Body Structures and Functions, Ninth Edition,
By Holly Jenson (Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Body Structures and Functions (Hardcover)
I admit that I did not read this entire book. I found so many errors in what I did read that I did not want to continue for fear of learning incorrect information without realizing it. Some errors I found are as follows: Page 3: "The dorsal aspect of the foot is the back or sole of the foot." Ask any doctor, look in any medical dictionary, or check out any picture of foot anatomy. The dorsal aspect of the foot is the back or top of the foot, not the sole of the foot. The sole of the foot is the plantar or volar aspect. Page 4: "For example, the hand is proximal to the wrist." No. The hand is not proximal to the wrist. The hand is distal to the wrist, and the wrist is proximal to the hand. Page 37: "sonagram" The correct spelling is "sonogram." Page 106: "peroneus logus" The correct spelling is "longus." Page 4: The book lists the appendix as being found in both the abdominal and pelvic cavities. However, it is only found in the pelvic cavity. Page 36: "A malignant tumor or cancer is when cells move rapidly from one place to another. This process is called metastases." The correct term here would be "metastasis." If you are taking a course that uses this book as its textbook, please make sure the instructor knows enough about anatomy to be able to find all the errors for you.

Body Structures and Funcitons,
By Read-A-Holic (US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Body Structures and Functions (Body Structures & Functions) (Hardcover)
Body Structures and Functions: Hardcover Edition (Body Structures & Functions)
I have utilized this book for quite some time. The students love the illustrations, medical terminology sections, as well as it's ease of learning, and have stated, for the most part that they consider this a wonderful book. It is mainly utilized for students who must take it if they are in a program for certain medical field positions such as Ward Clerks, Medical Administrative Assistants, etc. There is no way a nursing student would be able to use this, but that is what is good about it. It basically depends on what level of A&P learning one needs. I also have found some errors in the past, but realize it is really our responsibility to contact the publisher in the hopes of them addressing them. I have been at fault here, in the past, but will not ignore it again because overall this is a too nice a book to downgrade it in it's entirety.
