4.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to New Port City, July 27, 2006
By
Joshua Koppel (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Bomb Queen Volume 1: Woman Of Mass Destruction (Paperback)
Bomb Queen is a true villain but she has managed to capture the imagination of New Port City. New Port City is under the control of Bomb Queen although there is an elected mayor. Now a new candidate wants the job of mayor and plans to get rid of Bomb Queen. But in this city Bomb Queen is almost a living icon and that means there will be trouble ahead.

Bomb Queen is the remaining member of a group of Queens. She happily goes through her city blowing things up with skilled explosives. The city is hero-free and crime is up but kept at bay in crime zones where just about anything goes. But as the mayoral race heats up and a new hero comes to town Bomb Queen may find her personality is a little too hot-headed to maintain her popularity. But this is her city and she will do what she feels she has to in order to keep it.

This is not a Comics Code hero story. Bomb Queen wantonly kills and the art is filled with blood and gore. Nudity and strong sexual references may be more than some are looking for. But if you are looking for a mix of cartoon and grit then this might be right up your alley. But is blood, sex and gore are not your cup of tea when you open a comic, you should probably avoid this one. You decide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bomb Queen = Awesome, May 15, 2008

I'm writing a review for every one of the Bomb Queen books because I truly love them all so much. I hope Jimmie Robinson reads this so he knows that he has fans that love his work and efforts (thanks Jimmie!)

If you're tired of the typical super hero in spandex who holds back his/her tongue and or displays of violence to maintain that goody two shoes image like I certainly am - then please my friends, look into this series.

Bomb Queen is everything a super hero is not - mostly. She's the villain, she's way sexier than any other chick in comics because of not only her garb but her attitude - she makes it no secret that she loves sex but Jimmie writes her in such a way that she comes across as such a bad @$$ and not some cheap hussy who just kills people.

See its like this: when you watch porn (bear with me!) you expect sex, you expect raunchiness so nothing is shocking nothing is taboo nothing really sets itself apart from the rest of the genre. Now, if you watch a major motion picture and theres a sex scene or even a brief scene where today's hottest actress flashes a little boob then its a real treat - you're not supposed to see that - it was sensual and secret.

Same thing here - if this comic series were porn or slasher/horror - it wouldnt be THAT great - but its not! True, its for mature readers, but it pushes the envelope just enough to be the best in its class before being just another T&A one trick pony.

The writing is also really fantastic - very real, and very natural. People don't talk the way superheros in other comics talk on a daily basis, "what do you mean the transistor doesnt connect! Call the president, Zorban the terrible shall not stand in our way again!"

yeah right.

It's easy to relate to Bomb Queen - as crazy as that sounds. I don't mean murder, rape, felonious crimes, etc. I mean Bomb Queen is the bad @$$ we all want to be - she says what we don't have the cojones to say and she can back it up with some serious moves. She commands respect and shes just funny.

Check it out if you like good comics. If you like crappy, non-original and bland comics please never pick this comic up in your entire life.

5.0 out of 5 stars It blew me away, July 29, 2006
This review is from: Bomb Queen Volume 1: Woman Of Mass Destruction (Paperback)
This comic was definately a change of pace for me. Never before have I seen a comic where a bombshell of a lady just blows people left and right without a care. The fight scenes are interesting how she mixes explosives with acrobatics, and proves that the bad guy can fight intelligently and win as well. I'd like to see more of her!
