Flashback To Stronger Music!,
By
This review is from: Body Talk (Audio CD)
I wish I had a decent description for Imagination's type
of music.I really don't but the most I can say is that I've never heard anything else quite like it-Imagination's sound was and is totally original.I suppose the best way to explain it is a very glossy variation of American dance-funk and European electronica. The title track, with it's pounding beat is probably the closest thing to pure funk on this album.Meanwhile "So Good,So Right","Burnin' Up","Tell Me Do You Want My Love" and the unforgettable "Flashback" all have that patented Imagination sound I've been trying to explain-a sound that I suppose gave birth to both the dance-pop and house movements of the later part of the decade. But it's "I'll Always Love You (But Don't Look Back)" that surprised me so much-it's a stripped down ballad performed only on acoustic piano and proves that this trio had the skilled songwriting abilities to back up their purpulsive beats and rhythms. All of these qualities make 'Body Talk' an essencial for anyone interested not only in great music but any fan of early 1980's dance and funk.

Simply the Best!!,

I first heard Imagination's song Just an Illusion on the soundtrack of F/X the movie back in 1981. These three guys Leee (yes, 3 E's)Steve and Ashley are absolutely amazing!!! The piano and Leee's voice will have you listening to these songs over and over. I have been a fan of this group since their debut Body Talk in 1981 followed by In the Heat of the Night. I was so very sad and dissappointed to learn they had disbanded in 1998.

Frankly, I've never paid any attention to this trio of performers, but, after reading the reviews of others on amazon, I decided to take a chance and purchase "Body Talk." I have to admit, this is good stuff! Pay particular attention to the title track, "Body Talk!" You may find yourself looping it over and over. The rest of the disc is also good. These gentlemen apparently had talent. If you can get it at a good price, I recommend the album!

Love IT!!,

Even though I was too young to remember when this album debuted, one song always stayed with me: "Body Talk". Absolutely beautiful song!! I remember first hearing it in some old Judd Nelson movie called "Making the Grade" and was appropriately made a love theme throughout the movie and played in a "love scene" w/ Jonna Lee ("hot chick" in movie). Even though I was told to cover my eyes, I never forgot the song and made my purpose in the future to hunt it down and add it to my CD collection! There are other great songs on this album too, "So Good, So Right", "In and Out of Love", and "Tell Me Do You Want My Love"...This is a better deal than the "Very Best of Imagination: The Singles" because you have the LP versions of featured songs. I feel ripped after buying that one!! Whatever happened to these guys?!?

Imagination is just IMAGINATION,

This review is from: Body Talk (Audio CD)
After all those years Imagination still will be something special. Their sound is still IMAGINATION. The opening song "Body Talk" immediately sets the stage, soundscape and style of Imagination in several albums to come. It's that semi disco rhythm, the pulsing base, piano tones, handclaps and vocals. Sensual, atmospheric and even now still sounding fresh. Classic soul/dance music! This album contains Imagination's anthem "Body Talk". Also very good is "So Good, So Right" and "Flashback". Outstanding and very emotional is the ballad "I'll Always Love You (But Don't Look Back)". It's nice music to dance to, but also good to lay back and enjoy.

An unusual song,

I became a fan of Imagination when I was first introduced to the original'Burnin up'(81'). At first I didn't really appreciate it but as time went on I grew to love it - so much that I started playing the piano because of that one song. I have produced many versions of that song and I'm working on a rendition of it, with my own piano melodic solo. This song is so different than the rest of their hits that it's more of a fusion combination of disco, rag-time, jazz and R&B. |
