Awesome workout,

If you are looking to learn about kettlebells and what they can do for you - this is the book.
I have been watching people working out with kettlebells at my gym in nyc and was wondering what they were all about. Someone mentioned that Lorna Kleidman was an International World Champion and that she was coming out with a book. I ordered the book and a kettlebell last week and received my copy of the book yesterday. It is fantastic. It clearly explains what a kettlebell is and what it can do for me. I tried my first workout today and it is everything Lorna claims it is. I couldn't believe how much my heart rate increased. It was like doing my regular cardio workout while getting the benefits of strength and endurance training at the same time. As a mother with a 1 year old baby, I have been busy juggling motherhood, work and pleasure, while at the same time trying to get to the gym so I can get back into the wonderful shape I use to be in. I can already see where this will not only help me get back in shape and help me regain the energy I need to to get through my day, but will also help me in many of my daily activities with my baby. I felt the workout through my entire core, butt, legs and arms. It was great and really time efficient. My husband plans on getting a heavier bell and working out with me so we can learn the proper movements together. Will keep you posted as we work our way through the myriad of drills.

Like having your own personal trainer,

Buying this book: Lorna Kleidman's Body Sculpting with Kettle Bells: was simply the best thing I have ever done. My friend Jo introduced me to kettlebells and she took me through a work out session and I loved it straight away. I started on using kettle bells 3 times a week but with no real direction but did feel small changes in my shape.
I have always had to worry about my weight and staying a UK size 12 took effort. During my pregnancy I ate anything and everything in sight as I saw it as a right of passage (silly girl). For months after my sons birth I did nothing and just hoped the weight would fall off....magically. For months I have been feeling down and feeling totally useless as I just could not shift the weight. Jo calls me one day and tells me about Lorna Kleidman's Body Sculpting with Kettle Bells book and that I just have to get it......well as I said before: that was one of the best things I have ever done. I have just completed the silver program and I can't actually believe that this is my body. My core has never been this strong and my thighs.....wow they are like rocks. So many people have noticed the difference in me and I feel fantastic. I am so excited about the change in my shape and the weight is now coming off. My arms have never looked this good. I just can't believe more people don't know about this book (something which I intend to change). I feel in control of my life again and feel like I have more energy. I have never looked forward to a workout but now I get so excited. The book is so well structured and helps you understand technique which is critical for results. It is serious like having a personal trainer!!!! Get this book and try it........it's fantastic!!!! Sinead Bright

I'm relatively new to kettlebells, maybe 2 weeks in. I purchased a GoFit brand that came with a short introductory video, and was hooked! I've always been a lazy person who hated exercise, and kettlebells are something I look forward to. I searched around for a week or so, debating about buying a workout DVD or deciding between a few books, and after reading many reviews I decided on this one, plus you can't beat $10 for a book! I was not disappointed. It has a great introduction to how she got started and the benefits she gets, plus a brief story on the history kettlebells. Then great illustrations of many kettlebell exercises, and 3 different workout plans so you can progress to something more challenging as you get more fit. Very clear and concise. I'm very pleased I picked this book. It's amazing how much your heart rate goes up with just a few swings of the kettlebells, what a great workout!

This is an excellent book for kettlebell users of all levels and abilities. I had worked with a personal trainer earlier this year and he does resistance training and kettlebells only. Phenomenal workout! You get both muscle training and cardio in one compact workout. In addition to 18 weeks of workouts, you get common sense information about nutrition and a little bit of background about kettlebells. Easy to read and understand illustrations of all exercises. Great warm up and warm down stretches, which I do on the "off" days. I highly recommend this to anyone!

I've been working on my kettlebell program through using this Body Sculpting book for about 8 weeks now. I'm beginning the gold program. The Silver program results were amazing. Not only do I stand straighter, I look leaner, and I feel stronger.
I've always wanted to be a runner, but never was able to get my endurance up enough. My goal has always been to run a marathon when I'm 40, which I'll be turning that this year. Not only do my friends tell my now they can notice changes each time they see me, I set up to run this AM. I was able to run 3 miles, without any problems. I wasn't winded or tired, and I had no aches or pains. The benefits of kettlebell are real, I would have never done this without this book and program. I'm educating everyone I know on the kettlebell and buying my friends this book for their fitness libraries.

