4.0 out of 5 stars Very good!
Bodypop is a very subdued and synthpoppy collection of electronica that is very unlike their previous release Aggressor, which leans very dark and heavy on the ebm scale. I am a little disapointed that they didn't run with this direction on Bodypop and explore more of the darkness in the ebm realm. But all in all, I am fairly satisfied with the end result. 2.0 out of 5 stars ........disappointing.........
I saw And One in a show in Cleveland touring with VNV Nation and some other horrible group I didn't catch thier name. But I was impressed with AND ONE and thier stage presence. The music cracked and I was entranced...but sadly, they had sold out of cd's at the show. I had not heard thier music before that night. But the energy caught me off guard!

So I sought...

If I had to describe Bodypop in two words or less, I would call it "happy somber". Most of the songs are written in And One ballad-like fashion with their infusion of early Depeche Mode influences. In fact, my personal opinion is that Bodypop takes Depeche Mode's Christmas Island, and plants it firmly into the ground. The soundscape is pretty much constant throughout the entire album, so listening to any ONE song is good. But when listening to the album in it's entirety, can kinda get boring. I would recommend the band to diversify their sound library on their next album. The album, from a production perspective, is produced very nicely! Steve does a good job at keeping the sound clean while covering all aspects of the audio spectrum.

Unlike Aggressor, in Bodypop, Steve does sing in both English and Deutsche languages. Again on my personal preference, I prefer Deutsche - even tho I can't understand it - because it adds a certain element of darkness I crave.

In all fairness and goodness, I would recommend this album to any And One or synthpop fan....but if you're looking for ebm, I will recommend the previous album, "Aggressor".

Hope this was helpful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Depeche meets Nitzer Ebb. Dark yet bouncy., February 28, 2010

I listen to almost nothing but electronica, and have done so for decades. So very little surprises me anymore. But And One's Bodypop is an exception. Imagine Depeche Mode caught midway between 1983's Construction Time Again and 1984's Some Great Reward--a bit closer to the latter than the former--mixed with Nitzer Ebb. Others have already said it, so I can only echo: the sound is dark yet bouncy, if such a thing is possible. It's the strangest mix, and you'll find yourself constantly smiling while listening to it, yet unsure exactly why. One of the most interesting yet accessible, unexpected, compelling, and foot-tappingly happy CD's I've bought in a while. It will indeed make your body pop. Highly recommended for the synth fan who thinks he's heard it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Excellent, November 28, 2007
This review is from: Bodypop (Audio CD)
This is the first time ive ever done this, and this cd is the reason why. From start to finish, infectious grooves, awesome vocals, and And One at their synthpoppy best. A classic, each track is great, you'll be tapping your feet and singing it over and over in your head. Ipod extreme rotation on these tracks. As a long time fan, i have every cd they ever made, and this is the best, period.

Do yourself a favour, and get the bonus disc version. And look out for the Feb '08 "covers" cd. If you like Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, Depeche type music, you will LOVE this. Production is awesome, very bass heavy and full sounding, songs are catchy, some in German, some in English, all fantastic !!

An absolute must-own for electronic music. I have boatloads of cd's, this is the first time ive ever decided to write about one. It ranks up there with Trentemollers "last resort", Tweekend by Crystal Method, Converting Vegetarians by Infected Mushroom...cd's that are brilliant from beginning to end, that you feel compelled to share with others. Enjoy!!

I have been a fan of And One since the early 90's and it amazes me how there is no radio play for fantastic musicians like this in the USA. This CD has every thing you could want from great music including catchy tunes. Buy this and every AND ONE - it will make you feel like someone is out there thinking outside the box. Every song is great and the conceptual flow is brilliant. Enjoy and Thanks to And One for making music for those of us that need audible candy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music so good you'll actually want to purchase it, April 6, 2009

I first heard And One's Krieger on an internet radio station and I was sold (you should check it out http://www.thisiscorrosion.com/.)

I went to And One's website and heard tracks from Bodypop. After hearing the great songs I headed straight to Amazon in hopes they would have the mp3 "albums", and I purchased both Krieger and Bodypop. Now I'm taking the time to spread the word about this band and album.

Bodypop is a great mix of tracks with German and English vocals. The dynamics shift a great deal from the dark and ambient opening track Mein Anfang, to light and rhythmic tracks with great vocal melodies like Military Fashion Show. Enjoy The Unknown is a great track with a strong Depeche Mode influence. And One brings their own sound and style to the table to their mix and I haven't heard anything quite like them.

This is a great album for working at the computer or taking a drive (thought you'll get some looks while bouncing around to some of the songs.)

[...].

Check out Krieger by And One also.

5.0 out of 5 stars The sound of believer, April 8, 2008
This review is from: Bodypop (Audio CD)
For a long time, I have been wanting to check out And One's music but kept on putting off. I saw them live last year on the VNV Nation tour and loved their brand of synthpop. I finally got around this past weekendto buying their last full-length album BODYPOP. I have not been able to stop listening to the cd. The music is pure ear candy to this synthpop fan. I love how Steve Naghavi croons. His voice is deep but not like Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode or even Steffan of De/vision. Steve definitely has a distinct voice of his own. The music itself is a lot of fun to dance to. Songs like "Military Fashion Show", "So Klingt Liebe", and "Stand the Pain" has a ton of energy that will make any wallflower want to hit the dancefloor. Of course there is the occasional ballad. I particularly am fond of "The Dream". I particularly enjoyed the crisp synthesized melodies and gentle dance beats. I wish the cd was a bit longer but otherwise there is nothing about BODYPOP that I didn't like. Great album. I am definitely an And One fan for sure now.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best!!!, November 20, 2007
This review is from: Bodypop (Audio CD)
This is one of And One's best. I saw them with VNV and had some prior knowledge of them too, and they are fantastic. Perfect synth, there is nothing more to say. Not quite as hard as some of their other cds, I must admit, but still amazing. Naghavi is a genius, Chris is a genius, Gio is a genius. Honestly, this is probably one of the most influential albums of *my* life anyway. Love isn't enough to describe it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Damn Blast, April 19, 2007
This review is from: Bodypop (Audio CD)
Well well well. For the person who said they should of kept leaning towards the Dark EBM side...you're an idiot. And One definitely went the right way with this album. They still sounded good before, but their more upbeat sound blows away any "Dark EBM", not that I don't love EBM, but they definitely took a turn for the better with this one. This album would be appreciated by anybody who's into any kind of electro music.

The first thing I should say is that on this album, And One sound like a modern version of Depeche Mode...only with a german accent. NOT THAT THAT IS A BAD THING. Ok, other than that...I love this album. Great dance songs and verry well produced. Synth Pop/Electronica/Dance!
