If you follow any form of athletics/sports today, you have probably heard the phrase, "Training and Nutrition are much more scientific today than they were in the past, so that the athletes of today are bigger, stronger and faster...etc." If you ever wondered what they meant by that, as I did, I believe this book will begin to show you what they mean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Explains the Science of diet, and more, March 6, 2007
This review is from: The Body Sculpting Bible for Men, Revised Edition: The Way to Physical Perfection (Paperback)

I found the nutrition and supplement part of this book particularly interesting, because it shows the `science' of eating right. In this section the authors not only do a great job in breaking down the basics, like what are the good fats and bad fats, the good carbs and bad carbs, etc., but they also go into easily understood detail about what the body needs, and when it needs it. There are one or two paragraphs in this section about the post workout meal that they `guaranteed' would help increase your body sculpting results 10-fold, and after a few weeks of using it, I would have to agree that it is making a difference. Again, it's eating the right foods at the right times. They explain how and why.

Their explanation of proper form while exercising really struck home with me as well. Even though I always knew it was important, the reasons were never explained to me as clearly as they were in this book. Again, after reading their in depth descriptions of the various exercises and how to perform them correctly, I have begun seeing and feeling much better results from each of my workouts. Correct form targets and isolates the preferred muscle group in ways that poor form and cheating never do. As an example, I could never get a good `burn' in my chest workouts. After reading their descriptions on the chest exercises, I realized I was using too much of my shoulders in the exercises. They explained how to correct that and now I am getting the burn in my pecs that have avoided me for 20+ years of on again, off again, weight training.

Buy this book, and read it. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Foundation for Success, January 15, 2007
By

This review is from: The Body Sculpting Bible for Men, Revised Edition: The Way to Physical Perfection (Paperback)
Whether you are in search for a program that will deliver great results or just looking for a foundation upon which you can create your own custom strength training program, the Body Sculpting Bible for Men, Revised Edition, is a great tool to help you achieve your fitness goals.

As a fan of the original book, I was pleased with the revisions and additional material included (DVD, FAQs throughout the book, updated workouts, etc). Yet it was great to see that the program is comprised of the same principles that made the plan so successful in the first place. The cornerstone of the program is the 14-day principle, which mixes up the entire routine every 14 days to maximize the body's response. Although I've experimented with different plans over the past few years, the 14-day approach is something that's allowed me to experience great success regardless of the routine.

Other highlights of the program include:

* The Power of the Mind - Many programs talk very little about the role that the mind-body connection plays in driving fantastic results, yet this is emphasized throughout the book with many practical tips to help you harness this power
* Comprehensiveness - The book touches on virtually every aspect of fitness and body sculpting...from exercises, to nutrition, to rest & recovery, and beyond
* Intensity - Supersetting and giantsetting techniques are used to provide a significant challenge, in contrast to more traditional, pyramid-based approaches
* Sincerity - Throughout the book and the DVD, the sincerity of the authors and their genuine desire to help readers achieve their goals is quite apparent; it makes it easier to follow a program when you feel the authors have the readers' best interests in mind

I will admit, I feel the book could have been even stronger with more extensive discussion of aerobic exercise, the inclusion of recent holistic approaches (core training, yoga, etc), and perhaps an even greater "facelift" from the original edition (color, font choices, layout). Yet these are minor issues in what is overall a very solid book.

In the end, this book is a great tool to help you achieve a new body. If you are willing to supply the determination and the action, the Body Sculpting Bible for Men will undoubtedly help you produce the results. I definitely recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some points, June 22, 2007

I just have to say a thing or two about the two-star review near the top of this page: the guy says that the authors devote an entire chapter insisting on hair removal and tanning beds. What he's talking about is a three-page appendix near the back of the book that makes a few suggestions to guys who are curious about how to go about it - it is NOT a lengthy ultimatum.

Also, the book is not devoted to sports training, it is about training to look good. If you're looking to condition your body to play a certain sport, of course there are better books out there.

That being said, if you want to look good with your shirt off, this book is excellent. The authors are sincere in their desire to help you. The book is very cheap compared to other fitness products, they don't ask that you spend lots of money on equipment or subscribe to any club, and they don't plug any particular products - they just tell you what's out there, what's junk and what worked for them. The advice is simple but effective - stop eating trash food, work out, and develop a good mental attitude. What they help provide for your 15 bucks is the motivation. If you want it, this book will give it to you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, BUT..., July 16, 2008

First, the good: The information is well laid out, and it provides a comprehensive overview of fitness, including weight training and cardiovascular exercise. Everything I've read seems to agree with popular knowledge these days of how-to.

The not-so-good: It's written (in my opinion) on an eighth-grade level. I understand trying to appeal to a mass audience, but I appreciate instruction that doesn't patronize me. The typos and grammar really need work, but I can generally overlook that.

The 14-day body sculpting workout calls for chest presses and tricep extensions the first day and shoulder presses the second day. Wouldn't shoulder presses done the day after chest and triceps exercises overwork the triceps? Probably a minor point, but I'd have like to seen that addressed.

The bad: What bothers me are the references to websites that imply some kind of support, whether in the form of media, discussion groups or email--when in fact it's all about selling you more stuff.

[...] and [...] are the same site. The links that aren't broken ALL redirect to a shopping site, getfitnow.stores.yahoo.net with the default page of the Top 20 Most Popular Items.

[...] redirects to hugorivera.net, a site that's short on substance. It apparently hasn't been updated since March/April 2008. However, click on any purchase link and you're redirected to [...], another sales site.

So any fresh News and Tips, any Discussion Groups, those seem to have disappeared. But by god, those sales pages are chugging along!

At least these guys could have kept the web references current and active, or not have put them in the book in the first place. Oh well.

