A wonderful story of self discovery,
By Thomas Gal "Book Lover" (Philly, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Body By Night (Mass Market Paperback)
Body by Night by Zuri Day is an excellent story about a plus size gal, D'Andra Smalls, and her quest to live a healthier life after an emergency room scare. She decides to go to Bally's but of course she starts having second thoughts and is sitting in her car debating whether or not to enter when this tall drink of chocolate comes up to her and convinces her to go on in. Night is a personal trainer who's working on opening up his own gym. He just got out of a bad relationship and is not necessarily looking for a new one when he finds this beautiful, woman in her car waiting to go inside. She's not his usual supermodel looking type, but he decides to help her out on her quest to be healthy and in the process, falls for her.D'Andra has her issues with men, especially after finding her childhood friend in bed with her boyfriend and having a mother and sister who treat her like Cinderella before she meets her fairy godmother. Although she tries to keep herself from falling for Night, she does anyway. But they still have to deal with his conniving ex, her selfish sister, her emotionally abusive mother and all kinds of stuff. This is an excellent book! I love that D'Andra's reasons for loosing weight had nothing to do with being a size 2 but with being healthy. That's a much more positive message. And Night was fabulous. He had his own issues to work through and he wasn't looking for romance any more than she was. But romance found them where they least expected it. If you want a good, emotionally satisfying read, pick up Body by Night by Zuri Day.

Hats off to Ms. Zuri Day for stepping out and creating a unique story line that features a beautiful voluputous fuller-figure heroine that gets her "Midnight" man...I just loved this storyline and though I'm already an empowered woman, I became even more empowered after reading this book...I also want to thank you for creating a character like D'Andra who was so real and relatable to anyone who has ever struggled with their weight....It was great that you discussed real topics that are revelant in today's household (Health Issues, Paternity, Divorce, Adultry, Sibling Jealousy, Parent Favoritism, etc)....You opened the door for dialogue on so many subjects that are just not openly discussed....I also want to say THANK YOU for addressing the issues of becoming HEALTHY and not just losing weight....You allowed D'Andra to have her own voice and you supplied great data that did not consist of fad diets and unrealistic goals....I just loved this book and could not put it down until I completed it....It was great to read about a fuller-figure woman getting some romance and love and it was done oh so tastefully....We need more storylines like this one, so please write some more because I'll be waiting!!!!

Worth it's weight!,

Plus size D'Andra Smalls is about to talk herself from going in the gym when personal trainer, Night Jujuan Simmons overhears her and talks her to giving it a chance. He's drawn to her but thinks it's because she would be a great model of before and after for the opening of his own gym. They have a very nice story that unfolds from friendship to lovers with humor, family drama and old exes thrown in. What I like about this author is, the men are strong and know who and what they want out of life and set out to accomplish that. Eventhough ex's try to come in and start trouble, they're not swayed. There's never chapter after chaper of misunderstandings and the women are not so insecure that they can be pushed out of the picture. There's no major secrets that could destroy the whole relationship until they're put together almost mysterioulsy at the end. I really enjoy reading Zuri's books.

Hmmm..... Body by Night?,
This review is from: Body By Night (Mass Market Paperback)
Well written fiction about health, nutrition, and exercise with a little romance. D'Andra is a young full figured woman with health issues who sets out to lose weight. Night, a handsome personal physical trainer is helping D'Andra reach that goal.D'Andra has just ended a relationship with her boyfriend after she catches him in bed with her best friend, which she refers to all men as "walking dirt". Night has also ended his relationship with his girlfriend due to trust issues. So the attraction between the two heats up during D'Andra training sessions. There are quite a few things going on in this book regarding D'Andra and Night families, which I won't go into. I consider this book an enjoyable read, but I didn't feel the "jump off the page" love connection between D'Andra and Night, so with that said judge for yourself and read the book.

Love isn't about Size,

This is my first read from Ms.Zuri Day and it was better than I expected.. When you read the summation on the book it give's you the impression that this is a overweight girl who gets the man but it is so much more than that. The character's are true to life which makes it more realistic because of the many different issues that was brought to the forefront such as paternity issues, sibling rivalry, love, low self-esteem. You found that this young lady D'Andra was stronger than she gave herself credit for. It was AWESOME that she wanted to lose weight for health reasons and not to get a man...but overweight or in shape..The man saw virtue in her that can't be bought. I think this book sheds the light on when it comes to choosing someone for yourself that one should look past the cosmetics of a person because pretty on the outside and ugly on the inside can cause a world of heartache, pain, and it can be a waste of time...

