Having enjoyed the PBS series so much and enjoying the show as it is now on PBS-YOU, I wanted this book so dang bad and am not at all disappointed. Its wonderful because I liked so many of the segments I had seen on the show and either because I forgot to record the show or didn't remember everything said, I wanted something in my hands to refer to.

There are so many parts of the series and book that I appreciate that I don't know where to start. First off I love the mix of east-west prevention and medical care. So I did like Aging Well and Creating Wellness which is something I take very seriously. The part on Partners in Healing: Mind Body and Prayer was really interesting and not at all "religious" or preachy which I appreciated. The Making Work Meaningful is a section everyone who hates their job should read. And I so agree with the Ode To Joy: Why Your Attitude Matters, because I know firsthand this is so true. And the Mindful Eating isn't preachy but so informative and even I who try to do what it speaks about learned some new things.

And the Health and Hunches: Unlocking Your Intuition is a MUST read because it is so empowering and really drives home the point that you/I are much smarter than we think and that going with ones gutt is often the BEST way. And because we are active and love the out of doors and in the past few years have discovered the U C Davis Sports medicine department I savoured Peak Performance: Sports and The Mind which I recommend to anyone regardless of age, if at all interested in this new area of preventive care.

There are interviews in the book of people such as Dr. Weil, Geneen Roth (Woman Food and God), and others. You would think there would be some substance, some value, some insight this book wuuld have provided. Based on the PBS show I expected so much. The book is not even a 1 star rating.

Example the interview with Dr. Weil is two pages. The questions are superficial so his answers are just some high level talk about stress. The interview with Geneen Roth again two pages, she talks about how much weight she lost over the years, and that when she was thin she still was not happy. That was it, but it was because of the questions being asked. This book could have focused on a handful of people but instead it is a rushed 2 page interview of many people and nothing of value. I bought this used for 1 cent on Amazon and I paid too much.
