5.0 out of 5 stars Warp 11, March 15, 2005
This review is from: Boldly Go Down On Me (Audio CD)
"Boldly Go" has lyrics that are funny, but the songs don't have to rely on the lyrics being funny. They don't have to rely on the lyrics being funny because the songs sounds so great. This isn't just some simple beat that is put down, just as background music for lyrics that will make you snicker a few times. No, these songs on "Boldly Go", starting with "She Make it So", are great sounding songs, with sometimes silly and sometimes dark lyrics that touch base with many of us who have a great love and understanding of Star Trek while also a love for hard rocking. It is Warp 11's finest album to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars At Last!!, March 15, 2005

This review is from: Boldly Go Down On Me (Audio CD)
The fans of Warp 11 have been screaming for a new album for well over a year, and it has finally arrived.

Those who are new to the Warp 11 experience will either love them or hate them, but you have to admire their determination to crank out 3 full albums of Star Trek based rock music (and oh so many more songs that have never been recorded).

Whether you truly appreciate their homage to Star Trek or not, there are songs for you (Prime Example - A Song for People who never watch Star Trek). Fans of Star Wars over Star Trek will appreciate Captain Caught me on the Holodeck - showing that Warp 11 obeys no boundaries when poking fun at themselves and the rest of sci-fi geekdom.

The most important addition to this album, something I feel that was not nearly as prevalent in their previous works, is the raw emotion evinced in the songs.

Invasion evokes the dreamy images of benevolent invaders who only want what is best for us.

Welcome to Our Cube provides a stark contrast in tone, bringing out feelings of isolation and helplessness even in the midst of a collective community.

She Make it So is happy and upbeat, while My Electric Man and Set Your Phasers for F*** emit raw, unbridled passion and sexual energy.

Finally, I have to say my single favorite song on the album is Kill, Kill, Kill, Kill, Kill, Kill, Klingons. It'll get stuck in your head, too. Beware.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Bold New Experience, March 19, 2005
This review is from: Boldly Go Down On Me (Audio CD)
For those fans who have been looking for a new sound to groove to, look no further!

Warp 11's third album is amazing! From beginning to end, it will have you shaking you bod and rockin' the galaxy! My personal favorite is Invasion - a dreamy, trancy movement that drives me to dance. Of course, if you are a fan of the sound of songs like "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison, you will fall in love with a Man On A Mission. And the gyration inspiring vocals of Kiki Stockhammer on Electric Man will drive any woman in a frenzy of passion for a yellow-skinned android.

Beyond the music, the stark minimalism of the cover design was so different and so powerful. It draws my eyes like no album cover I have EVER seen (and I own over 300 albums and worked in a music store so that has to say something).

This album more than exceeded my expectations, as I know it will yours. Don't waste anymore time in prevarication. Get your copy now before there are none left to get. Seriously!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars "A Star Trek tribute band? That'll never catch on, will it?", April 7, 2005

This review is from: Boldly Go Down On Me (Audio CD)
ok, so it probably won't appeal to many non-star trek fans, but BGDOM in by far Warp 11's best album to date.

They seem to have mellowed somewhat from the early days of Suck my Spock, and have taken inspiration from all over the rock world for their third album.

I hear Tom Petty, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, REM and more...

It may have been over a year since the last album, but the quality makes it worth the wait.

Seriously. It really is good listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Star Trek music, it's music about Star Trek, April 17, 2009

(REAL NAME)
I used to listen to Dr. Demento, so I'm familiar with the "Star Trek music" out there.

"There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow..."

"Do the Picard. Picard, Picard YEAH YEAH!"

So, I was a little skeptical about this Warp 11 band when I first heard about them. Then I tracked down their video for "She Makes It So" on YouTube, and was blown away. This is real music, hard rock with a punk side, about Star Trek.

The Trek folks recalculated the warp scale between the original series (hallowed be its name) and The Next Generation to make 10 the fastest warp speed possible. But, like Nigel's amplifier, THIS one goes to 11, and the Warp 11 crew does everything over-the-top. The outfits are over-the-top, the sex is over-the-top, and the lines about Chekov screaming are over the top.

Sex, Trek, and Rock & Roll. Hey, that has a nice ring to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warp 11 Rocks Yet Again!, August 10, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Boldly Go Down On Me (Audio CD)
Warp 11's follow up to "Red Alert", in my opinion, is Warp 11's greatest record to date. Every single song on the album is just brillian and could all be hit singles. It has the right mix of Rock, Scifi and humor and really does come out gold. The songs are so great, I have a hard time deciding which five songs really stood out. The five songs on this album that really stood out for me are; "She Make It So", "Kill Kill Kill Kill Klingons", "Give It Up For The Captain", "Man on a Mission" and "Captain Caught Me On The Holodeck".

"She Make It So" is about the dream girl that every guy wants. You can't listen to this song and not think of the really great music video. The two definitely go hand in hand. It is real punk rock and a great starter for the album.

I'm a sucker for ballads and acoustic soft Rock songs, that's why "Kill Kill Kill Kill Klingons" really spoke to me. With a title like that, you wouldn't think of what this song sounds like. It really is a nice little tune that has great music and a catchy/memorable hook.

It is hard to understand the words completely unless you read along, but "Give It Up For The Captain" still rocks. Another great example of a song that gets stuck in your head and that you sing to yourself while in the shower!

"Man On A Mission" is arguably my favorite Warp 11 song of all time! It is definitely their most beautiful song. From lyrics that really paint a picture in my mind when I hear it, to the music, the song is definitely my favorite ballad they have ever done. This could also be considered the best song on the album, I can listen to this song a hundred times and never get tired of it.

"Captain Caught Me On The Holodeck" is a simple song about a guy that is afraid of his captain when he is caught playing with Star Wars toys! During the song, he thinks of every single thing that can happen to him for playing with Star Wars toys on the Enterprise! This song is another really funny story with a funny ending.

Overall, this album is a must have for fans and definitely a great one to start with if you have never heard them before. They sound great

4.0 out of 5 stars Breaking the Final Frontier, April 2, 2007
This review is from: Boldly Go Down On Me (Audio CD)
I'll cut to the chase, Warp 11 find some way of mixing star trek and rock in a way that is not only unique, but downright catchy. Their lyrics are clever and providing a great variety of style from track to track makes it feel fresh even after many listenings.
