4.0 out of 5 stars We do love you.
This is one of the strangest Christmas albums I've ever heard. It features nine weird, extremely short versions of "O Xmas Tree" and longer but equally bizarre versions of other Christmas songs. This music is very hard to describe, because it is in several different styles. It's not for everyone, but if you want to hear some unique Christmas music, give it a listen.

1.0 out of 5 stars lemmings lining up....
It's amazing...this cd is definitely non-traditional and "original" AND unique, but all of the "non-traditional" and unique listeners are lining up and tripping over themselves, like lemmings rushing to the cliffs, to praise this waste of $16.48...people... praising Susan Boyles' new cd would be more original than parroting any kudos for this Christmas swill...

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT GREAT XMAS CD! IT'S A HOLIDAY CLASSIC!, January 15, 2009
This review is from: A Boiling Vat Of Adhesive Xmas (Audio CD)
The work involved with this is spectacular. It definitely won't make your head feel full of slush. Grab an eggnog, a plate of cookies, and be transported... As other reviews here state, it's not your grandma's christmas record. No, it goes way way beyond that. This is the xmas record you've always heard in your head. The one that takes all the christmas songs you've ever heard, mixes them up, shuffles them around, and turns them loose like a gentle whirlwind and gets you smiling. Laughing. Wondering why there aren't more records out there, just in general, like this one. It's just the best. Real people, playing real music, with real heart and soul and mirth involved. If you know of anyone who is into anything just a bit out of the ordinary, or off of the beaten path, then get a copy of this for them. To stuff their stocking with or not. There's so much going on in this cd, you could put this on at a 4th of July party and people would be into it. It's just that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best X-mas (album) Ever!!, November 9, 2008
This review is from: A Boiling Vat Of Adhesive Xmas (Audio CD)
Holy flippin' cow! This is great! All kinds of unique and (mostly) modern reworkings of classic Christmas songs. Really cool instrumentation, orchestrating, composing, etc. Around Christmas I can usually enjoy a few Christmas tunes, mainly for sentimental reasons, but I'd never otherwise listen to them. ...Until now! Regardless of the origins of these songs and their original intentions, these are ear grabbing and brain zapping recordings that I'd listen to (and will listen to) throughout the year. If you like experimental music, electronic stuff on the slightly freaky side, arrangments made complex with layers and layers of instrumentation, as well as some done very simply and minimally, some punk rock attitude here and these, some catchy pop hooks, some freaky-out-there melodies, and about everything else under the stars, you'll wet yourself when you hear this. A Residents-esque "A Stranger Manger", a Walter/Wendy Carlos ("Clockwork" era) "Switched on Bethlehem", a Tom Waits-ish "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear", a punked-up "We're a Couple of Misfits", "Christmas Time is Here" that sounds almost like Portishead, and all kinds of wild and listenable versions of "O X-mas Tree". I've listened to it three times in a row so far, and rather than starting to tire of it, I keep getting more and more into it! I can't recommend this enough!

There's a song on this for everyone, not to mention a version of O Christmas Tree for everyone.
Get past the trees, and you'll find one of the greatest Christmas records of all time!
Some sound like the music playing in the record store in A Clockwork Orange.
Bang-up-to-date, I can't think of one family member I wouldn't send this to!

5.0 out of 5 stars Winning!, December 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This xmas album is an absolute winner. If you are a fan of odd music, like Dr. Demento amongst others, than this is the xmas album for you.

The exact moment I knew it was truly winning: We brought it to our xmas party with our friends and the lamest person there said "What is this?" I said "It's some of our xmas music, why?". He thought about it, then said "Do you want to hear some GOOD xmas music? I have some in my car." I laughed and said, no, we like this xmas music... Here's the deal- when the most boring person at the party hates it, you know you really found a gem. It's the greatest xmas album of all time. Of all time!!! :)

Substance W presents sheer genius with A Boiling Vat of Adhesive Christmas. Go ahead, take a listen, I guarantee you'll love it. They skillfully take tried and true XMas songs and twist them into hilarious, wonky, innovative songs that never disappoints throughout the whole CD. And, they're *great* musicians! Each time I exclaimed, "OMFG! That was brilliant!", the next song came along to top it. I love this CD so much that I'll be giving each one of my audiophile friends a copy for XMas.

A refreshing twist on most of the old classics. Definitely not your parent's Xmas cd. Unless your parents are Tim Burton and Wendy O'Williams. If it doesn't grab you on the first run, give it a second spin and you're bound to hear the genius in it. Perfect for any holiday cocktail party.

5.0 out of 5 stars Electic Christmas Exerpts, November 10, 2008
This review is from: A Boiling Vat Of Adhesive Xmas (Audio CD)
A great mix! Theatrical, Rock, Jazz, and even some Clock Work Orange or Zappa-ish approach to holiday music which certainly will grow on you. There is tons of stuff in it, it's everything you could imagine with great instrumentation. It is new and fresh, funny and delightful, frivolous and tough... We love the variations and arrangements. When you're done with all the traditional stuff, put this one on and start a party!

5.0 out of 5 stars Different is good for the Holidays!, November 10, 2008
This review is from: A Boiling Vat Of Adhesive Xmas (Audio CD)
It's almost christmas again and with it comes Christmas songs. This is another great take on some old standards that I am sure anyone would like. I am actually thinking of using it for our Hold music during the Holidays at my office. Not a bad collection of ecletic songs this is by far in my honest opinion a great addition to any Christmas Song Collection. You would be a fool not to listen to the music with a smile on your face. It is after all the holidays and it's their fun take on it. Run don't walk to get this great CD.
