Big Boggle packs the most enduring fun into the smallest (big) package., December 8, 2008

Boggle is hands down the most popular game with my literary family. The concept is simple - shake the letter cubes into the grid and then find the words in the matrix of letters. Boggle Deluxe (originally known as "Big Boggle", and later as "Boggle Master's Edition") is a worthy, even essential, upgrade to the regular versions 4x4 grid. It's simple math. With a five by five grid there are many more words in there - and particularly many more long words devilishly folded up in there. Plus, with the larger area, there are fewer dead plays. Even if you get a board with mostly consonants, there are bound to be a few productive nooks and crannies. To counteract this, the rules disallow 3 letter words. This version (Deluxe) has a plastic adapter that shields off a row allowing this set to play 4x4 or 5x5.
The Deluxe edition takes a great game and makes it even better. This our family's most played game. The trouble is that the 5x5 version stopped being manufactured in the USA back in '93 or so. Now it's an expensive sought after item. Hasbro UK sells it as "Super Boggle". See http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hasbro-41810-Super-Boggle/dp/B0002VZ2UK
If you like Boggle, it's worth seeking out the 5x5 version. It's that much better.

Big Boggle / Boggle Deluxe is better!, September 2, 2009

I've played both standard Boggle (4x4) and Big Boggle / Boggle Deluxe (5x5), and I have to say that Big Boggle / Boggle Deluxe is so much better! It boggles my mind (sorry for the pun) that they haven't re-released the bigger version since 1997. I paid an outrageous price for one several years ago to replace our aging 1970's Big Boggle. That game has seen so much use the lettering on the old cubes started to wear off. If you can find this anywhere, I highly recommend it over the standard Boggle. If you're content with searching for shorter words then don't bother. But if you want a challenge and a better chance at finding super-long words (thereby impressing your opponents), this is definitely the one to buy. (Do the math... 25/16 = 56% more letters!)

great game, silly price, January 7, 2009

We love the Boggle Deluxe and bought it despite its ridiculous cost. We were unable to find the larger size Boggle at a reasonable price, so we finally bought it anyway because we wanted to be able to make more complex words. It is an excellent game, but priced about three times what it should be, and we simply cannot understand why.
