O'Rourke family.
The writing is tight, bright and flows naturally. This is a GREAT read and I would more than pay full price. I look forward to more from this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars hot firefighting romance, March 3, 2006
This review is from: Body Heat (Paperback)
Fire Chief Andi O'Rourke is considered by her town and her crew a great firefighter and even better supervisor. Used to being around firefighters as that has always been the family business, she is not afraid to direct her staff and does so with a passion for the job.

However, her personal life is a zero. She is clueless when it comes to the opposite sex as she has always been accepted as one of the guys. That is to everyone except fire investigator Tucker Fields who dreams of making it with Andi as he sees her as a great firefighter but also a desirable woman, not one of the guys. He has Andi pondering if it is okay to be a competent firefighting sexy woman that is when she does not fear her feelings for him. As they work closely together, Tucker wants to set the night on fire with Andi, who he believes can be his peer on the job and his lover forever.

The lead duet make this firefighting romance hot and fun as Tucker tries to persuade Andi that she can be a desirable woman and a competent firefighter. The story line is driven by this pair as they work undercover and he wants to go under the covers with his beloved. Though both are professionals, the arson investigation takes a back seat to the BODY HEAT generated between Tucker and Andi.

Andrea "Andi" O'Rourke is a fire Captain and she has worked hard to be seen by her men as a strong person...not as a woman. But, now something or rather someone has changed that. His name is Tucker Fields and he makes her melt and challenges her at every turn. She's not used to not having the upper hand and Tuck is not used to being submissive. Will it work out between them?

Tucker is a arson investigator. He has been called to help Andi and her crew solve several suspicious fires. He is not expecting a fire of a different kind to flare between him and the sexy captain. But, will he be able to walk away from her when it's time for him to move on or will he finally find a reason to stay?

This was a fair romance but what kept it from being great is Andi. This character was just too strong and it made the romance between Tuck and her seem forced and less then romantic. Still the heat between the characters is hot and the mystery of who is the arsonist is engaging.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not worth over $10, April 24, 2006
This review is from: Body Heat (Paperback)
I am not a professional reader, but I do read a lot of romance novels, usually over a dozen a month. I enjoy a wide variety of romance settings, from historical to contemporary, thrillers to paranormal, e.g., Sandra Brown, Nora Roberts, Linda Howard, Sherrilyn Kenyon, just to name a few. This book was the first time I've tried this author and I was disappointed (particularly since the book is one of the annoying trade paperbacks costing over $10). Editing was really poor. For example, it really threw me off a bit when I first encountered "Andrea" a bit into the book because I thought that was a new character when it was just Andi's full name. But the writer never introduced the idea that Andi was a nickname to begin with -- then throughout the book Andrea and Andi would annoyingly be used interchangeably, sometimes on the same page. Same with use of "Tuck" and "Tucker". The arson investigation never felt well interwoven as part of the storyline; instead it was a mere background story, and not a very interesting one at that. It felt almost like an afterthought. The romance/relationship aspect was okay. Overall I am not sure I will try another one of this author's books again.

I spend a lot of time reading romance books and this one is one of my favorite books of all time. I just couldn't put this one down. The romance between Angie and Tucker was very steamy. Makes me wish that Tucker was a real person.

1.0 out of 5 stars Definitely NOT worth the money., July 1, 2006

Yet another author (like Lori Foster) that's more interested in writing as many graphic sex scenes as possible at the expense of plot or character development. Come on ladies, if you want to write porn, write porn. But if you want to write romance, as this book is classified, build up the characters first and don't have the sexually expclicit come-ons and thoughts (of the characters) happen by page 5. I found this so annoying I only made it to page 43 before throwing the book down in disgust. I'm even more disgusted knowing that I paid $14 dollars for this. Wish there was a money back guarantee on these things.
