desventajas de un "bootleg oficial",
By Ruben Pineda Robles (Hermosillo,Mexico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bombay Calling (DVD)

When A Blind Man Cries,
By Marc Kammersgaard (Denmark) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bombay Calling (DVD)
This DVD has variating quality, due to the tape (recorded from the concert) used to create the DVD. This however is not a problem, because the important songs has very good quality (Child In Time). Most of the best songs are included. I especially like The song "When A Blind Man Cries", because Steve Morse really gets the guitar solo right. It will change your mood, that's how beautiful the solo is.

Transitional concert,

A good show. It was transitional - this was before their Purpendicular album was finished, and after the Battle Rages On tour. Some of the songs from the Battle tour were still being played : Battle Rages On, Anya, Child in Time, When a Blind Man Cries, etc. There is one song from the upcoming album - 'Purpendicular Waltz', but in a semi-complete form. So, it has elements of their prior tour, and elements of their forthcoming one. They don't play 'Child' or 'Anya' much anymore, so to hear those with Steve Morse is pretty cool.

Inferior quality,
By Anton L. (Manila, Philippines) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bombay Calling (DVD)
Blackmore's gone and Morse is in. What do you expect from the guys? A blast? No. Purple is back doing their "The Battle Rages on" tour setlist with a few new songs completing the set. The video started with the interview with the band and suddenly "Fireball" just started while Morse is talking. The sound is thin and very low in mix. You'll see Morse still adjusting with the band and he failed, most notably "Child in Time" and "Anya". The camera shots were poorly executed! Missing a lot of solos from Jon Lord. It's kind of pricy for this kind of DVD (Well this DVD was re-produced this year and the Korean concert was included and they beefed up the sound from a mere 2 ch stereo to 5.1 dolby surrounds). Get the Total Abandon DVD if you're looking for a great viewing pleasure.

Best Version of Blind Man Cries,
By KrazyD "KD" (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews

This concert has the Best version of When a Blind Man Cries..and the solo is just amazing...with all the Volume Swelling its one of the sweetest solo..ever. This has made me a fan of Volume swelling to get the emotional twist. All of their other major hits are pretty much there for the Deep Purple fans.

Deep Purple - New, Live and Rare: A great DVD that covers DP from 1984 to 2003.Deep Purple: Come Hell or High Water: I've had trouble with this one due to Blackmore acting up on stage. Deep Purple Live in Australia 1999 - Total Abandon (2000): One of my favorite DVD concerts. Period! Deep Purple - Live at Montreux 1996 (2006): Get Total Abandon 1st, if you want MORE DP after that, buy this one. Very good flim quality and another great DP concert. Bombay Calling (2000): I was unsure about buying this one due to the (bootleg) film quality of this one. It don't matter - it's still a great concert & filmed in HD. Sure, the lighting is a little low at times, but hey, it's a live act. If you like Total Adandon & Montreux 1996 & still need your DP fix, get this one too. I've watched it a couple of times now & Bombay has grown on me. The live version of "Smoke on The Water" is simply stunning. I'm giving it 5 stars due to the fact that I plan on watching this one many times. This concert will be like an old friend to me. DP does a lot of the same concert songs on their DVD's, but every live version sounds fresh & new to me. These guy's are one of the greatest rock groups ever in my book. Now if DP would just release their 1996 Moscow concert........

Thanks for Playing in India!!,

Sure, the other reviewer is spot on!! The recordings are pretty awkward in several places. But for Deep Purple fans like me, it was still a wonderful concert. Darn! The band seems young in this. Is it just me who thinks this???Someone should also thank DP for touring in India. They have fans all over the world. But its hard for developing countries to attract some 1st World bands. I think mostly cus the fans can't pay as much, so many bands don't go there.

The Video Quality on this DVD is very poor....I believe it was not their intent to record this Program. The Sound is PCM Stereo...and the Technical Review here fails to mention it.You might as well have bought an Audio CD !!!! Dont touch it if you value your money

This is an excellent work from DP. Everybody is great, great , great. Steve Morse replaced Ritchie successfuly. I always enjoyed DP and they are the only band that I still listen to since 1984 (I was 18), especially these days when you cannot find ANY good hard rock around you. The only thing that was really really bad that ruined my joy, and it is not DP fault, was that the people from India who were doing the Video recording. They were the wosrt ever. They where showing the audiance when they should have shown Lord for example. They showed Glover when the supposed to show Morse and so on. More of the good work DP. Bravo

Deep Purple has always been a favourite band but when they re-grouped without Blackmore, I couldn't help wonder whether it would be the same. New kid Steve Morse was a pleasant surprise. While no-one can quite outshine Richie, Steve has an electrifying style of his own that has give new Deep Purple a different but altogether enjoyable sound.
