I purchased this at a gourmet cooking shop. It worked perfectly. I wanted my egg cooked a little more so I increased the time for a hard boiled egg from 5 minutes to 6 1/2. It was perfect! It's a little tricky seeing the water line because the egg has to be in (because of water displacement) but once you get the feel for that, it works great.

It is a convenient little gadget,

I think the suggested times are ok if you have a powerful microwave like me. Everyone here has had different experiences and the reason for that is that each brand of microwave functions a little differently and there is a noticeable difference between the higher and lower powered (wattage) ones, a fact that people do not appear to keep into account.
I had bought the boiley a while ago but used it today for the first time. I needed a soft-boiled egg for my 11 month old because he does not like it any other way so far. I had seen some of the reviews here saying it takes longer than recommended so put it in the microwave for 4 minutes. It got medium done. On my particular microwave 3 minutes would be tops for a soft-boiled egg, which is very convenient because every time I put it on the stove, even with the "Norpro Egg Rite Egg Timer", I get busy with something else and forget to turn off the stove and take out the egg from the water so it does not overcook, at exactly the right time. I gave it four stars because they have not given clear instructions for its usage. They should be more specific about it and state more clearly the approximate times based on the wattage of the particular microwave being used. Other than that I am satisfied with the product. At first I was afraid of the egg exploding but that didn't happen. My guess is that people whose eggs explode may not be putting the right amount of water. When the water runs out in the cup, no moisture is left outside the egg so the shell gets overheated and explodes. But I am not a scientist so this is just an educated guess.

Gimicky,

Just purchased this item from a Kitchen Store yesterday. I tried it 2 times this morning. The first time the egg exploded 1:30 into the 5 minute cooking time, second time the egg cooked 3:30 minutes and I heard crackling so I stopped to check and the egg had cracked at the bottom and was oozing.
Say your money!

Very Dangerous,

This is a very dangerous gadget. My 5 year old loves Hard boiled eggs. We cooked 3 different eggs the first one worked the second was runny the third one my son was standing by the microwave and we heard a loud boom like a gun shot and the egg had totally exploded right before my son was going to open the door because time was up. If that would have blown up in his face he could have seriously been burned or injured. Please be careful, this product should be taken off the market.

It takes longer than stated,
This review is from: Boiley EGG Boiler Gadget Tool Tools Kitchen Decor (Kitchen)
According to the manual, it takes 3 minutes for soft, and 5 minutes for hard boiled eggs. This is completely wrong.
I boiled a medium size egg for 5 minutes; yolk wasn't cooked at all. 6.5 to 7 minutes is for soft eggs, and 8-10 minutes will finally make hard boiled eggs. Timing can vary depending on the power level of your microwave. Anyhow, it's easy and fun to boil eggs this way. Boiley sure looks cute!!

I purchased this item yesterday and wanted some easy way to boil an egg in the morning this item works great the time listed was off 5 minutes is still a soft egg so experiment i had to go 5:45. the warning states don't use microwaves over 1000 watts so check your microwave manual. Don't over fill the water. Remove metal tray fill to line replace tray and pierce large bottom side of egg with piercing tool provided, place egg with pierced side up. Close lid and cook about 4:45-5:00 min soft about 5:45-6:00 min for hard depending on you microwave. I had never had a soft boiled egg this was a great delicious oops.

I received this one for a gift a few weeks ago. It is AMAZING! It takes only a few minutes to boil an egg and the eggs are far easier to peel than I've ever achieved when boiling in water. Plus, I prefer to have nice fresh boiled eggs, and boiling just one or two on the stove feels like such an oversized effort, so I normally boil 6 or so. But then I have to put them in the fridge... And some don't get eaten. With Boiley, I simply pop ONE egg, and in less than 5 minutes start to finish (including 4:30 seconds microwave time), I have a wonderfully boiled egg. Perfect for me. My wife prefers 5:00 minutes of microwaving. (Nice that we can each have them just exactly how we want them.) Great little tool. (Warning, does get hot. It would be nice if the egg had a rooster's comb or something to grab when removing from the microwave, but a towel works just fine.

I bought this item a good while back. I've been using it for a few months now, and I've found that it's perfect for morning use: I put it into the microwave and go put on my makeup. Wa-La! Perfect boiled egg for breakfast!
I follow the directions exactly -- and have not allowed for "displacement" as has been suggested by another reviewer -- and have not ever had a problem. I have a good, powerful microwave, and 5 minutes does it for me.

It works only about half of the time. I follow all of the directions (including using a less that 1000 watt microwave which lots of people forget) but only a couple of my eggs were hard boiled and the others were boiled but the yolk wasn't cooked all the way but sometimes it did cook most of the way. It is just temperamental but hopefully I will get the hang of it. Works sometimes, I like it overall.
