4.0 out of 5 stars Presently Surprised!!!, November 3, 2008
This review is from: Bold Right Life (Audio CD)
I first want to applaud Ki Ki because she kept JESUS the central focus of this cd. I have been noticing a pattern of "gospel" artist leaving the message of gospel out. I was happy when I heard this cd because the latest Mary mary cd fell victim to the "barely having Jesus on cd" syndrome as well as others... I'm just glad that she showed that you can have nice beats, a youthful sound, and still include the message of Jesus.

This is Ki Ki's most Jesus centered cd she has made so far and the music is great as well : ) There are tracks with nice beats that you can dance to ( first 2 tracks right out the gate). Then it has some songs where the songs are more worship centered and the lyrics are beautiful. I already knew that Ki Ki could sing, but there is something different about this cd... her voice sounds really beautiful on some of the slower tracks but I think it is the sincerity in her voice that I really liked.

One of my favorite tracks is a song called invisible, because I think it is a message that needs to be said much more. It is not about us, but about GOD being seen and that is what the focus of that song is... The only other song that I have heard that really caputres that message is Jason Upton Dying Star (yea that was a little plug lol).

Anyway this is a good cd, with nice beats and STILL maintains a gospel message. YAY KI KI LOL

5.0 out of 5 stars First gospel album all year that I just HAD to write a review for..., November 20, 2008
This review is from: Bold Right Life (Audio CD)
Don't get me wrong, traditional music lovers. I love traditional gospel too! But I'm one of those out-the-box gospel music lovers who believes that gospel music doesn't have to be a boring, predictable, beat-less, softie's humdrum of anti-creativity.

Which is why, while I appreciate all kinds of gospel music, I tend to enjoy the non-traditional sounds the most - the ones that don't require a trained ear in churchy music to enjoy. Again, this is not meant to incite or lambast traditionalists; you say "tomato", I say "tomatoe"; everyone's ear for music is different, and mine happens to be more new-generatiion hip-hop/R&B, if you will.

That said, I cannot believe how good Miss Kierra's CD is. (Well, I CAN believe it - we always knew she had it in her - but you know what I mean :) I mean, I could sincerely tell a non-churched friend who is into some of these R&B artists out here, look, if you like Beyonce or Jazmine or Keri, you will LOVE this CD, as a matter of fact you might even like it better!
But the powerful thing is, the message of the gospel is clear as crystal, unlike other similar contemporary gospel CDs. Kierra has managed to combined trendy tracks and hot vocals with a bold declaration about Jesus, and she also has something for everyone from die-hard contemporary R&B fans like myself to traditional gospel music fans in the vein of something her powerhouse mom would do.

Needless to say, I would highly recommend this album if it's the only contemporary gospel album you get all year. Congrats KIKI on a stunning 3rd album!

She is never a dissappointment. I enjoyed this album. You can tell that she has matured. There are songs that may have to 'grow' on me, but all in all - very well put together. I love the last song "J-E-S-U-S" - it's so heart-felt... and i love it when artists arent afraid to call on His name again and again. The album is very well produced, and songs are well written. I would recommend this album !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars No one who knows me would mistake me for a practicing Christian but..., December 26, 2008

No one who knows me even fleetingly would mistake me for a practicing Christian, so as someone who is very into music (composes/DJs) but picks up almost no gospel on average, saying that I found this CD not only worth buying but recommending to general audiences is a big deal.

This CD is well-produced, the songs are very strong and Sheard can sing rings around a LOT of people. The thing that compelled me to pick it up was how contemporary and fresh it sounded. She could have a number of these songs on mainstream radio, and she does so without losing her purpose and going off mission to sell it without the God garnish. The music is Grammy-ready, and could have easily been about the same junk that's all over the radio now. Sheard gives us an album that confronts what not only do-gooders are sick of, but people who listen to the radio are sick of too: bad music. If Beyonce made a gospel record, it'd come close to this (though Sheard would likely come out on top because, you know, gospel isn't just a flavor for her).

