Omigosh (to quote Natasha),
By Rolle Hursten "dog lover, bookworm" (Las Vegas, Nevada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Bodyguard and the Show Dog (Perfect Paperback)
This book is so funny. I ordered it when I saw one review site had compared the style to that of Janet Evanovich and let me tell you I was not disappointed. I love the female bodyguard concept and the wacky situations Natasha gets herself into. The chapter where she's being chased by an animal abuser with a rifle in his hand is hilarious. Her relationship with sexy Striker is hot and the conflict she has over her choice of career and dealing with Striker's displeasure over this is well-written. Pit and Bigun are zany and I want to see more of them.
I've ordered #1 in the series and can't wait for #3. Natasha is young, independent, wacky, and thinks of herself as protector of the innocent. The dialogue is great, the adventures Natasha has are humorous, and overall, this book is a winner.

Action, Adventure, and Romance in grand style!!,

This review is from: The Bodyguard and the Show Dog (Perfect Paperback)
One of my favorite writers is back. This second book in The Bodyguard series reprises characters fans loved in the first, and throws a few new ones into the mix. Along with the action, suspense, and romance we expect from Ms. French, this book is liberally laced with humor.
Back for another round of action and danger are Natasha Chamberlain, the feisty bodyguard with a hair-trigger temper; Jonce Striker, her enigmatic half-Cherokee boss turned lover; Roger Valentine, a client in the first book and now a friend; Pit and Bigun, Valentine's Samoan bodyguards who spend half their time keeping Natasha out of trouble. This time Natasha is hired to guard Myrtle Galbreath's prize-winning show dog, Chumley. Chumley is ill-mannered and obnoxious but takes a shine to Natasha. Someone has threatened the dog's life if Myrtle enters him in an upcoming championship. Before too long the fur begins to fly in more ways than one as first Chumley and then Natasha are stalked by bad guys bent on eliminating them both. Natasha's unorthodox style as a bodyguard throws her into one scrape after another while Jonce works frantically behind the scenes to keep her alive. He plans to marry this infuriating woman and, one way or another, she's getting to the altar in one piece! Natasha's list of suspects adds intriguing dimensions to the mystery. Is it the seedy owner of a strip club, a lecherous Senator, a gang of vicious bikers, or a crazed State employee out to end her life? I suggest you read the book to find out. Christy Tillery French excels at creating very human characters, intense action, provocative storylines, and sizzling romance. Established fans and new readers will want more of this series. I hope book number three is in the offing, Ms. French.

There's a new and improved heroine in town!,
By Caitlyn Hunter "Author" (North Carolina, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Bodyguard and the Show Dog (Perfect Paperback)
I've been a fan of this author since her first book came out and am always delighted to see a new one hit the shelves. Her latest, The Bodyguard and the Show Dog is, without a doubt, her best to date. Be warned: keep a box of tissues close at hand to mop up the tears from laughing so hard! Chumley is a hoot, Striker is dashing and sexy (as usual), and I like Natasha so much I want to be exactly like her in my next life.
I've read quite a few reviews that liken this series to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books, and all I can say is, "Move over, Stephanie, there's a new and improved heroine in town, and her name is Natasha!" So, to all the Stephanie Plum fans out there, read the Bodyguard series and fall in love with a new bunch of quirky, rip-roaringly funny characters. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in this wonderful series. Please don't keep us in suspense for long, Ms. French.

This review is from: The Bodyguard and the Show Dog (Perfect Paperback)
The Bodyguard and the Show Dog is a like a fresh drink from the perpetual fountain of love, sex and wit.
Natasha Chamberlain is a feisty bucking bronco of a bodyguard. While she is contemplating her love life, charming Myrtle Garbreath walks in to her office seeking her services. She hires Natasha to guard her nasty little spitball of a champion show dog, Chumley the Pug. The valuable pooch is kidnapped and Natasha begins a case that seems to be veiled in jinx at every corner which makes this book wickedly fun. Her penchant for living life at full throttle with an unfastened seatbelt lands her in a boatload of trials and tribulations. Her eagerness to straighten out one of the "one-percenter" bikers is a testament to her system of moral justice. The escapades keep the pages blistering and turning rapidly. It is easy to see why Christy French is a fast rising talent. She writes in a smart and sexy style with devotion to fully fleshing her characters. Her story line builds steadily into a complete picture keeping the reader fully invested to the last sentence.

