Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Starred Review. Popular UK nutritionist and food writer Clarke (Bodyfoods Cookbook, Yummy!) offers a sane and practical guide to better nutrition for those on the go in this well-balanced compilation of recipes and nutritional advice. Eschewing fads like low-fat and high-protein diets, Clarke advises readers to exercise moderation and eat a wide range of foods, paying more attention to the health benefits of a particular food than counting fat grams or calories. While this approach is nothing new, Clarke provides clear, blessedly brief explanations as to why nutrients matter, and bolsters her arguments, point by point, with simple, fresh recipes that highlight particular ingredients, such as her Mango, Lime and Raspberry Juice (which provides a boost of beta carotene and vitamin C) and her high-fiber, whole grain Favorite Oatcakes. In addition to simple, tasty recipes, Clarke provides tips on takeout and restaurants eating, and includes an extensive section on "therapies," covering everything from coping with jet lag to calming indigestion, lowering cholesterol and boosting fertility. Clarke's sensible, well-rounded take on nutrition is a welcome voice of reason in an field dominated by dubious cure-alls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly informative and strongly recommended, November 5, 2006
This review is from: Bodyfoods for Busy People (Paperback)
Nutritionist and Cordon Bleu trained chef Jane Clarke uses a particularly 'reader friendly' approach to providing information for the time stressed as to what they can eat to best fuel their bodies to life a hectic lifestyle. Included are savory recommendations for 10-minute emergency suppers and energy-boosting snacks; instructions on the healthiest ways to eat out in upscale, family, and fast-food restaurants; effective travel snacks; ideal lunches; and even 'late-night soothers'. "Best Foods For Busy People" also addresses such issues as using food to treat ailments ranging from head aches, hangovers, fatigue, bad complexions, and weight problems. Enhanced with "kitchen cook friendly" recipes, color photography, and such specialized advice as 'Bodyfoods Solutions for Preventing Cancer', 'Combating the Symptoms of Stress', and 'Bodyfoods Solutions for Mothers-To-Be', "Body Foods For Busy People' is highly informative and strongly recommended for non-specialist general readers with an interest in creating and maintaining good health for themselves and their loved ones.

I love this book! I found it to be a very helpful breakdown of how to eat well & enjoy the taste of food. My favorite page is about what to keep in your pantry at all times, so you have enough items to make a proper meal/snack. I reference it constantly before grocery shopping. It has a great selection of recipes, including some specific for migraines, pregnancy, & stress reduction. Along with having a beautiful layout and nice photography, this book helps breakdown what foods do for your body, how they can help your body and what to avoid that hurts your body...and what foods you just can't replace because it's simply not worth the lost in taste! (ie. margarine for butter)

Most of the recipes have ingredients that I don't even know what it is and some things a little weird for me but the information through out the book is so great. It gets me excited to eat more healthy and that is needed!
