5.0 out of 5 stars Body Language by Aki Morimoto
I made an error: I bought this book thinking it was a graphic novel (the cover is pretty cute) and instead it's a yaoi novel. It's my first time I read a true japanese yaoi novel and my feelings are puzzled.

Overall I have to say that I like it, but it's clearly a novel written by a woman for women. Why I say this? Cause, after reading hundreds and hundreds of...

I had been anticipating this new yaoi novel since I saw it's release date on June Manga, unfortunately this new edition of m/m writing fell short. There seems to be a lot missing to the story, not only was it extremely short but it seemed to be the sort of story I'd find at fictionpress. I'm not sure if it was because of the editors/translators but this story didn't seem...

5.0 out of 5 stars Body Language by Aki Morimoto, March 18, 2008
This review is from: Body Language (Yaoi Novel) (Paperback)
I made an error: I bought this book thinking it was a graphic novel (the cover is pretty cute) and instead it's a yaoi novel. It's my first time I read a true japanese yaoi novel and my feelings are puzzled.

Overall I have to say that I like it, but it's clearly a novel written by a woman for women. Why I say this? Cause, after reading hundreds and hundreds of gay romance, I know certaing things about gay love (maybe more than I want) and there are some sex scene in this book that are impossible, "realistic" impossible. But still it's almost an erotic novel, with a lot of sex, and I think that it reaches its goal, to entertain you for some enjoyable hours.

Kanae is a beautiful guy, almost too pretty that he can be mistaken for a girl. He is an out of town college student, and so, without long time friends, and being helplessly shy, he has made a reputation of cold beauty. Rumors say he is bisexual and that he is an host. Instead Kanae is virgin and he has chosen to ignore all the rumors without denying them nor confirming. But one day Yuuichi, the most notorious womanizer of the university, decides to be his knight in shining armor and to rescue him from all the people who mock him. And Kanae falls in love at first sight for this handsome guy with an incorrigible behaviour.

They are friends but Kanae yearns for more and what he has the chance, he proposes to Yuuichi: better some days as his lover than a life as his friend, in this way he will have the memories to warm him. He knows that Yuuichi's interest is easily lost after some days he makes sex with a girl, and he is surprise to realize that their relationship grews steady more the days pass. But Kanae is not sure of Yuuichi's love, and he counts the days to their break.

As I said, there is lot of sex in this novel: the two guys can't be in the same scene without making sex and they are the only two characters of the novel, so, you can understand how much sex there is. But I find it exciting and not boring, so, if you start reading this novel knowing what you will find and not searching to noblize it to something more, it's a pretty good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read, July 10, 2008
This review is from: Body Language (Yaoi Novel) (Paperback)
I liked the story and it never got boring! The scenes reminded me of something that you would more daydream about rather than doing. It definitely wasn't realistic but it kept me interested throughout the entire book. The sex scenes were graphic and there was a lot of them, which was good. I really liked the characters too. The translation wasn't too bad either.

There seems to be a lot missing to the story, not only was it extremely short but it seemed to be the sort of story I'd find at fictionpress. I'm not sure if it was because of the editors/translators but this story didn't seem to really stand up to the summary in the back. The art is really pretty and some of the interactions with kanae and Yuuichi were amusing but I would suggest you borrow or read it at the bookstore to save you money it should that everyone one sitting to read this short book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot and fun, December 28, 2008
By
This review is from: Body Language (Yaoi Novel) (Paperback)
No, of course it's not a great literary masterpiece, but it does what it intends to do. It makes you smile a little, pant a little and go awww.....

I like how Yuichi goes from being a "player" to a faithful boyfriend. We all can figure out it's because he didn't really like girls in the first place. When he finds the boy of his dreams (Kanae) he becomes the perfect mate. This has the most sex of any yaoi novel I have read to date! The scene in the restroom, the scene on the train(who hasn't wanted to have sex in a busy public place, but be completely unnoticed?), and the scene where Kanae thinks he has been cheated on are hot, hot, hot!! True, no human being could keep up the pace that they do, but it's fun to imagine....

Personally I thought the book was great. The author catogorized it 'erotica', so naturally the novel is filled with deliciously sexy scenes. And they were HOT! I've never read a more stimulating yaoi novel. You should buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Actually its 4.5 starss, May 29, 2008

I enjoyed this light read. It sweet, sexy and funny. The plot and characters are a little thin but I don't really read Yaoi for its complexity. ^_^

2.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time, June 4, 2009
This review is from: Body Language (Yaoi Novel) (Paperback)
I do like yaoi mangas and novels, and I could name some real gems among mangas. The novels on the other hand serve a somewhat lighter, entertaining side, but still they can be judge on their own merits. With that in mind I have found some novels pleasant, other amusing, others sexy. Unfortunatelly, "Body Language" is nowhere there because it's bad. I mean really bad, and I'm explaining why:

Writing style: It was the most lazy, amateur text I have ever read. It felt more like a sketch or notes for an unwritten yet novel than anything else. I am surprised there was a publisher willing to take the risk.

English text/translation: The English text had grammatical mistakes and there were words gone missing, which at points made it difficult to understand what a sentence was supposed to mean.

Story and characters: The supposed story is simply a pretext for sex scenes which lead to more sex scenes, and so on. Nothing wrong with sex scenes in general (they are more than welcomed if they are well-written), only that here we have an endless, boring and much predicted repetition of the same thing over and over again. The description of sex scenes has nothing to do with "sultry", as the back cover inform us, as most of them defy any aspect of aesthetism --or "cuteness" if you want-- with some blunt details that sound at least gross.

The characters are by far the most unrealistic found in this genre -- even for those women readers who want to kill some time off. How a heterosexual (Yuichi) who sleeps with every single female around goes to bed with his best friend (Kanae), makes then a sudden turn and even offer him flowers --red roses, mind you-- is something I cannot fathom. As I can't fathom either, using my logic at least, why Kanae thinks he has more chances to be with Yuich for a long time if he pretends to be the sluttiest of the sluts than admitting he is not.

If you don't care about a little bit of realism in stories and sex of *any* kind is your thing, then buy it. Otherwise, you'd be better off buying some other novel.

I give this novel two stars only for the beautiful illustrations by Tsubaki Enomoto, and nothing else. I'm sure this story could probably had been more interesting in the hands of another writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very much enjoyed, January 29, 2011
This review is from: Body Language (Kindle Edition)
This is the first yaoi novel I have ever read, and I enjoyed it very much. It was a sweet fun story that I will reread many times. While deep make you think stories are good too sometimes its fun to just relax and and read a story like this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bodies, January 29, 2011

I enjoyed this story very much. it wasn't too short and it wasn't too long. it could use more complete illustrations, and there were a few editing errors where on some lines it wasn't clear who was speaking, or where one Character was listed as speaking, but it made more sense for the other to say that line. Over all it was a smurfy read
