A Riveting Thriller,
By A Customer
This review is from: Body Politic: A Griffin Dowell Suspense Novel (Paperback)
Body Politic is a political/legal/medical thriller that has no mercy on the reader. It begins a bit slowly with a little girl's dying brain rambling, but after the prologue, there's nowhere to stop. The characters are well-rounded, and the action is non-stop. What is more, although there are murders and suicides, and other such stuff, Body Politic is written cleanly, not one gratuitous "shock" word, not one gratuitous scene. My young daughter could read it without my worrying! I loved it!

Body Politic; Glyn Godwin has given us a fast action look into the world of politics, power, greed and conscience. Not untill you are deep into the plot does the Prolog stab like a knife into your brain. With the underlying story of the concience or lack of concience of the charaters one wonders just how he would react in the same situation. There must be some ultimate set of rules to live by, some right and wrong values ___ A God that will ultimate make a judgment. I think this book could make a grest movie. It has a little bit of everything, lots of action and an underlying drama and conflict of conscience. I'm looking forward to his next book.

Finally! A book that has it all - mystery, character, challenge, adventure, romance, power and politics, murder, intimidation, faith and a final overcoming resolve to stand for what is right. All this and the excitement of not being able to guess the next move. I am amazed that this is a first time author. Thrilling to read - plus I have been left with the stirring anxiety that this level of stem cell research could possibly be true. Mr. Godwin do you know something we don't? Truth be told, I will not be "left behind" by Griffin Dowell. I plan to read every one in this series!

Glyn's book has brought us back together.,

Glyn and I are first cousins, and therefore, several of his characters have our family names. We had not visted or written each other in many years. Upon finding out about his book from his sister, and purchasing it a few weeks ago, we have been e-mailing each other almost daily. I discovered that his style of writing is unique, and can not be compared with John Grisham's. Glyn's book is not just in a courtroom setting, which can tend to get complicated and boring for the average reader. His having so much knowlege in many fields keeps you thinking, and guessing what next!! I am very proud of my kinfolk, and am looking forward to reading his next novel.

An Indictment of Today's Rapidly Deteriorating Ethics.,

This review is from: Body Politic: A Griffin Dowell Suspense Novel (Paperback)
Dr. Avraham Hegel, a top scientist in stem-cell research and confidante of the president's wife suddenly commits suicide. Amanda Collins, his assistant, is left with a small packet and explicit instructions from her boss, including a letter, a key, and a rubber doll.Griffin Dowell, high-priced attorney to the rich and powerful, known to turn a blind-eye to shady dealings and even encouraged others to do the same, begins to discover things he'd rather not know. Friends and clients have disappeared or turned up dead. And Griffin wants to know why. Stem-cell research opens a new vein in the controversy of medical ethics. As researchers scramble for successful treatment of paralysis, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's disease, one question is paramount: Where will they get the donors? This book answers that question, and more. Greed takes over when ethics are compromised for political and monetary gain. This is an intense read, and not for the squeamish. The two main protagonists each follow a tense, nerve-wracking trail: I found myself unable to put this book down. One page demands you turn to the next. There is no convenient place to stop reading and close the book until the next time. The twists and turns will keep you reading. While not overtly "Christian," the author weaves in a struggle with neglected faith as Griffin Dowell is forced to deal with the reality of today's eroded moral ethics and the consequences of his own apathy. Glyn's dedication in this book: "To the 1.4 million--and counting--innocent lives who were denied the right God gave them to live their life." Enough said? Listed as "A Griffin Dowell Suspense Novel" I am assuming there will be more to come from this author. Personally, I look forward to that.

Body Politic holds all the elements for a satisfying read:strong characters, local settings, suspense, glimpses into the sci-fi world of brain stem cell manipulations, politics, murder, greedy ambition, fast-paced action, and enough twists and turns to surprise the seasoned reader. Several of its characters will come off the page and sit in the reader's lap. I highly recommend this absorbing book. |
