A VERY HELPFUL "DICTIONARY" OF NEW AGE TERMS AND CONCEPTS,
By
This review is from: Body, Mind & Spirit (Paperback)
This 1994 book is subtitled, "A dictionary of New Age ideas, people, places, and terms."
Authors Eileen Campbell (also author of Aquarian Guide to the New Age) and J.H. Brennan (author of The Reincarnation Workbook: A Complete Course in Recalling Past Lives, Shiva's Challenge: An Adventure of the Ice Age, Astral Doorways, Occult History of the World: v. 1, The Magical I Ching, etc.) wrote in the Preface, "Hopefully, this dictionary, which covers a whole range of different subjects---different spiritual and esoteric traditions, paranormal phenomena, people, and places---will prove a useful starting point for those embarking on a voyage of self-discovery." Here are some quotations from the book: "(Lynn Andrews is) very much a female Castaneda... In spite of the controversy about her work and her denunciation by the Native American movement in general, there is no denying that Lynn Andrews has helped many women to nourish and fulfill themselves and find their power." (Pg. 5) "Since sun sign astrology, as this form of horoscope is sometimes called, divides the entire population of the planet into only 12 different categories, it is difficult to take seriously as a basis for either prediction or character analysis." (Pg. 16) "HOLOGRAPHIC THEORY: Deriving from holography (three-dimensional photography by laser, whereby any part of the holographic plate can be used to reproduce the whole image), holographic theory postulates that as well as a whole containing parts, the parts also contain the whole." (Pg. 112) "IMPLICATE ORDER: Central aspect of a thesis postulated by contemporary physicist David Bohm who argues that quantum theory ... has provided ... that fragmentation is purely illusory and reality can best be understood as a whole, which changes all the time." (Pg. 123) "MORPHIC RESONANCE: A term coined by Rupert Sheldrake to describe the explosive acquisition and spread of certain behavior patterns among wild animals." (Pg. 153) |
