5.0 out of 5 stars Bomb Those Biceps!
Anyone who has picked up a barbell and proceeded to do curls will immediately notice it's hard to keep their elbows still. Three things happen as you attempt to get the barbell to your shoulder: 1) your biceps contracts to bend your elbow, 2) your lats kick in to pull your elbows back which helps get the weight closer to your shoulders, and 3) your back muscles contract...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bomb Those Biceps!, January 7, 2011
This review is from: Body Solid BB23 Bicep Bomber (Sports)
Anyone who has picked up a barbell and proceeded to do curls will immediately notice it's hard to keep their elbows still. Three things happen as you attempt to get the barbell to your shoulder: 1) your biceps contracts to bend your elbow, 2) your lats kick in to pull your elbows back which helps get the weight closer to your shoulders, and 3) your back muscles contract to sway you backwards which helps you "heft" the weight up.

Problem is, we're doing the curl to build up the biceps, not the lats and back muscles. You can eliminate the trunk swaying by leaning back against something like a wall, but there's still the problem of keeping the elbows from being pulled backwards by the lats.

Enter the Body Solid BB23 Bicep Bomber Workout Equipment. It's an ingenious device which prevents the elbows from moving backwards and takes the lats out of the equation- which in turn forces just your biceps to do all the work. The device is simple to use and as soon as you try it, you'll immediately feel the difference.

The short analysis? The Biceps Bomber works because it isolates the biceps! Also suggest Smokin' Hot Guns!!: How an Average Guy Can Get Big, Muscular Arms In One Workout A Week in your pursuit of bigger arms.

4.0 out of 5 stars It works, January 3, 2011

This is a cheap and easy way to get preacher like isolation on your biceps. You really can feel it when you're towards the end of a set, when that final rep takes 10 seconds going up because your muscles are so fatigued. I have never been able to get there without a preacher bench until now. This results in really strong DOMs and you know you've really worked the muscle.

Assuming you even have room for a unitasking piece of equipment, you could buy your own preacher bench for $200 or whatever, or this for $30. An excellent alternative.

My only complaint is I think the arm padding could be a little thicker. On downward motions when I'm going slow my tricep gets engaged and the metal digs into it. It is also a little hard to find the right position for it, as far as how to adjust the strap so your arms rest on it appropriately, I had to tinker and guess because it comes with no instructions as such. It seems just above your elbow is the best spot, on the elbow itself did not work well, and well as placing it higher up the arm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Preacher curls without the bench!, March 27, 2010

This review is from: Body Solid BB23 Bicep Bomber (Sports)
Ok, I'll admit it, I have pretty terrible curl form - mainly because I'm more into strength training where cheat curls are a tad more acceptable. Or maybe, I just have bad curl form because of my own bad habits. Because of that, I try to throw in preacher curls when I'm at the gym. Problem is I'm more of a home gym guy and don't have a preacher curl bench, nor do I want one. It takes up so much space. So, I saw this at $30 and figured what the heck, worst case I'm out $30.

When I got it, I couldn't wait to try it and do a few sets. Wow, it works great. It's basically the same as a preacher bench but without requiring the added room in your garage. Also, like Arnold says in his encyclopedia, it does a great job working the lower bicep, which I have deficiencies. Just make sure to put a lot less weight on it.

Getting the strap to the right length takes a little bit of time but it's worth it. Look at the picture in Arnold's The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding : The Bible of Bodybuilding, Fully Updated and Revised if you need a hand checking where it should be on you. I needed a visual pointer myself.

Really cool device, well made and built to last. Highly recommended if you have bad curl form or want preacher curls sans the bench.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, June 22, 2008
This review is from: Body Solid BB23 Bicep Bomber (Sports)
Great tool for isolating biceps, when you first use it only do about half of your normal curl weight, or you will be very sore the next day; also mind keeping your back straight, some people tend to lean forward when using this, which is wrong. You will feel the difference in your arms with this after the first day. Product is solid and will last a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to isolate your biceps, April 3, 2011

This review is from: Body Solid BB23 Bicep Bomber (Sports)
I usually stay away from these types of things, because they are usually gimmicky pos that don't do anything at all..ie the shake weight..I mean really? Not the case here this truly does what it's supposed too and that is to isolate biceps when your curling. I've been lifting since my teens and at thirty years old I think I know a thing or two about lifting. So take my work for it this works as advertised. That being said, it is just one small component of a good workout program. If your not a regular lifter don't buy this unless your planning on becoming a regular lifter with a full body routine, working all your muscles not just your biceps. It you dint lift and your thinking I just want big guns for the summer that's all...DON'T DO IT! Working out just your biceps without a well rounded program will make you look terrible. You will have big arms, tiny little shoulder, no chest no triceps, no traps..it will look plain terrible and I promise you will be embarrassed about the way you look with terribly misshapen muscles. If your serious about lifting you need to work everything, and consistently with proper nutrition and a program that allows for proper rest. For those that lift and know what your doing, this is a good addition to your current workout. Would I say it completely eliminates the need to do preacher curls..maybe that's up to you, and how your arms feel after using this for a while. You know your body, you'll eventually figure it out with some trial and error. I'd say this is also a decent way to change thngs up if you've hit a wall with your biceps and havnt been able to get new growth, this might be the thing to wake your bi's up and overcome that, sometimes when we hit those walls and it seems like nothing will work to get new growth in a certain muscle a small change like this will do the trick. I know how frustrating it is when you hit those walls. So yup five stars for the bicep bomber, no real complaints..it seems like the quality is decent, the foam support on the back of the neck is a bit thin..well no it's really thin..but were talking about lifting weights and lifting hard..if you can feel the padding is too thin your not lifting hard enough and you need to cowboy up..hope this helps, I know I tend to be a bit long winded but I know I appreciate a well rounded review before I buy something.

4.0 out of 5 stars Provides a great bicep workout..., June 22, 2011

This review is from: Body Solid BB23 Bicep Bomber (Sports)
The Body Solid Bicep Bomber is great for what it's meant for - focusing on your biceps. Before I started using this I could lift a lot more weight but that was because I had poor form and was thrusting the weight up with my whole body. This little contraption helps your form and helps you concentrate on working only your biceps. I had to take a couple plates off my barbell the first time because I was so pumped. A couple minor issues though:

1. It might be a little overpriced for what it is.
2. The straps are thin and of poor quality. I'm afraid they won't last too long but we'll see. And the little neck pad is practically useless.
3. I like to workout without a shirt and so when I first use this thing the metal is cold to the touch. They should have added some padding on the inside to make it a little more comfortable.

These are minor issues. The benefits you get from working out with the Bicep Bomber outweigh any negative issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing job of correcting form, October 27, 2008

This thing will not only make sure you have correct form, but it also really focuses in on the biceps better then a preacher bench. I am really impressed. The only down sides I can see is you must make sure you have the neck strap set to the right length. You're going to want to set it a little short at first.

Nothing fancy, just works. Excellent for people who work out at home; this way you don't need to buy a preacher curl bench/attachment. Also, I really love it for hammer curls using a tricep bar.Regular 34" Tricep Solid Bar

Does exactly what its supposed to do, isolate the biceps. You really notice the difference in the last few reps. It doesn't allow you to get sloppy so you can focus on just trying to get the weight up.