More Humorous, Exciting, Page-Turning Adventures in Book 2 of the Bodyguard Series!,

This review is from: The Bodyguard and the Show Dog (Perfect Paperback)
Christy French has become one of my favorite authors. Why? She creates novels that titillate, educate, and keep you up late. French has mastered the art of writing novels readers can't put down.
The BodyGuard and the Show Dog brings back familiar characters I enjoyed getting to know in The BodyGuard. Main character Natasha is a bodyguard with attitude who always gets hurt but won't give up or give in, ever. The offensive pug Chumley made me giggle. The return of love interest Striker made me sizzle. And the wonderful way French is able to describe a variety of people we've all known in every community is impressive. A must read for those who like adventure, quirky misadventures, and adventures of the heart. Get ready for another roller coaster, wild ride! In this fast-paced and zany, humorous second adventure of sincere, but bumbling, female bodyguard, protection specialist, Natasha Chamberlain, heroine of The Bodyguard and the Show Dog , there are continuous chuckles and smiles, caused by a whirlwind of bungling mishaps, unfortunately, created by well-meaning and conscientious efforts, that often lead to the brink of disaster, as Natasha becomes bodyguard to Chumley, a small champion show dog, whose life is threatened by mail from an unknown assailant should Chumley participate in an upcoming dog show. In numerous, unorthodox attempts to discover the culprit threatening Chumlely's life, to continuously frustrating the love of her life, Jonce Striker, her sensible and capable boss, Natasha leads the reader on a constant series of humorous adventures. Some of her escapades include being thrown out of a strip club, being mistaken for a prostitute, and an untimely visit to a nudist colony, as she continues her ambitious search for the one promising harm to Chumley. Many times Natasha faces great physical danger, but with providential good luck, she somehow manages to escape deadly harm. Author Christy French has put together a delightfully, humorous adventure with this second book in the Bodyguard Series. These are the mishaps of an irresistible, flighty heroine whom we all love for her personality qualities, reminding us of Lucy in the entertaining I Love Lucy television show. For satisfying entertainment and a delightful reading experience filled with laugh out-loud escapades, I heartily recommend The Bodyguard and the Show Dog as a delightful read. Promising, another fun-filled reading adventure, the third book of the series, The Bodyguard and the Rock Star will soon be available. In addition, The Bodyguard series of talented author, Christy French, is being compared to popular author, Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, a high honor and rightly so. Christy French has entered the ranks of being a talented author of exciting and humorous, comedic adventures. Keep up the good work, Christy! Book of the year...or it should be! The Bodyguard and the Show Dog by amazing writer Christy Tillery French, is such a fun story...FANTASTIC ACTUALLY... I have never read a book of this genre that's been this entertaining before. This story actually has it all...and then some...Action-A-Plenty, Romance That Sizzles, and Page Turning Intrigue...Oh, and I don't want to forget to mention the Perfect Mix Of Humor. What more could any reader ask of their favorite writer?
I'd give this book more than (5) Stars if that were an option! Do yourself a huge favor and order your copy of this book today before Amazon sells out. You'll be glad you did! You won't want to miss out on the sizzling chemistry between sexy Natasha Chamberlain and the manly Jonice Striker, or the humor between champion show dog Chumley and Jonice Striker, or the edge of your seat excitment the three main characters in this nonstop action packed series stumble into as they jump head-first into danger! The Bodyguard And The Show Dog is the second book in the Bodyguard series and it sets the stage for the third visit to another scene of the crime with The Bodyguard And The Rock Star. I, for one, cannot wait! I love this writer and I love this series! I am proud to give Ms. French's The Bodyguard And The Show Dog, "TWO THUMBS UP!" (Highly Recommended!)

Natasha Chamberlain is fiercely independent, highly motivated and beautiful to look at. She is equally passionate about Striker ( the man she loves) and her career as a bodyguard. Natasha's feisty demeanor often gets her in trouble, a characteristic Striker and her loyal friends happen to find appealing. "The Bodyguard and the Showdog" pits Natasha against a thug threatening the life of Chumley, a multi-award winning but highly obnoxious pug. The incidents that arise constantly force her to justify her choice of career to Striker and the people she loves.
With this premise in mind, the talented Christy Tillery French, author of "Wayne's Dead" and "Chasing Demons" has penned her second novel in the awesome "The Bodyguard" series. French's delightful sense of humor and her marvelous imagination serve to make her novels comparable to any on the bestseller list and I believe that "Natasha" and "The Bodyguard" series will easily propel her to Evonavich's Stephanie Plum fame. If you are into page-turning adventures overlaid with hilarity, you will enjoy "The Bodyguard and the Showdog." Memorable characters, pregnant plots and exemplary writing skills combine to make Christy Tillery French an author you will want to add to your list of favorites. Congratulations, Ms. French, you have penned another winner. Keep them coming. Beverly J Scott, author of "Righteous Revenge" "Ruth Fever" and "Jena's Choice". http://www.beverlyjscott.com

