Book Description

September 1997
Full of exquisite, full color photographs, this book is like no other book on body painting. The level of detail is incredible! The women model signs of the zodiac, complex geometric patterns, and strikingly beautiful and intricate abstract designs in a multitude of colors. But most impressive are the models who "wear" everything from sexy lingerie to shorts with suspenders. You'll find it hard to believe it's paint! No two designs are remotely similar! This book is a must have for all body painting enthusiasts.

About the Author

Willem Buis was born in 1930 in the Dutch countryside. After graduating from a commercial trade school, Buis fled to Argentina rather than serving in Holland's Army, which was embroiled in a war with Indonesia at the time. There he eked out a meager living selling paintings.

Six years later, he returned to Holland and continued to produce paintings. With money still tight, Buis resorted to painting on models who posed for no charge) when he could not buy canvas. Since the paintings were on models, Buis realized he could not hand the completed works on his walls. To capture and display the paintings, he borrowed a camera and continued to paint.

Now, the artist works on improving and perfecting his paintings, a process that will certainly never end.

I was looking for a book that contained his body paintings for the zodiac. This book was interesting, but not what I was looking for. Glad I bought a used copy, saved myself a bundle!

The paintings range from boring to pretty darn amazing...if you appreciate nude bodies and art, you'll probably enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Detail Reveals All, January 17, 2001
This review is from: Body Painting (Hardcover)
An excellent book showing the excellent painting detail results which can be achieved using the human body as a canvas. There is a crispness in the detail of the paintings, the painter displays a sharpness in the images. Great care seems to have been taken in the attention to the detail and development of the intricacies of the images. The painting is directed mostly to the trunk of the models and the photographs focus on this region. There is one painted body per page with only one duplication. The models do appear a number of times in different guises. A must for the coffee table.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, not great, March 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Body Painting (Hardcover)
There are very few books of this sort around, so if you're into the medium of bodypainting, it's a keeper. But I found it wanting in several areas. Some of the painting jobs are quite good, others (including the cover shot) are not particularly well-done. The photography and modeling are adequate but uninspired-- they all seem to be taken with the same lighting, from the same angle, with the same attitude. The images themselves appear to be story illustrations or ad art, and many don't stand up too well out of context. In short, it's a book of commercial art images of attractive nudes with stuff painted on them. If that's your bag, this is your book.
