Should be named the Troublesome Angel,
By
This review is from: Bold Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
This book starts off with the promise of excitement and doesn't let you down. From their first meeting, Raolfe de Gere, a knight for King William, and Caryn of Ivesham, are at odds. He's a dreaded Norman knight plundering the Saxon lands, and Lady Caryn is an unwilling victim. Events thrust them together as Lady Caryn faces one dangerous encounter after another, and seems to always be at odds with Raolfe. The plot is good and believable and there are plenty of subplots that keep your interest and add more excitement to an already good story. The dialog is good and believable, as are the characters' actions. The descriptions are good, and the scenes all fit nicely within the story. The good characters are very easy to like and the bad ones are ... well, sleazy. And, to keep the reader off track, there are a few characters whose loyalties you'll come to question. In sum, this is a very good and enjoyable historical romance. There's always something going on. And just when you think the romance between Caryn and Raolfe is about to blossom into a deep, trusting and long-lasting love, something happens that tears them apart. At times I wanted to shake both of them to make them see the light. Thankfully, there were characters in the book that did the task for me. Bottom line, this is a book I would recommend.

Heart Squeezer!,
By Abbys (Moreno Valley, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bold Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
Whew! This book will definitely play with your heart... It's an emotional topsy-turvy book you wouldn't want to miss!I have never read a book such as this one. The story centralized on the hero/heroine's relationship with each other, which initally formed out of an obligatory deed then advance to the undeniable emotions of LOVE. There is nothing simple about this book though as Ral and Caryn's attachment to each other didn't come easy. There was lots of challenges: adjustments, learning and accepting each other's flaws, that needed to be overcome. Oh and how they have prevailed! Each obstacles that Ms. Kat Martin created here will make your heart ache. Yikes! I don't want to ruin it for other's who haven't read this book yet so I will hold myself back from mentioning a scene or two. You'll have to read it to find out. It will be more of a heart squeezer if you read it unprepared just as I have been. You will feel the pain and the relief as u read through it. Of course, like every other books, there's also some external conflicts such as villains, traitors, malady's and etc... but Ms. Martin uniquely compacted this novel more of internal clash that makes you thoroughly convinve of the character's love for each other. I love Caryn's spunk and innocence. The way she speaks her mind, her biting words when she is hurt... awww! Ral is just as great. He is strong yet gentle. He is firm yet forgiving. In the end, this book will make your heart soar with so much love for both Ral and Caryn. The secondary character's are as well formed and develop as the hero/heroine. I wish Ms. Martin will create a book for the mysterious Sir Gareth. Sequel for this novel is definitely A MUST. Do yourself a big favor and read BOLD ANGEL... I'll just hope you'll enjoy your day with a soaring heart just as I have :-)

more passion than drama,
By Amy (texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bold Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
"Bold Angel" is the story of Caryn, the daughter of a slain saxon lord in an Noram conquered england, and Ral, a Norman lord who now holds Caryn's father's land. Caryn was living in a convent when she's taken by lord malvern, Ral's rival, to Ral's holdings. Ral proposes that she marry him to save her from Malvern and so the story goes.Caryn is a fiery herione who follows the mold of petite leading lady for the bigger than life hero. It's an endearing match that leads to some interesting problems. This story is laced with conflict but it's more the emotional kind than any real actions. I found myself agreeing with both reviews that said this was a great book and those that said it had little action. Though Ral is a warlord of sorts the story mostly centers around Caryn and her relationship with Ral. This actually reminded me of a julie Garwood story in that respect. But this absence of violence didn't really detract from the story. Ral and Caryn's relationship is entertaining enough in itself with each one fighting desire for the other and both turning out to be passioante caring people. The secondary characters are compelling and are there to move the story along and add perspective rather than detract from the story or set up a sequel...though i would love to read Odo's story, ah well can't have everything. This is a nice work that is an enjoyable read...check it out but don't expect some sweeping war drama it's a little bit more fluff than that...it's a romance work. you know love and opptimism and all :)