If you only buy one gospel record this year - or in recent memory - get this one. She'll have you bumping the car at max and smiling about it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A voice of her own, December 16, 2008
This review is from: Bold Right Life (Audio CD)
She follows a wonderful legacy of women in the gospel music arena and now she has a voice of her own. You can hear her creativity and youthfulness in the songs but you still have that Clark family impact in her delivery of the songs. Very much a youth centered album as far as the beats go makes you wana dance

5.0 out of 5 stars Praise GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, November 17, 2008
This review is from: Bold Right Life (Audio CD)
Thank you KIKI for not being afraid of letting people know that you are a child of the most high God. This cd is so good and anoiting. My two daughters who are 7 & 5 love your Raise your Banner. You keep it up and watch God bless you even more. I wish some of these veterans gospel singers would listen to your cd and relize that you can have the beats and the banging sounds without putting Jesus in the background and using Love as a replacement. Your are well grounded and you know that it's not about you, but about Jesus.

5.0 out of 5 stars KiKi is back!, November 14, 2008
This review is from: Bold Right Life (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of KiKi even before she came out wit her debut cd in 2004. Through each cd, she's grown spiritually and musicially, and each album reflects that. I Owe You was mainly a PAJAM deal, which was good. This Is Me seemed more of a departure from the mold of that album and we got to hear a lot more of Kierra's own writing. Bold Right Life goes hard with the first two tracks "Won't Hold Back", and "Wave Your Banner" (which features some guest vocals by Mary Mary) starting a up-tempo praise party. "Boyfriend" is one of the songs I thought that could've been done a little better. It's a decent song, but the sound of the bridge section is a little "over-produced" for me. I'm kind of lost until the chorus kicks back in. "Invisible" is one of the best cuts on here...it talks about how we need to move out of the way so that Christ can shine through us so much that it's as if we're invisible. Another thing I like about this song is that it has a CCM feel. "Love Like Crazy" is a nice one. You can tell Warryn "Baby Dubb" Campbell produced on it. "Like David" seems like a song Kierra's mother, Karen Clark Sheard would do, but it still works just as well for her. "Praise Him Now" is an amazing praise anthem. It follows in the footsteps of many other PAJAM produced praise-and-worship songs, but Kierra takes it and makes it her own. "Oh Lord" rolls right out of the last track very nicely...another song that ushers you into worshiping and praising God. "If It Had Not Been" and "One" bring the contemporary vibe back the the cd again, and "Jesus" closes out the cd with an acoustic meditative praise song. Yep, this one's my favorite! Once again it brings a CCM feel to the cd, and Kierra's voice particularly shines in this song. This is a great cd, and if you enjoy contemporary and praise and worship gospel...you need to cop this!

4.0 out of 5 stars Kierra's Best Thus Far!, November 4, 2008
This review is from: Bold Right Life (Audio CD)
I have been listening to this CD for the past 3days straight and I have not gotton sick of it yet! This is definitely a cd for the young and young at heart! A few songs remind you of her very first CD (maybe two), but the rest have different sounds. My favorite is the rock infused (Invisible. It's not just another entertaining comtemporary gospel cd that make you move, the words actually have meaning! Kierra's voice has matured so much a few times you hear momma Karen's influence!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for the Title ALONE!, September 24, 2009
This review is from: Bold Right Life (Audio CD)
I hope Kiki reads these reviews. When I first saw the title of the album I got happy. It is good to see young artists taking a stand. On the music side, there are 3 songs that stood out. Love Like Crazy, If it had not been for the Lord and Praise Him Now (which XM/SIRIUS plays all the time). Kiki will always be my favorite artist. She is one of a very few people that you hear her love for God in her voice. Keep on singing Kiki! I will be waiting for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jammin Gospel CD!, September 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bold Right Life (Audio CD)
This is by far one of the best gospel cd's I've purchased in a while. Kierra worked with some great producers who hooked her up with some nice tracks. I jam it in my car, on my laptop and while I'm cleaning. It's a must have for today's youth.
