Sandy and Clint have been the best of friends since their teens. They grew up in the same run down apartment complex and learned to depend on each other early on. Clint travels for his job, but stops in every now and then to spend a few days here and there with his pal. This time he's visiting with a purpose, it seems he finally has come to realize that he is in love with her, he wants to tell her. But when Clint shows up in the middle of the night his hopes for her returned affections are dashed when all she can talk about is a new man she is interested in.

This was a lighthearted and fun read. Up until about the midway point I was enjoying every minute of it as I happen to love stories about best friends coming together romantically. Clint decides to teach Sandy the art of seduction and body language to help her snare her love interest and also in the hopes that it will make Sandy look his way. It's a kooky idea, but it works for this book and it gave me a couple of chuckles here and there.

After about the midway point in this book I started to get a bit frustrated. For best friends these two lack some serious communication skills with one another. I couldn't help but want one of them to be honest with the other and face facts; it got silly after awhile watching the two of them pining for one another all the while thinking the other wanted nothing to do with a more intimate relationship.

Then for some reason at about the same midway point, Ms. Brockmann started peppering, excessively, Clint's dialogue and thoughts with "Lord, "Mercy," "Have Mercy" and any variation of the sort. It didn't fit his rugged and sexy motorcycle man character and it gave him this sort of hokey golly gee wiz vocabulary, a different feel from the beginning of the book.

Although this book was originally published in 1998, I am happy to say it didn't show its age at all. If you can get past my few nitpicks I think you will find a quick and enjoyable easy read, great for the up and coming beach weather!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best love is based on friendship, September 12, 2001

This review is from: Body Language (Loveswept) (Mass Market Paperback)
The characters are very strong and well developed. Clint McCade realizes one day that the life he always wished for, free lance photographer and free spirit, is empty and unsatisfying. He then realizes that the only time he has ever been happy is with his best friend Sandy Kirk. So he hops on his motorcycle and shows up at her door in the middle of the night prepaired to admit his love for her . . . until she mentions the great guy she met and the love he inspired in her.
His heart crushed, he realizes that the only thing he can do is help his nervous friend to land the man she wants by coaching her in sytle and body language. His lessons soon turn amorous and Sandy soon falls for Clint McCade.
The story is incredibly moving and a great read that contains enough background into a great friendship that is the basis for an incredible love. Truly enjoyable.

2.0 out of 5 stars My body language after reading? (Shrug)!, February 7, 2009
The best thing about this book is that it's short, and wasn't needlessly padded, as so many other books like this would be. Even at just under 300 pages, and after needing only a couple of days to finish, it seemed longer...not a good sign.
Another story that does OK with 'witty banter' betwen the lead characters, but offers no real depth or substance. Just enough predictably hokey things happen to set up the predictably hokey ending, and presumably they both live hokily....uh, happily ever after!

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick Read!, August 24, 2009
I am a fan of SB's Troublshooter series so I decided to try out a few of her earlier novels. This book took less than a day to read. It did not challenge me or require any rereading. The characters are simple and very likable. There are miscommunications and misunderstandings that are quite believable. The big conclusion is sweet and just what you would expect. I say try this book if you are looking for a quick read or something to read after finishing an emotionally or intellectually challenging book (that's why I read it). If you are a fan of SB, give this a try to see how much she has grown as an author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Best friends with benefits, July 9, 2008

Roving LA-based cameraman Clint McCade finally comes to the realization that he's in love with his best friend Sandy Kirk, and travels through the night to Phoenix to profess his love, only to discover that there's a new man in her life. Dejected, he decides the help her land her man to at least see that his best friend is happy. But soon finds that teaching her the fine art of seduction through body language might be too much of a temptation. Sandy is in love with Clint also, but both fear revealing their feelings and taking their relationship to another level. When he proposes to help her make the new guy more interested, she wishes that he weren't just playing a part... but is he?

Originally penned in 1998, Brockmann's latest re-release appears to have been dated even then due to the pretty unrealistic and cheesy dialogue. For two supposed best friends, there was a huge lack of communication between them, and that got annoying after awhile. However, I really liked the plot and storyline, particularly the history between Clint and Sandy. I just wish that when authors re-release their material and command full retail price, that they at least try to improve on their early offerings (Lisa Jackson does a great job of this).

2.0 out of 5 stars Miscommunication, May 22, 2008

I am a big Suzanne Brockmann fan but I find poor communication as a plot device pretty tedious. This is definitely not on par with her usual work.

Body Language is fun, charming, sensual and sincerely an incredible read! Honestly, for this reader it's my first Suzanne Brockman book and definitely will not be my last!

You'll adore Clint McCade, his bad boy looks and charm and will definitely melt when he realizes that his best friend Sandy Kirk since childhood he loves and wants to marry.

As for Sandy Kirk, she's talented, fun, adorable and secretly adores Clint. Their journey in finding love, well you won't want to miss it!

4.0 out of 5 stars AMUSING FRIENDS TO LOVERS ROMANCE, July 19, 2010
By
Buggy "SUNNIE Day reader" (British Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
Originally published in 1998 BODY LANGUAGE is a light-hearted and amusing friends to lover's story. Touted as romantic comedy this is a quick read that for the most part I enjoyed, especially during the ending chapters when there were less misunderstandings between our couple and a few surprises.

Sandy and Clint have been best friends since they were kids. Growing up on the wrong side of the tracks they learned early on that they could always depend on each other. Sandy's now the successful owner of a video production company and Clint's award winning photography keeps him in demand, drifting from one exotic job location to the next. However at the end of the day, no matter where he is, his thoughts always return to Sandy.

By the time Clint realizes that he's actually in love, jumped on his Harley and roared back into Sandy's life to declare himself she has (of course) set her sights on another man. And oh the irony, now she's asked for his help in landing this new ultimate dream man. Somehow Clint's going to have to teach Sandy the art of seduction and body language all without giving himself away in the process. To complete the comedy of errors we soon learn that Sandy's also secretly in love with Clint but doesn't want to risk losing her best friend and knows his free spirit can't be tamed. So begins a series of mixed messages and wrong impressions as our pair set about seducing each other under false pretences.

I usually find poor communication as a plot device tiresome but this was handled well and never taken too far. The dialogue however does tend to get a little cheesy at times and for some weird reason halfway in Clint's starts saying "mercy" or "lord have mercy" every couple of pages. This not only didn't suit his character but just plain annoyed me. Clint as our drifting badboy in leather is a fun and sexy hero though and I liked the fact that he wasn't written as the stereotypical biker boy either. This metrosexual also knew a thing or two about women's clothes, hair and makeup (from shooting fashion models) and seeing him apply Sandy's make up and coif her hair was fun albeit slightly strange.

I was bothered by the fact that Sandy kept trying to change Clint even though she supposedly loved him the just way he was. She got him to cut his hair, shave off the beard and then dressed him in LL Bean and collared shirts when I just wanted him to keep wearing those delicious faded jeans and leather jacket. I've noticed that Brockmann spends an obscene amount of time talking about hair and clothes. I'm new to her writing so I don't know if this is a trademark or just particular to her category romances? All in all though a quick, enjoyable and easy read. Cheers

3.0 out of 5 stars Mere Romance, November 5, 2008
Suzanne Brockman disappoints in this one. It's a plain old romance, with no adventure. Some earlier books featuring Seal Team 16 and the Troubleshooters were romantic adventures, and a much better read.

couldnt' finish it. Not worth your money, she is a very good author but this must be a very early attempt, looks like a harlequin type of book. If you want her best look out for her troubleshooter's stories which have much more backbone, plot and sensuality.
