Book Description

Osprey Civil Aircraft September 1995
Despite the recent efforts of McDonnell-Douglas and Airbus, Boeing is, and has been for many years, the very essence of civil aviation. This new volume from civil aviation photographer Mark Wagner portrays the everyday world of the Boeing jet liner, from an aged 727 shuttling from La Guardia to Miami, to a new 747 arriving at Heathrow after a long-haul flight from Australia. This volume includes a chapter on each of the Boeing family, featuring many new colour photographs as well as some archive material.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fine Presentation of Boeing's Commercial Jetliners, December 1, 2003
By
Daniel L. Berek (Flanders, NJ, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Boeing Jetliners (Osprey Civil Aircraft) (Paperback)
Though this book is starting to show its age, it still provides a fine overview of the major Boeing commercial airplanes; the chapter on the 777, however, is brief, as when the book was written, only the prototype had flown.

The pictures are of high quality, but there are several two-page spreads. My main criticsm of this book is that the 707 is underrepresented. Included are only the cargo variants flying today; there are no early pictures of passenger-carrying variants. Even more puzzling is that the author did not include a picture of the Dash-80 in his introduction; after all, the Boeing 707, 720, 727, 737, and 747 all owe their lineage to this aviation classic; this plane has been beautifully restored and many recent photos surely exist.

To his credit, Mr. Shaw includes detailed and interesting annotations for each picture, with information on the aircraft, its setting, and the airline, making this book a pleasure to read. Despite the book's shortcomings, I would happily recommend it to any civil aviation enthusiast.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Book with Lots of Pictures and Performance, January 21, 2002
This review is from: Boeing Jetliners (Osprey Civil Aircraft) (Paperback)
This was an enjoyable book that covered the Boeing airliners from the 707 to 777. It had a picture and listed performance of each type, engine variant, and model variant (ie 767ELR vs. 767-200). The book was a quick and enjoyable read. The book is part of the color enthusiast series and it was exactly that - had lots of nice pictures and a summary of each plane. It did not contain schematics or a lot of technical parameters. All in all, I recommend this book to any enthusiast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellente!, August 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Boeing Jetliners (Osprey Civil Aircraft) (Paperback)
THIS BOOK, ladies and gentlemen, is BY FAR one of the greatest and most informative books written on airliners I have ever read! The pictures are very clear and very professional! As for the writing.... superb! The only SLIGHT disappointments were that there is no real index and it is a somewhat aging book, but other than that ---- perfect!
