For everyday use, I would not recommend this knife. The blade has a needle-sharp point, but the blade itself is not sharp. The blade is 440C stainless, which is ok, but it is finished with BLACK PAINT, which begins to wear off as soon as you first open it. The thumb studs are too small-- it takes practice to be able to open it with one flick, and then only when you hold it just right. Good luck if you're under stress. The price is a little to high as well; should be < $20.00.
On the plus side, once the blade is open, the ergonomics are good--It fits the hand well. Boker also includes the tiny TORX wrench and another special tool to replace the so-called 'glass-breaker tip' with a tip that looks like a ball point pen, and that's definitely good. With the pen tip in place, this looks exactly like a pen in your pocket; also a plus. I carry and use a knife every day as a cutting tool. This is not suited to that purpose. As a defensive weapon, it could make small puncture wounds of 1 5/8" or less. It's best feature is it's super low profile.

Interestig idea, but far from perfected,

I got this because it was fairly cheap and seemed interesting. It has a lot of problems, however. I disagree that the blade is sharp. I can brush it against my arm and it will not cut unless I apply hard purposeful pressure - a scalpel would have sliced me all up with the same light strokes. The angle of the edge is too steep and the shape of the blade has no belly at all. This design would only make extremely shallow cuts with the tip or the tiny point you see just above the recurve. The blade seemed specialized for stabbing, which makes little sense on such a short blade. This could hurt someone's eye or maybe the back of their hand if they grabbed you and you stuck it in, but then again virtually any blade could do that. This blade would be very inadequate for any other sorts of slashing or thrusting in a self defense situation. I usually advocate a weapon but I can honestly say that for the average male, bare hands would be more effective than this item. The thumb stud is small and spaced tightly near the handle, it would be extremely slow or difficult to flip this blade out under stress.
The only benefits to this item are: It is cheap (can find it for $20 at places). It is as easy to carry and conceal as a small pen. The small glass breaker cap at the end could be useful. It is fairly interesting just from a design viewpoint, I wish some company would implement it better. A metal handled scalpel, an awl, a S&W tactical pen/kubotan, or the CRKT Ringer II hawkbill skinner would all be far better than this item, if you want a very small last ditch defensive item.

This knife was designed for self defense. I doubt it would do very well for whittling sticks. It's appearance is that of a purpose built tool. It's appearance would hopefully make it's use un-necessary if you should ever have to show it to an attacker. If needed it would be more than up to the task. I carry mine clipped inside my right front pocket. I sometimes have to go into areas that are not the most secure. I hope it always remains in in my pocket and never sees the light of day (or night...).

The pivot screw holding the blade in the frame was not tighrt when I recieved this item. I tightened it with the supplied hex-key, and the bolt stripped out resulting in the blade falling out of the handle.
As someone said before the design makes this knife interesting but as far as daily use it is worthless.

I purchased this knife because I had a need to carry while in a suit and on trips. This is a nice little blade, very durable and to the untrained eye, looks just like a pen in a shirt pocket. If you are one who believes, something is better than nothing, this is what you need. Little larger than an exacto blade, but the grip is much better. Comes with tools to tighten the blade if it were to get loose. Again, great little knife for the price.

This is a very attractive looking blade, and I certainly agree that this is not a "Daily user", However, We all carry a "Main blade" and what I would term your go to knife. This is something I carry in mt top pocket, and would do well should you become separated from your "go to" daily blade. I would highly reccomend this for an emergency "Tracheotomy". And, I suppose it could easily get through heavy clothing and inflict a painful if not a fatal wound when used properly. The point is very sharp.

Useful and easy to carry,

I really like this knife. Several of the critical reviews write about the effectiveness of the knife in combat; I don't know the first thing about knife-fighting and can't say one way or the other how useful this would be. What I do like about it is how easy/convienent it is to always have ready (fits in a pen-pocket), how it feels in my hand, and how it cuts.
The blade has a very sharp point and is sharpened to a chisel tip instead of a V-tip (the blade looks like |/ in profile as opposed to most knives I've used where the blade looks like V). I mostly use it for utility work like opening boxes and cutting tape and it is perfect for this. The blade is like an X-acto knife and is also handy for cutting/trimming paper. It takes a little practice to get a feel for opening and closing the knife, especially left-handed. I gave myself a small cut while I was getting used to it, but that's hardly the knife's fault... with something this small it's important to watch your fingertips!

I bought this knife off a Vietnamese guy right outside the German border for 15 Euros. For the price I got it for, it was a decent purchase, but the knife finish is weak. Mine came with a clip and that made it uncomfortable to hold. It has a very sharp point which is cool, but I honestly could not see myself cutting with it. All in all okay purchase.
PS: I don't have problems opening it with the stud, it works fine for me. Mine has a smooth hinge and the blade's pretty well set (as in it won't be moving any time soon).

The Perfect Daily Concealed Carried Knife......,
By
This review is from: Boker Plus Urban Survival Knife (Misc.)
Comming from a German connoisseur and knife collector, i know a good knife.
This is a great knife. Why? because this can be carried on your person 100% of the time and is light weight enough and small enough for it not to be a burden.... and the fact that it is largely undectectible at all, even when folded most people i know thought it was a pen untill they took a closer look. I sugest putting the pen tip on rather than the glass breaker becaause the pen tip actualy gives the knife an advantage.... where as the glass breaker, well, i wouldnt want to try to break a window with a small pen like this. You'd proly break/ cut your hand in the process... The ergonomics are fantastic in regular grip, and in reverse grip are still pretty good. The Grips by the way are ment to hide finger prints, just as the famous glocks and HnK handles do.... I also like this because the blade is small enough for me to do serious dammage in deffence but not too large to actualy kill some one by accedent... if i want to kill some one, ill get a bigger knife. This knife is great for self defence.... I wear this knife cliped on the side of my pocket every single day, and i use it to open bags and pry things open sometimes. When you also factor in that this knife is only like 20 somthing dollars its great. The Polymer and metal are solid. I dont ever see this knife breaking, ever. Get it, and never be defenceless again.... you'll always have somthing on you to deffend your self if you have this...
