Book Description

July 2004
Debby shows how the ebony connection communicates drama and rich texture, features ordinary items in unusual settings, and stimulates the eye by presenting the unexpected. No wonder black has been used successfully by quilters as far back as we have samples of surviving quilts! This book is dedicated to the premise that some of the traditional patterns can be sewn in quicker, more streamlined methods. Debby's innovative projects include a quick appliqu method that bypasses the use of freezer paper and a technique for using coffee filters for curved blocks. She proclaims the wonder of math with easy formulas for making any block with squares, triangles, and rectangles. AUTHORBIO: Debby Kratovil is a quilting teacher and prolific writer. She has been special projects editor for Quilt Magazine for ten years and says she enjoys teaching through the written word. Debby shares her patterns and techniques on her Web site, www.quilterbydesign.com, one of the oldest quilting sites on the Internet. Debby has been dubbed the 'power quilter' by her friends for the sheer number of quilts she makes. She is always motivated by the challenge of a new design and it execution in fabric.

Black is back. I liked it. It is a unique approach and unlike most quilt books.

I was disappointed. I love quilts with black backgrounds, but, this just didn't do it for me.
