5.0 out of 5 stars very well made, October 20, 2007
The sticker on the bottom of this thing says "American Designed - and very well made in China". Well, they ain't kidding. This is one hell of a nice piece of equipment.
For starters, the shipping weight is 42 lbs. This thing is built like a truck. They use heavy steel box-sections for the frame, and the bolt flanges are welded all the way around, not just tacked. The bolts are beautifully plated, and they use nylon-collar lock nuts rather than a pile of split washers.
In case you are wondering from looking at the photo, yes, this thing is tall. The bars are at 53" off the floor. For me, its great since I'm 6'3". However, there is also a cross bar at just the right height to use as a step when mounting. They include strips of no-slip tape to put on it, which is great.
Another thing I was trying to figure out from the photo was how wide the grips are spaced. If your wondering, they have a center-to-center spacing of 21" at the front, and taper outward to 23.5" at the widest possible grip position. The bars themselves are nice and fat at 1.5" in diameter with tough rubber grips. This thing could definitely survive in a gym environment.
The plastic end-caps on the feet are very well made, but are really for carpet. If you have wood floors like me, you will want to put a pad under them. I plan to just buy some adhesive rubber bumpers from the hardware store.
The company apparently does not make a chin up attachment for this unit, which is a shame since the base is definitely stable enough to support one. I plan to bolt extensions on to the vertical members and attach one. I was planning to do this all along, which is the main reason I bought this instead of a lighter model. Call me obsessive, but I really wanted a dip station with full length bars, and all the combo dip/chin stations I saw had only little stub handles for the dip.
Assembly involves tightening just eight bolts. You will need a couple of 3/4" wrenches, or an adjustable wrench and a pair of pliers.
They also include a bottle of touch-up paint. If you're wondering, the paint color is sort of a dull metalic silver-gray.
Overall, these guys clearly take pride in their work. Its very well made with great attention to detail, and even though it's more expensive that some others here, I think its a bargain for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Dip Station, June 20, 2009

This review is from: Body Solid GDIP59 Dip Station (Sports)
This is such a great dip station. According to the manufacturer, it can hold up to 500lbs. So if you want to do weighted dips, pile on the weight and don't worry.

Most dip stations of this quality sell for over $500. I weigh about 250lbs and regularly add 100lbs+ when I do dips, and this station doesn't even seem to notice.

I put this dip station in the little gym at work, and everyone uses it. It's a great addition to any home gym.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent piece of fitness equipment, August 8, 2010

I had previously purchased a chin up/dip stand combination from a local fitness store. I found the stand wobbly and worse, the frame was too wide to comfortably do dips on, causing a great deal of stress (the bad kind) on my shoulders. The Body Solid Dip Station, on the other hand, is rock solid. It requires minimal assembly that is so self-evident you don't need instructions (requires about ten minutes). The stand is extremely stable, the grips very comfortable, and the taper in the grip bars allows you to vary the width of your exercise to target either triceps (narrow) or chest (wide). It is also a good-looking piece of equipment. I love dips, and I love this stand. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Dip Station, May 19, 2011

I ordered this product online and received it in less than 5 days. It is heavy and very well contructed. Assembly required about 20 minutes to complete myself with 2 adjustable wrenches. The black and white exploded diagram is sufficient and it is straightforward. The station is designed to have an outward flaring direction for the handles which is widest toward the back. This allows adjustment of grip to accomodate pectoral emphasis with wide grip or tricep emphasis with a narrow grip. The handles are covered with a dense foam rubber which makes the grip comfortable, unlike some bare metal or knurled surfaces which can potentially tear skin when using additional weight. The welding is complete and well finished, with no rough edges or burrs. The device is reported to accomodate up to 500 pounds, and this claim is believable given the rugged contstruction. The station does not rock or buckle, even when doing rapid repetitions with added weight. It is a commercial gym quality piece at a fairly reasonable price. I definitely would purchase again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Body Solid Dip Station, March 8, 2011

I added this piece of equipment to a home gym recently and was very happy with the price. Refurbished item at $150 delivered free was too good a deal not to go for. Even though it was a refurb, there wasn't as much as a blemish on it. Assembly was 10 minutes and required only 2 sockets and a ratchet (or 2 adjustable wrenches). Having tried many similar stands in the past that were unstable, I was very surprised how stable this was and the material quality is what you'd expect from Body Solid.

Very happy with this purchase.

Another well-built product by Body-Solid. Gym-quality and I don't have a bad thing to say about it. This was a favorite piece of equipment at the gym and now I don't have to share anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding value on a great piece of gym equipment, November 1, 2011

This review is from: Body Solid GDIP59 Dip Station (Sports)
I looked at a ton of dip stations before buying the Body Solid, including designs to make my own. I bought this model based on simplicity, price and the reviews I read beforehand. The decision proved to be solid on all points. It took maybe 20 minutes to assemble, works perfectly and it's exactly what I wanted in a dip station. The station is nearly a commercial-grade product; it's that heavy duty. I've had users up to 250 lbs work out on it and it remains rock solid and stable. You couldn't build a better station yourself for less than what this sells for and this is up and ready to use 20 minutes after arriving. If you're looking for a dependable, solid, simple dip station, this is most definitely the product you want.

Easy to assemble, solid construction, very good price. I had considered getting a dip station for a while, but the ones I looked at seemed either too flimsy, or if more solid looking, overpriced, so I shelved the idea of buying a dip stand. But then started to look online again and came across the Body Solid dip stand that is a great buy, and it was delivered soon after the order!