I still recommend the book with accompanying DVD. There is a lot of useful information inside; just overlook the fact it's not written toward us older guys in our 40s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Already fit, needed to tone, December 15, 2009
This review is from: The Body Sculpting Bible for Men, Revised Edition: The Way to Physical Perfection (Paperback)
I have been working out for about 2 years now. I have always known which exercises to do and when i went into the gym at first (first year or so) I was getting large gains, becoming very strong very fast, and then lately i have just sort of fallen into the run of the mill exercising. Its like i go and turn into a zombie and just do the same exercises over and over again without getting any noticeable change. I saw this book while looking for a Christmas present for my mother. I got the book and instantly started reading it. None of the exercises were new but they went into such great detail about how you need to think about the muscle you work and have perfect form so, i thought i should give it a try. My diet is very good currently, but the nutrition section really brought carbs, fats, and proteins to life. Explaining how each one will affect your body in different ways. How some things are good to eat in the morning, and some things are good for post workout.

Yesterday (monday) i went into the gym with my book and followed the body shaping workout routine as if i had never been in a gym before. By following the guidelines and the description of each workout i noticed that i felt a much better burn, was using less weight, and worked out for less time (45min). For the first time i had some pretty soar arms, chest, and back muscles and it felt great! There was some guy in the gym curling 80lbs in each hand and i sort of laughed because his form was atrocious, he was rather strong but his technique looked like he was working out more of his back and shoulders than his biceps. I like sticking to good form and technique it does give you a harder burn (personally).

I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to have a set routine. There are 18 weeks of workout guidelines for the body sculpting routine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, January 11, 2009

This review is from: The Body Sculpting Bible for Men, Revised Edition: The Way to Physical Perfection (Paperback)
I've been working out for about 2 years. I was doing the same routine in the gym week in and week out.

I only learned by watching others and asking other people that work out questions. I've researched body building sites, but the info was limited.

As soon as I started following the advice in this book i saw immediate, immediate progress. It not only instructs you very clearly on a variety of proper exercises and form, but also gives key information on diet and believe it or not the mental aspect of working out.

I have seen and read other books on similar subject matter, but none broke it down quite as simply and honestly, and Completely as this one.

It was introduced to me by a recent friend who is a personal trainer, who said that this book is comparable (and even beyond that) to the information provided in his certification for training. But obviously not as technical.

The information in this book is honest, accurate, and effective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-structured Program, July 31, 2007
This review is from: The Body Sculpting Bible for Men, Revised Edition: The Way to Physical Perfection (Paperback)
This book covers virtually every aspect of body sculpting and includes well-designed programs for every level of conditioning, from raw beginner to advanced. Chapters include motivational information and the proper rep technique for maximum muscle stimulation. A comprehensive discussion of nutrition is followed by detailed sample diets and a complete, no-nonsense review of muscle building and testosterone enhancing supplements. Training chapters are organized by body part, with each exercise clearly illustrated in both text and photography. The bonus DVD leaves no doubt as to the proper form for each exercise. The training programs are set out thoroughly by day of the week and leave no room for error. Training programs are set available according to the type of equipment available and the trainee's level of conditioning. The overall quality of the text is excellent, with clear photography and well-written text devoid of typos. This program is perfectly suited to those who prefer to train at home, since it includes several intense, full-body conditioning programs that require no more equipment than a set of adjustable weight dumbbells and, ideally, an incline bench. As a lifelong fitness enthusiast, I learned several things I never knew, such as the ideal time of day to work out for maximum fat burning. If you have any interest in body sculpting at all, this book is well worth its modest cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, December 12, 2009
This review is from: The Body Sculpting Bible for Men, Revised Edition: The Way to Physical Perfection (Paperback)
I am a not a bodybuilder or athlete. I have never been a fitness buff. I don't just love to work out. I work in an office all day and have noticed my energy and strength levels decrease over the years. This book has been great for me.
What I like about this book is that it is for regular people who don't have two hours a day to work out. I have been using the book for 12 weeks and it works great. I have lost 3 inches in my waist and gained a good bit of muscle, while working out less than an hour per day.
This book lays out the main three areas you should be concerned with in getting in shape: exercise, nutrition, and rest. Pretty simple. The exercise routines are laid-out in a format easy to be understood. You can make copies of the charts and take with you to the gym to track your progress. The nutrition guidelines are easy to follow and the food on the lists are easy to obtain. I have cheated some on nutrition and don't always get enough sleep, but have seen positive gains in muscle and loss in fat over the past three months.
I believe that one of the main hindrances to people getting in good shape is confusion. With all the books, supplements, videos, etc., people give up before they start because they think it is too complex and time-demanding. If you are a regular person and want to be in better shape, I encourage you to get the book.

I have been out of the gym about 10 years now and decided to go back and "try" to get back to where I once was. I saw this book and thought that maybe in the time I have been away from the gym maybe the workouts had changed some, so I decided to buy it. I read it from cover to cover and was shocked at how many things I was doing wrong when I was seriously working out years ago. I was getting good results, but I wonder if I had known what I know now, how much better shape could I have gotten in? The book is very informative and covers about any topic that might arise. I would rate this book as high as any workout book out there, the DVD that comes with it is very helpful as well if you are unfamiliar with some of the exercises. I hope this gets me back to the shape or even better than I was in years ago. From first impressions it certainly will if I follow their teachings.

This book is a must have if you're really trying to get into shape. The detailed exercise descriptions help even more than I thought they would. The workout plan's are fantastic and I follow them regularly. The nutrition section was informative but the diet plans given seem a little excessive. If you are truly trying see dramatic results in the shortest amount of time, they might work, but i couldn't see using them forever. I would recommend this book to anyone that is serious about weight training, whether rookie or veteran.
