This is a great bench for working out at home. The gap that others have mentioned in their reviews is something that most incline/decline type benches have. As you raise the surface to incline the bench, the gap lessens until it disappears when you have the bench inclined all the way. When using the bench in the flat position, a rolled up towel works fine to fill in the gap if it bothers you. The construction is superb. This bench will last me my lifetime. I had absolutely no problem figuring out how to put the parts together with just the "expanded parts" view to follow. I recommend this bench to anyone who wants a high quality, sturdy workout bench.

The packaging could be a bit better. When received, the box had holes in many places and many parts insides had come loose and scattered inside. Upon inspection though, most of the pieces survived intact except a knob which was found broken. Wrote an email to file a complaint and received the replacement part a week later. Not bad. It would be better to get a response after the email instead of dead silence. I was left wondering if anything at all would happen.
Secondly, the assembly instruction could be a bit better. The one that came with the package is almost useless. The one that you can down load from the BodySolid. com website was way better, but still there is room for improvement. Think Ikea. All in all, after everything is put together finally, the result is a nice, solidly built machine, which seems it can last forever.

I purchased this gift for my husband who absolutely loves this bench. For those of you who are on the level he is which is benching 300+ and consistent heavy dumbbell exercises, this bench will certainly benefit you. The foot rest attachment for abs are not manditory for the bench to be sturdy. He doesn't use them. He leaves it unattached but I will for abs. Very sturdy bench.

This bench will need you to be a bit handy because it has some small pieces (they come in helpful packaging where each screw, washer, etc. has it's size and name next to it). It can be put together in less than an hour if you're handy.

Its a nice looking bench as well as being a heavy duty one. This is our 3rd product by Body Solid and we are very satisfied.

Review written on behalf of my very happy husband!

Received the item on time with some of the parts(Lock Nuts, Washers)missing. After emailed & called their customer service the missing parts were provided. However, it took multiply follow ups and over one and a half week to receive the missing parts. Other than missing parts, i am satisfy with the product. It is a heavy duty bench that will last for life time. The installation is not as hard as it seems as long as you lay out all of the parts in order and follow the diagram carefully, it's not hard to install. Due to the delay in providing the missing parts i'm giving it a 4 star rating.

I am a personal trainer and I really like the stability of this bench. It is very helpful to me as a great training tool. The only thing I don't particularly care for is the gap between the seat and the back of the bench. If it were a little smaller, it would be much more comfortable to me and to my clients as well. Other than that, I would highly recommend this bench.

Build quality is great, it is very sturdy and heavy. One thing that I do not like about the design is the 5" gap between the benches. I have used other incline benches where the gap was much smaller. I would give this a 5 but the assembly instructions were terrible. First there were no instructions, just an exploded view of the assembled bench. Next, the exploded view and index of parts called out the hardware in Inch measurements but the hardware was packaged and labeled with metric measurements. Lastly, the instructions did not match the pieces that were included (there were more pieces than shown in the picture) so I had to take two sections of the bench apart after I was done to install pieces that I had left off. Overall, it was not that hard to assemble but it could have been much easier if the manufacturer had spent a little more time making some instructions that matched the hardware. I still think that this is the best bench available for the money.

I first came across body-solid when I body-build in California. This same bench was found in San Diego gyms I trained at for years. There are basically two benches you can choose if you would like the 460SP leverage gym, the GFID71 and the RSFID46.

The FID46 is 2-3 higher off the ground so people with medium to shorter stature may have trouble placing feet firmly on the ground when do flies or flat bench. The FID46 also has a pin to move the angle of bench.

The FID71 is about 20-22 inches off the ground so feet can firmly be placed for most people. I am 5'6" and have no problems. The bench is heavy, very heavy and premium grade steel. The only issue I had was during set up we put the wrong screws in seat and stripped them. Body-Solid is so fine of an organization, they sent me out a new seat (even though it was my fault). The cushion is soft to the back and rear. Sometimes sweat stains remain on material in terms of oil imprint that I can't seem to remove even with Lysol. Overall, I am very pleased with the ease of changing levels for bench and more pleased to support such a fine organization. Keep in my this is commercial grade equipment and heavy. Very heavy.

One last note, my bench came well packaged in pristine condition. There were no moving parts or bolts in the box and the bench per se was unscratched. The back pad and seat pad holes lined up perfectly. Just make sure the longer bolts go into the back pad and the shorter bolts go into seat pad. If you follow the instructions, it looks like the longer bolts go into the seat, at least to me it did in the diagram.
