I originally purchased this stuff as an alternative to Icy Hot. I don't think it's a very good substitute. When applied to an injury that's been around for more than a day or two, the bruising/etc has already occurred and I've found arnica to be of little help. That's where I prefer Icy Hot or some aspirin.

However, if applied immediately - or as soon as possible - to an injury, it works shockingly well. I keep a tube in my tool box and bring it with me when traveling. I've hit my thumb solidly with a ball peen hammer while forging, applied arnica on the spot and experienced very minor swelling with no bruising. I've slipped on the ice in high heels and landed squarely on one knee - applied arnica within 15 minutes and it didn't bruise at all! And I'm ANEMIC (honestly, Red Cross wont take my blood donations..). I still experienced an achy knee for the next week, but never any bruising and what would have been a terrible injury was minor.

When I bang myself up and expect a bruise, I'll apply arnica as soon as possible. About a half hour later I reapply. After that, I forget about it! The cream version is not greasy; it's more like a lotion. It has no odor and doesn't sting/burn/etc (just feels like lotion).

I recommend this product to friends, strangers, anybody - it has its limits but when used as I've described, it works quite well!

This stuff works on my spouse who recently had a stroke with pain at the 10-level. That means spontaneous tears.

This cream was recommended by my daughter who is a nurse. She learned about it in Graduate School. We find it very helpful to sore arthritic joints but also good for bruises.

This stuff is fantastic. I use it in my massage practice and it provides great results.