Ms French does it again!,
By
This review is from: The Bodyguard and the Show Dog (Perfect Paperback)
I had the pleasure of reading Ms French's book, The Bodyguard. The Bodyguard and the Show Dog is the second book of the series. I knew I was in for another ride of pure entertainment with the madcap antics of the heroine Natasha. Every story needs a hook to draw the reader in. Natasha is truly a character that would draw anybody in. The fact that she thinks she is capable of being a bodyguard is amusing enough. Going along for the ride with her as one mishap after another occurs is humorous, as well as enjoyable.
Natasha is a character that is slowly evolving. She is madly in love with Striker and finds herself at a crossroad. Should she do what he wants or do what is in her heart? What transpires is usually a bit of a disaster and not exactly true to either. But she is forever in the game, toting a gun and unafraid to use her skills to physically bring smeone to their knees. The reader never knows what will happen next to Natasha. Her love for animals seems to get her in as many scrapes as her love of being a bodyguard. It doesn't matter if she is only guarding a little pug dog; she is in the game 100%. This is a fast moving, often comical read. I highly recommend it for readers that need an escape from reality. Natasha is a character one can honestly love. I cannot wait to read more of this series.

Since the other reviewers give you details of the plot, I don't need to go into that. Suffice it to say that Ms. French is a gifted writer who really knows her craft. From dialogue and characterization to exquisite description and pacing, she grabs you from the first page ... and doesn't let go until the happy resolution.
Her heroine (or main protagonist, if you prefer) NATASHA is to die for. She's a lovely, witty woman who can get into more trouble than Janet Evanovich's legendary Stephanie Plum. In fact, Natasha charmed me even more than the klutzy. yet lovable, Stephanie, often vying for top honors about who is more fun! I loved this book, having discovered it after reading the first in the series, BODYGUARD, and now I'm going back to read more of this author, starting with CHASING HORSES ... and I don't dare miss WAYNE'S DEAD. What an intriguing title that is. Ms. French has a knack for choosing eye-catching covers, too. This one is a gem and if you haven't seen the "fetching" silhouette of the young woman in the peekaboo, see-through dress on the cover of BODYGUARD, flick back to that page NOW. Lovely ... All I have to say about the spoiled-rotten, kidnapped dog is that he's one lucky pooch to have a "sleuth" like Natasha in his corner. He's in for some exciting, hilarious times ... as is the reader. End note: I read this book in August and due to back-up of reviews, wasn't able to review it right away. Sorry about that. SIDENOTE: You may have noticed that Amazon has made some changes to its website. If it looks the same to you right now, look out for a new format that will be rolling out gradually in the weeks to come. If you can see the changes, especially the review format, I'd like to know what you think. Please leave me a comment with your opinion. "Love the new look" or "Hate the new look" comments are perfectly acceptable. My e-mail address is at top of this review. Thank you for your time."

Oh, Natasha...,
This review is from: The Bodyguard and the Show Dog (Perfect Paperback)
In his quarterly newsletter, Robert Stanek, author of "The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches" and many other books for young people, regularly features the books of new and upcoming authors as well as his favorite established authors. He's done this for the past four years. In his October/Fall newsletter, Mr. Stanek features three upcoming authors and one was Christy Tillery French.
Hundreds of devoted fans like me look to Robert's recommendations to find great new authors and books we otherwise might have missed. The book of Ms. French's that I decided to read was "The Body Guard and the Show Dog." This book, is I believe, Ms. French's latest book, and while it isn't the type of book I normally read, I took Robert's recommendation to heart and bought it thinking - worst case I could give it to my wife who loves Danielle Steel and Janet Evanovich. Well, to make a long story short, I read the back 3 days, and enjoyed it all the way. Natasha Chamberlain is a hoot! I've since gone back and ordered another of Ms. French's books. It's called "The Bodyguard" and it's the first book in this series. I've since passed this book along to my wife, and she has it on her nightstand to read next. She put this on the top of her reading stack (which is a really big deal since she's such a fussy reader). I can't wait to see what she has to say because I think she's going to enjoy it too. |