Don't like Cheaters,
This review is from: Bold Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading seeing how everybody rated this book so high, I couldn't wait to read this book. Unfortunately, the rating was misleading because I didn't like this book at all. One of the main reason was because in the middle of the book, the hero cheats on the heroin after that I just couldn't forgive the hero for that therefore couldn't enjoy the book. I don't want to read about a cheating spouse and the hero's reason was so stupid too. What piss me off was that he excepted her to forgive him easily but yet in the end when the hero thinks heroin cheated on him towards the end of the book, he banishes her from their home; furthermore her hits the heroin for betraying/cheating him, which made me hated him even more. I also felt the ending was too rushed. I mean the conflict with that one guy (can't recall his name) was finished too fast and easily. The only reason I give this book even a one star was because I like Martin's style of writing and I think she is very talented.

THE BEST MEDIEVAL ROMANCE STORY EVER!!!!!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bold Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
I LOVED this book!! This is the BEST book I've ever read!! I have read and re-read this book so many times I've los count. I'm in love with Ral. And he is in love with his "Cara". I read this book about 2 years ago, and it's still my favorite. Because of this book, I've read all of Kat Martin's books, but to me none of them compare to this unforgettable love storie ( Dont get me wrong know, her other books are pretty good too). I mean I really felt hurt and betrayed when I saw him(in my mind) with Lynett(hope I spelled her name right. Gosh how I HATE her!) I also felt heart broken. And when he slapped Caryn, Wow did I feel that!! But I also felt his love and pain, and that is why I absalutely loved this book. It really plays with your emotions. I don't want to over paise this book, but I can't really help it. So, I hope I'm doing good instead of harm to someone who has not read it yet. I give this book 10 Stars! Like I said I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!

Bold Angel is NO disappointment!,

If you're a fan of medieval romances, you'll love this book.. of course, it's no "Knight in Shining Armor", but the characters, dialouge, plot.. there'll all top of the line. Kat Martin shines in this book and brings her characters to life. This book paints 11th century England like NO other I have ever read, and in that aspect, I strongly recommend it.

Did not care for this book,
By
This review is from: Bold Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
I read the reviews and thought I might really like this book. But I did not like Ral at all. Which ruined the whole book for me.After he married Caryn he cheated on her most of the first half of the book for the stupidest reasons. To show he didn't really care! Well that was rather obvious! And the whole time he was doing it he was thinking of her of-course... yeah right! (You know what I would do to my husband if he fed me that line of bull after I found out he kept cheating on me!) Ral also in the book, would think to himself it is a mans right to bed anyone he pleases, whenever he pleases (all he really cared about was sex) But Caryn was not to even cast eyes upon another man.Bah! The way that Ral was portrayed in this book... he was selfish demanding and uncaring, and I never got the feeling he would be faithful for long, Caryn wouldn't be young or beautiful forever, what then? Also, I did not like it when he slapped her around, knocking her to the floor. He sure wasn't my idea of love and a happily ever after man!

A huge hero and a heroine half his size? No, thanks!,
This review is from: Bold Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
I didn't like it that the hero was HUGE. I could stand it if it was only mentioned once, but it was mentioned all the time! How big he was, how tall, how broad, how he would rip the heroine (who was less than half his size) in two with his passionate assaults... Horrible. I had the feeling that I was reading a love story of a giant and a dwarf.I could survive their physical appearance if their characters were any better. But they weren't. The heroine was so stubborn I wanted to strangle her. The hero was a brute and an ogre. He went to his mistress on his wedding night and several times later. Ugh! Ok, the heroine deserved it in a way with her pushing him away and ignoring him, but still. The hero was unable to accept his feelings for her. But in a way, this is a middle age romance and not a regency romance, so I suppose that life was a bit different back then... But all things considered, this isn't one of Kat Martin's better works. Try Gipsy lord instead;)

Kat Martin has done it again with this book. Another one of her best work! I couldn't put this one down until I read the whole thing. It's books like this that makes Kat Martin one of my favorite writers. I'd read this one a few more times because I enjoyed it so.