I'll admit it held my attention but there was no wow factor to me. Zuri could have done more with the climax... and the whole book for that matter. I'll prob read it again if i'm out of my mind bored. it was just... too pretty.

"Body by Night" is a well written romance tale about two unexpected people who meet and sparks fly. D'Andra Smalls is overweight with low self esteem. After getting rushed to the ER as a result of her high blood pressure, D'Andra's doctor demands she lose weight for her health. D'Andra finds herself at a local gym to work out....and then she meets personal trainer JaJuan "Night" Simmons. Six feet of toned muscualr sexy dark chocolate.Night helps D'Andra out on her first day at the gym, and agrees to train her in his home gym. D'Andra can't believe that this fine, sexy man wants to work one on one with her!! Night is determined to shape D'Andra's body and get her healthy, so she can be the spokesperson for the gym Night plans to open. D'Andra spends her nights at work as a nurse and the days when she sleeps, her sleep is filled with dreams of Night. Night and D'Andra have been hurt in previous relationships, but neither can help feeling attracted to the other. As the weight comes off the heat is turned up, and D'andra and Night are working out in more ways than one!!! Mix in a little drama from D'Andra's family and Night's snobby ex and you have a great little novel and a wonderful story of unexpected true love!!!

Body Workout,

A broken love relationship, a stressful home life, and terrible eating habits send plus-size beauty, D'Andra Smalls to the emergency room. After being diagnosed with high blood pressure and diabetes, D'Andra is determined to live a healthier lifestyle. She begins by making better food choices and joining a fitness club, but the lack of support from her family and her own low self-esteem makes taking control of her life challenging. While sitting in her car debating whether to go inside the fitness club, a deep sexy voice speaks to her. D'Andra's eyes feast on the six feet tall, ebony Adonis, JuJuan "Night' Simmons. As Night, a personal trainer, whips her body into tip-top shape, D'Andra sees a caring, softer side to Night as his feelings for her are becoming hard to control. The magnetic attraction they have for each other will bring them closer in more ways than they could imagine. The pages of BODY BY NIGHT are dripping with fire and desire. The electrifying chemistry between D'Andra and Night is very intense and raw. Their characters are clearly developed, making them easy to visualize. The secondary characters and subplots add a velvety touch to the book. I am most happy how the author describes D'Andra's weight loss as a lifestyle change and not a diet. BODY BY NIGHT is an emotionally stimulating and romantic story. Reviewed by Sharon Lewis of The RAWSISTAZ(tm) Reviewers

What a great body of work. I enjoyed the book cover to cover. I admired D'Andra's character. She focused on getting healthy but did not becoming fanatical about losing weight. I am so happy she stood her ground and found her own way on her own terms. The dysfunctional relationship between D'Andra her sister and her mother added to the rich story line. Having a parent treat one child better than the other can be found in millions of households around the world; understanding why that was in this story was heart wrenching. The hero in this story made this book complete. It would be fate that D'Andra would fall for a tall, dark, handsome and physically fit personal trainer. Night's caring attitude, love for his mother and sexy swagger kept me turning the pages and cheering for him and D'Andra. I do believe there are many men out there interested in inner beauty as well as the outward appearance; this book certainly made me a believer. Although Night was bossy, his encouragement and patience with her as she started working out with him was touching. There were a few moments I was scared that Night would buckle under pressure...whew! The love scenes are hot and left me wanting more; literally. The other secondary characters added to the storyline and made the entire book believable. This is a great love story that you can read over and over again. Kudos to Ms. Day. I just purchased her earlier work, it has to be as good as this.

This review is from: Body By Night (Mass Market Paperback)
I could not put this book down. I want to be the first to congratulate Ms. Day on a great book! I especially love the emphasis she puts on being healthy and not just losing weight. This novel is also about self love and how you have to love yourself first and putting yourself first sometimes isn't selfish. Night was a great leading male character. Intelligent, Sexy, sweet, all that rolled into a great package. The main character D'Andra was also great. The twist and turns in the book will keep you interested. I started this book at 7:00pm last night and did not put it down until I finished at 2am!!!! Great work!!!!
