This book gave me a different review of human/demon interaction. It was like it took old age 'possession' and mixed it with a modern day life. In this book, Jamie Loek, makes her demons the kind that can possess people.

Kate is a teenager who moves to a small seaside town with her parents after they get a new job. On one of the first days she's there she meets Rico and Adriana and is thrown into a world where any moment she could lose her body and soul to a demon who would kill her when he gave it up.

I have to admit that when I first started reading this book, I had to wonder if I was going to finish it. The writing just seemed...awkward and didn't flow as well as I thought it should have. The story line was alright though, and I wanted to find out more about what was going to happen. I think what kept me going was that it did seem to improve as I continued on. I won't say it was the most brilliant writing I have ever seen because, if I did, I'd be lying.

The characters were okay. Kate suffered from her mother never really having anything to do with her. Added to that was the fact that her mother was in denial over her actions as well. Donovan was the best character in the book, I think, although Adriana was a close second. I thought Donovan struggled the most with what he was. What he did at the end of the book was unexpected, but it was the part I loved most about the book.

Kate and Rico didn't stand out in the book for me. There was a lot more that could have been done with those characters to make me connect more with them. Their back story could have been developed better. I only got glimpses into their past lives. I was told that Rico and the others had done terrible things, but I didn't feel like they had.

Poor Kate she has move a lot due to mothers job but she has both parents who love her so much although her mother does not show it much. Her first morning in their new place she meets Rico who just makes her angry and under her skin just by talking to him for a few minutes. Later that night Kate is walking on the beach and was almost taken, the next night the guy that tried taking her is by her house and enter Rico again to save the day only to have to tell Kate that the guy is a demon and changing her life forever. Read the book to see how Kate does with the demons after her and to see if Rico will be her first love. Must read book cannot wait to check out the rest of the series.

If you know anything about me from reading this site, following me on Twitter or Facebook, you know that I have a slight obsession with fictional boys and book series. In Body and Soul, Jaime Loeak has rocked my world with both!

Best Part of the book: I am going to start with Kate. She moves around a lot because her mother is a marine biologist and her father is a lawyer. This story is set in Florida, a small beach town, and it is here that we meet Rico (ok I had to talk about the boy). Rico is not just some boy and his friend, Adriana, is not just some girl. Kate begins to have these "dreams" and is not sure what is happening to her. Well, there is more to the world that what the human eye can see. Rico and Adriana try to help her understand the "situation" between the Light and Darkness; but it is up to Kate to choose what is best for her Body and Soul. This is one reason why I love Rico, because he wants to protect Kate at any cost. However, the question: can he do it?

Not so great about book: Here are the 2 problems wrong with this book (and they are HUGE problems). The first is, I was not warned that I would be crying my eyes out at the end. Talk about ripping someone's heart out! OMG! The second issue is: I don't know when book 2 is coming out. I am not sure if I can hold out too long before I lose it! I need more Rico and Kate in my life! I am hoping that a release date is announced soon, until then I will be stalking Jamie Loeak on her site

When Kate moves to Florida, her whole life changes. She learns that demons really exist, and that they live on Earth with the humans. Demons want to possess human souls so they can feel emotions that the humans possess. They want to feel love. Kate realizes that Kern and Erik are both after her soul for some unknown reason. When Kate starts having visions, she keeps most of them to herself. She doesn't want anyone to think badly of her so she investigates this mystery on her own. Of course, Rico, Adriana and Donovan are also looking for information as well. Will Kate be able to figure out why her soul is so important to them? Will she be able to save her body and soul?

Words can't describe how much I loved this book. I was truly captivated with Body and Soul. I was hooked from the very beginning. Once I started reading Body and Soul, I couldn't put it down. For one thing, the story is beautifully written.. I felt like I was right there with the characters through everything they faced, rooting them on. Jamie filled this story with adventure, mystery, tragedy and romance.

Relating to the characters is what makes stories magical. I loved all the characters in this book. Well, except Erik. I hated him. I don't like the evil characters in the books. Kate was a true heroine in this story. She didn't know anything about demons really existing so she was very inquisitive. She was always seeking information. I also loved to see Kate grow gradually through the story. I loved how she put other people before herself. Who could now love Rico? Black hair, cobalt blue eyes. He was one of my favorite characters in the story. I loved watching him grow as well. He was very set on keeping Kate at arms length. He didn't want to fall for her because of who and what he is.