An illustrated gem,
This review is from: Body Sculpting with Kettlebells for Women: Over 50 Total Body Exercises (Body Sculpting Bible) (Paperback)
This well-written book is all you need to get rid of that muffin-top and back into that little black dress. The trouble with most kettle bell instruction is that the available books and videos are either cutesy, or they tend to be long on testosterone and machismo and short on planned out, solid, safe workout practices. This book is absolutely full of illustrations that clearly show proper form, and Ms. Kleidman's text is clear and informative. If you want to try a kettle bell workout routine, but don't know how or where to start; start here. This is an excellent fitness book that really works.

I have been working out with kbells since Jan 2009. I began with a great dvd by Lauren Brooks. She is also a certified Russian Kettlebell specialist. After using her Ultimate Body Sculpting dvds (1 & 2), I felt like I was a fairly experienced kettlebell enthusiaste. (By the way, I was an avid fan of dumbbell workouts but I have quit my dumbbells since picking up a kettlebell. Kbells are a much better method.) Anyway, I was looking for a book to compare training notes/methods against Ms. Brooks'. I was skeptical that Ms. Kleidman's book could supply workouts equal to the ones on my dvds. I have to say I am very pleasantly surprised and impressed. The workouts are intense if you are using a heavy enough bell and they are clear, concise and easy/fun circuits to follow. They provide a great workout and are a great supplement to my dvds. I was also surprised to find there are four programs and they aren't repetitious!
My only gripe is that I learned to workout barefoot and the book recommends using shoes. I am used to working out barefoot now and so I am not sure I agree with the author's advice on that point. In all, however, I highly recommend this book.

I'm a two-time Ironman finisher who had kettlebells for about a year but never really used them until I purchased this book.
This first part does a nice job of showing each exercise in a step-by-step manner. The second part provides three 6-week work out programs that progress in difficulty. I went through the "silver" prgoram twice and have now advanced onto the "gold." The workouts themselves are simple to follow and very effective. They generally incorporate 3 sets of 5 or six kettlebell exercises and them some additional core/ab work. I found my heart rate increasing with each workout and then expreriencing the "good sore" feeling the morning after. The exercises and muscle groups utilized are frequently changed up, which prevents boredom for both the mind and muscles. Overall, this is one of the best (and most useful) strength books I've come across.

I've worked with kettlebells a few times previously, and was looking for a way to get the workout without paying a personal trainer 4 times a week. This is perfect. It walks you through each workout (what to do, how many reps, pictures of how to do each move) for six weeks, four times a week. There are also three levels to choose from, so you can graduate to the higher levels once you've mastered the easier ones. As a busy mom, I also appreciate that one of the four weekly workouts (the "Saturday" workout) is super short (20 minutes). Squeezing in that one extra workout on the weekend is making a big difference! I've only had the book a couple of weeks, but I'm already seeing results. If you are looking for a kettlebell workout, or just a total body workout, I would definitely recommend this book.

I started training with kettlebells a few months ago but was looking for a book that contained specific workouts. This book is perfect! The explanations of the exercises are very concise and the accompanying pictures are very helpful. It contains 3 6-week programs that start with the basics and gradually get more difficult.
I am in Week 3 of the final program. I am so sad that I am almost finished with this book! It has made working out fun again and is the best total body workout I have ever had. I rarely do any cardio anymore because KBing is a strength and cardio workout combined! Believe me, you will know you have worked out when you follow the programs in this book! I will be 50 years old in a month. When I was working out with my KBs at the gym last week, I was approached by a much younger woman who asked if I was an instructor. I told her no and she said "you are in such good shape, I thought you were an instructor. You make it look effortless!" I am in the best shape of my life and best of all, I look forward to working out again! I understand Lorna is releasing a DVD this summer. I will be among the first to buy it! In the meantime, if you are looking for a great instructional manual on kettlebelling, this is the book for you! |
