Im not a knife nut but I know a lot about different types of steels. I also really appreciate good build quality and attention to detail in the tools I buy. This is a very handy little neck knife, which uses 12C27 steel, which (on paper) is quite good and on par with 420HC. It has good edge retention, corrosion resistance and gets very sharp. In addition to being made of good steel, the Gnome also has a very thick blade so it can be used pretty hard without fear of it snapping. The handles are a nice touch aesthetically and really give this small knife a big knife feel--its reasonably comfortable to hold and use. You'll also be happy to know that Boker's Support/Warranty department is very good and they will quickly address any issues or concerns you have. Having said that...

You get what you pay for. This knife can be had for about $35 shipped. That $35 gets you all the nice little features that I mentioned in the previous paragraph, but there are tradeoffs. All the people who are raving about the excellent quality control and attention to detail these knives have must be really lucky. I have examined two of these knives so far, one from Knifeworks and one directly from Boker.

The first one from KnifeWorks: Had a gap in one of the micarta handles like there was an area that wasnt filled in all the way during construction (picture attached). It doesn't look very deep in the picture, but it went through about half of the slab and I was worried it would compromise the structural integrity in the long run. The knife also had some epoxy oozing out of the cracks between the red liner and the blade (The knife appears to be held together with glue in addition to the hollow pins).

Boker Gnome knife review by J. Sawberry

This is a review of the Boker Plus (Voxknives) Gnome Knife with the green micarta handle, Boker model number 02BO270.

What do I think of the Boker Gnome Knife? Love it, love it, just love it! This is the fabulous little brother to the fantastic Boker Rhino knife (see my review on it). This is now my new EDC neck knife and I wear it everyday.

I think the first toy my mother must have given me as a baby was a knife for I have been playing with and using knives for as long as I can remember. (No, my parents did not really give me a knife as a baby, but I did have one by the time I was in grade school.) Growing up in the country I was raised to use a knife as a tool and became quite skilled with knives early on and now I would be considered highly skilled with knives.

Now the reason I tell you this is not to brag but to qualify the following statement. I feel the Boker Gnome knife due to its size and potential for sharpness should only be used by a skilled knife person due to possible injury to oneself. This knife is sharp, has a very small handle and can slip out of your fingers if you get careless and cut you real bad very fast! Whew, it feels good to get that warning off my chest so now if you cut off your finger with your new Gnome knife and I can still sleep well at night.

Now don't get me wrong, as I said I love this knife and would buy another one in a New York minute. So let's get down to the meat and potatoes of the knife.

Fit and finish: The Boker Gnome knife I received was just simply a work of Art. The fit and finish was nothing less than Outstanding!

I checked out this knife pretty good before i ordered it and it seemed like a cool well built little knife at a reasonable price and i was not disapointed when it arrived.
I have read a few comments on forums about the knife being too tight in the sheath, well if i'm gonna wear a neck knife i want it tight.

Each knife is individually numbered on the top of the blade.

The blade is fairly thick for a small knife.

As you can see from the photo the handle is small. I put a paracord lanyard on mine which gave me more controll.

If you want a neck knife thats going to get heavy use in the outdoors you might be better off with something like the becker necker or isula but for a fun cool knife I think you will be happy with the boker gnome.

If you want to battle bears and muggers, or survive in the woods, this is not your best choice in a knife.

But, if you want a knife that will nestle nearly weightless and invisible in your pocket (or even your purse), and be there for you to slice a sandwich, divide a pizza, open a package, and look classy, yet not menacing to your boss or co-workers, this is for you.

It will also make quick work of slicing open the thick plastic pilfer-proof packaging that is much too prevalent these days.

And yet, if the need arose, you probably could slice through a jammed seat belt, attempt an emergency tracheotomy, pry open a can of chili, or surprise and harm a mugger who can't be otherwise avoided.

It's shaving sharp, pry bar strong, and smartly styled. The blade is longer than many surgical scalpels, and much thicker than a small Swiss Army knife (no disrespect intended to that noble breed of gadget).

The unit I received contained a nearly invisible ooze of glue, but no functional defects at all, and represents a well made tool and a great value for the price.
