A pleasant surprise!,

I usually shy away from Valuesoft, but what a pleasant surprise here! No problems installing the collection on my XP system, no noticeable bugs, thoughtful options... and some great games! For this price, you can't go wrong if you like word games.
In my opinion, Upwords is the clear pick of the litter. Extremely addictive! While the game can be played the classic way, several options allow you to spice it up: unlimited tile stacking (instead of the usual 5-tile high), colored tiles (where letter tiles are of different colors, and forming words in the same color doubles your points), time limit, etc. I found the AI to be a decent opponent, even though I didn't know some of the words it used. Another nice touch is that the game displays your current word(s) score before you commit to it -- and if one of the words shown has a score of zero, it means it's not in the game's dictionary. Boggle is fun too. You can play it solitaire, or with AI player(s), and with or without a time limit. The board can be the classic 4x4 cubes, the Big 5x5 cubes board, or the Mega board with 6x6 cubes. Here again, several options allow you to modify the standard play to spice things up (multi-use letters, disallow "s" plurals, minimum word length, and more). Word Hunter is similar to a game called Super Text Twist. Your are given 8 letters forming an anagram, and a certain amount of words to find between 3 to 8 letters. I found the game quite entertaining. Perfect for a quick game if you don't have time for something more meaty. Hangman didn't hold my attention very long, but maybe younger players would enjoy it. One option lets you change the classic hangman character into a spider -- with 8 legs, it allows for more wrong guesses. Other options allows you to make the game more difficult, for instance by disallowing vowel guesses. Pros: - Infinite replay value. - Single player, multiplayer hotseat/network/LAN (haven't tried any multiplayer games yet) - Adjustable AI players difficulty. - Music and/or sound effects can be turned off. - Can be played without the CD in the drive. - According to my CD, it's compatible with Windows Vista too. Cons: - Can't save a game in progress (not a big deal, although it would have been nice for Upwords). - Can't edit the dictionary used by the game (Upwords refused the word "zen" for instance, which I found irritating). - None of the games save high scores. All in all, a great value for very entertaining games (Upwords alone is worth it!)

I love Boggle and UpWords so when I saw this collection I snapped it up. I'm now completely addicted to UpWords and it's worth the money just for that game. I have tried Hangman and Word Hunt and they can be a nice change of pace.
My one problem with these games is that none of them save high scores, which I do find pretty annoying. But that's a minor thing and certainly shouldn't stop anyone who likes Boggle or UpWords in particular.

I have been playing this for weeks, despite annoyances. The best game here is Wordhunter, but only for those who can type quickly. Upwords is fun, but the computer opponent uses words no one has ever heard of. The computer version of Scrabble has a computer opponent that uses challenging words, but the words used by Upwords are downright baffling. Which is fine, I'm up for expanding my vocab. However, when you switch to Hangman, these same unknown and strange words are also used, making the word absolutely unguessable. There should have been some restrictions when the dictionary was loaded into these games. So, fun and worth buying, but it really should have been edited better.

I bought this product to replace an Upwords game I had for an old computer. But this game wasn't anything like the old one and I was quite disappointed. The computer had access to words that only a dictionary wizard for unusual and exceptional words would recognize as words. Fortunately I found just an upwords game and it was much better.
The boggle and other games were okay.

Just an FYI, this item does not appear to work on windows 7 platform, even when trying to have it open in XP version, it locks up after going through the credits. Too bad, my dad loves this game and can't find it anywhere for windows 7.

My husband and I love to play Upwords and Wordhunter a couple times a week. The competition gets pretty intense at times but we have lots of fun. I purchased this computer game for the first time 5 years ago from Best Buy. When I bought a new laptop I couldn't find the installation disc and it wasn't found in the stores. Thank goodness we found this one on Amazon.com!

Good cheap fun,

This is so cheap that you couldn't possibly complain about it. The interface is pretty basic and the graphics are quite lame as to be expected. HOWEVER, this is great fun. You can set the difficulty levels and there are 4 games on here. I don't really play hangman, but I play all the others very frequently.
Upwords is like scrabble except you stack the tiles Boggle is great, but the scoring on it is kind of weird Hangman is just hangman, duh Wordhunter is like text twist - you have to find the words while the clock runs out. (a lot harder than you think) I put these on the same level as freecell or mahjong - a good time passer and doesn't really take any resources from the computer. Don't worry if you have an older machine, it will be able to handle this because it's so basic. Fun word games! For $5 you can hardly go wrong, but don't pay more than $10 or so. It's not worth anything more than that.

4 games on one disk is a lot to expect but this is what you will find in this collection of games from the past that is still challenging and so much fun to play on your computer. They say one of the best way to keep your brain functioning well is to play any word games that involves using your brain to solve puzzles. This collection has Boggle, Upwords, Hangman and Word Hunter. It arrived in good condition and I would do business with the seller again in the future.

If you are serious about learning new words for game play the hangman game on here is great, but the other games are a little boring. I would recommend it though if you like a nice variety in word games.
