Readers are saying, ...."Just saw a good book on this subject--
Bohemian Chic: Decorating with Vintage and Salvage (Volume 1) [Paperback]
Marie Minnich (Author) Has a lot of good ideas in it."

From the Author

The intention of this book was to write in such a way that laypeople, no matter what their level of design experience, could understand and practice the guiding principles. Nobody "owns" a definition of Bohemian Chic, but through careful research, we attempted to demystify the style as we see it.

More About the Author

Ms. Minnich, currently residing in Palm Desert, Ca., is an accomplished, professional, published author who covers wide-ranging subjects, including interior design, poetry, and addiction. She has a Masters Degree in Interior Design in Sustainable Design.

I found this book a great inspiration to add pieces that I truly love and give me pleasure. The authors emphasize that "beauty of the offbeat" accessory or furnishing does not have to make sense to anyone else but you. Look at pieces with a creative eye and break the rules when necessary!

This book is BAD! If you know anything about bohemian style, you will quickly figure this out yourself. I am surprised by the writer's credentials because it is so poorly written. The information is not complete, not accurate, and IS NOT (modern)bohemian style. The photos in the book do not show good examples of bohemian design - they are dark, small, and are not accurate for the style. I have an education and background in Interior Design and have shared this book with a few people in the field - it has now become a private joke for what not to do. I don't like to be so negative but DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS. It reads like a bad undergrad paper. The information would be better as a blog (one that I would not read). If you want to know about bohemian style in interior design you are better off looking at some of the blogs out there - once you do this and compare it with the book, you will see exactly what I mean.

There really isn't much to this title. The photos are all very amteurish photos of the authors' homes and the homes of their friends. THere isn't a discusstion of what is bohemina chic, its' influence, styles and history. Boho chic could have been tied to economic austerity, environmentallly responsible living, etc.

There could have been a discussion of cultural influences, differrent styles of bohemian like artist-loft, old world faded elegance, globe trotting, ethinic chic, Earth-lover, minimal-boho, kitschy-pop and grudge to name a few. Other topics that could have been included thrift-shopping tips, refinish, recycle and salvage, cultivating bohemian glamour and how to get the 1960s beatnik-european-intellectual look.

With all I have said is not there, you can see the title is very lean. And it is not even entertaining.
