You want a real, honest-to-goodness Boker Tree Brand knife, right? You want the original article, one of those great old time knives like grandpa used. One made with great materials, easy to open and blades that closed with a solid ring. A Boker made in Germany of Solingen carbon steel that takes a super sharp edge, holds it for a long time and resharpens easily. A knife you can use for years, pass on to future generations. What you want is a Boker Tree Brand knife that says "Solingen" on the shield and "Solingen" on the blade tang. If it does not say "Solingen" anywhere on the knife it's not the real deal. This particular knife is not the real deal.

Boker is confusing the issue by selling what they label as "Traditional Series" Tree Brand knives. They are marked "Germany" on the shield. Boker's website even says Tree Brand knives are made in Germany. This is misleading because they are not really made in Germany. The knives are actually ASSEMBLED in Germany from parts made in China. Some of these knives may be pretty decent but I don't like being deceived with muddy labeling.

Boker has been a respected cutlery maker for well over a century. Their Solingen-made knives are some of the finest pocket knives available. When they had manufacturing here in the USA, their Boker USA Tree Brand knives also enjoyed a fine reputation. But Boker now has manufacturing facilities all over the world and the name "Boker" appears on knives made in Germany, Argentina and China (and maybe elsewhere). Today, you have to do your research before buying a Tree Brand knife. I own several Boker Tree Brand knives as well as a couple of Hen & Rooster brand knives made by Boker. They are all excellent and rank with Case and Queen as my favorite brands.

I was initially just barely disappointed with the jigged bone scales. They are almost yellow and the "jigging" is a helter-skelter pattern, not at all like the photo. But on further consideration, isn't it the individual variations in the organic components of knives like these that make each of them one of a kind? So, rather than be disappointed, I think I'll go ahead and like this one for the size, shape and feel, for the two awesome razor-sharp blades, for the fit and finish, and for the over-all handsomeness of this mid-sized German import. To turn a phrase, it's "not too shabby." Think I'll keep it.

THIS IS A GOOD LOOKING AND HANDLING KNIFE. iT DOES NOT HOLD THE EDGE VERY LONG AND NEED CONSATANT STEELING AND SHARPENING. HAVE HAD OTHER TREE BRAND KNIFES WITH BETTER SHARPENING LONGEVITY THAT NEED VERY LITTLE SHARPENING MAINTENANCE!!!

I like the knife. It was everything they said it would be and it came in a nice case for gift giving. However, for the money I would buy the mini trapper. In my opinion, it has a simpler more rugged look.
