Bomb Those Biceps!,
By
This review is from: Body Solid BB23 Bicep Bomber (Sports)
Anyone who has picked up a barbell and proceeded to do curls will immediately notice it's hard to keep their elbows still. Three things happen as you attempt to get the barbell to your shoulder: 1) your biceps contracts to bend your elbow, 2) your lats kick in to pull your elbows back which helps get the weight closer to your shoulders, and 3) your back muscles contract to sway you backwards which helps you "heft" the weight up.
Problem is, we're doing the curl to build up the biceps, not the lats and back muscles. You can eliminate the trunk swaying by leaning back against something like a wall, but there's still the problem of keeping the elbows from being pulled backwards by the lats. Enter the Body Solid BB23 Bicep Bomber Workout Equipment. It's an ingenious device which prevents the elbows from moving backwards and takes the lats out of the equation- which in turn forces just your biceps to do all the work. The device is simple to use and as soon as you try it, you'll immediately feel the difference. The short analysis? The Biceps Bomber works because it isolates the biceps! It works,

This is a cheap and easy way to get preacher like isolation on your biceps. You really can feel it when you're towards the end of a set, when that final rep takes 10 seconds going up because your muscles are so fatigued. I have never been able to get there without a preacher bench until now. This results in really strong DOMs and you know you've really worked the muscle.
Assuming you even have room for a unitasking piece of equipment, you could buy your own preacher bench for $200 or whatever, or this for $30. An excellent alternative. My only complaint is I think the arm padding could be a little thicker. On downward motions when I'm going slow my tricep gets engaged and the metal digs into it. It is also a little hard to find the right position for it, as far as how to adjust the strap so your arms rest on it appropriately, I had to tinker and guess because it comes with no instructions as such. It seems just above your elbow is the best spot, on the elbow itself did not work well, and well as placing it higher up the arm.

Preacher curls without the bench!,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Body Solid BB23 Bicep Bomber (Sports)
Ok, I'll admit it, I have pretty terrible curl form - mainly because I'm more into strength training where cheat curls are a tad more acceptable. Or maybe, I just have bad curl form because of my own bad habits. Because of that, I try to throw in preacher curls when I'm at the gym. Problem is I'm more of a home gym guy and don't have a preacher curl bench, nor do I want one. It takes up so much space. So, I saw this at $30 and figured what the heck, worst case I'm out $30.
When I got it, I couldn't wait to try it and do a few sets. Wow, it works great. It's basically the same as a preacher bench but without requiring the added room in your garage. Also, like Arnold says in his encyclopedia, it does a great job working the lower bicep, which I have deficiencies. Just make sure to put a lot less weight on it. Getting the strap to the right length takes a little bit of time but it's worth it. Look at the picture in Arnold's The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding : The Bible of Bodybuilding, Fully Updated and Revised if you need a hand checking where it should be on you. I needed a visual pointer myself. Really cool device, well made and built to last. Highly recommended if you have bad curl form or want preacher curls sans the bench.
