Originally released in 1979,'Bomber' was Lemmy and crew's second album.Basically another top-of-the-heap serving of British metal-punk(as some might call it).Heck,I'll always refer to it as heavy metal.No matter what you tag it as,it's prime Motorhead;ALL the freakin' way,mate!Key tracks include "Dead Men Tell No Tales","Sharpshooter"(perhaps,a love song?),my favorite "Stone Deaf Forever",the title cut "Bomber" and "Leaving Here".This reissue tags on five(5)beloved bonus songs to lure us to purchase a copy.Pretty sneaky,eh?Recommended.

this album by no means has the speed of "overkill" or "ace of spades" but "bomber" has the grooviest, hook laden motorhead songs ever devised, just listen to "sharp shooter" or "lawman" to see what i mean, motorheads best songwritting is on hear.
this album prooves speed isn't everything, even for a band like motorhead, don't get me wrong, there are a couple fast ones but this album isn't based on speed like "overkill" or "ace of spades" was, its more about songwritting and cathy riffs. this is by far motorheads best album, this is the only thing from them i need, and i consider myself a fan too. lemmy fr***ing rocks on this "like a sniper, i got my sights on you!, windsheild wiper, nothing spoiling my view!" where else can you hear something like that now? even on a m'head record, gotta love that now. this album just has a different feel to it then any thing they have done before or after this, this came out in late 79, why doesn't this album get attention like ace or overkill do? my final verdict is that while "bomber" might not be as fast as "overkill" "ace of spades" or "iron fist" it makes up for it whith some of the best motorhead songs ever written like "all the aces" and "stone dead forever" amoung others, lemmy is a true lawman, rock on!

Much under-rated follow-up to Overkill, and precursor to the seminal Ace Of Spades, this was the album that introduced me to the 'head, curteousy of the single of the same name, which charted in '79. At the time, its rawness and blistering energy surpassed that of all the punk rock of the previous years, whilst simultaneously showing up so-called "heavy metal" bands for the ... poseurs they were (except maybe Iron Maiden, with Paul Di'Anno).

I saw them countless times, because they were a) AWESOME live, b) sold tickets very cheaply and c) played smaller venues, like Reading University, which made it easier to get to see the band. I got my vinyl copy of this album signed at that gig!

Not as fast overall as Overkill, this album nonetheless maintains an aphetamine-fuelled sheen that may require a few listens to "get". Every bit as perfect in conception as previous and later albums (from "On Parole" right up to "Iron Fist"), this collection includes the mighty "Over The Top" (B-side to the Bomber single), and a few examples of why Motorhead were/are so great live.

Once you've heard it, listen to it again. And again. It's not an immediate album, but then many of the best aren't. High points; Dead Men Tell No Tales, Stone Dead Forever, Bomber, Over The Top.

There's no such thing as a bad Motorhead album. The original line up with fast Eddie and Philthy is impossible to beat in the heavy metal realm. Bomber is my least favorite of the Eddie/Phil classic era, but it's still a freakin' fantastic record. I like Ace of Spades, Over Kill, and Iron Fist better, but this is also a must have for Motor heads.

Standout tracks: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Stone Dead Forever

Motorhead was probably the nastiest, loudest and bombastic band to ever emerge from the British punk scene, although they are not a punk band per se. What attracted metal fans and punks alike was a stripped down fast loud approach to balls-to-the-wall rock and roll - punky spirit with metal's chops.
'Bomber', the third assault by this three man panzer division, is a must have for those who still prefer the old classic lineup days with Fast Eddie Clarke and Philthy Animal Taylor alongside Lemmy Kilmister, now the only original member left.
Clarke especially gave Motorhead its signature sound with huge fat guitars and bluesy leads that added some class to the mix. Not that this meant Motorhead were anything but fast, loud and crude. It is incredible to remember that 1979 saw 'Overkill' and 'Bomber' in the stores alongside disco, the BeeGees, and other horrible acts too numerous to mention.
"Stone Dead Forever" and the title track are just two gems on this punishing CD. Fans will delight to the retakes and live cuts on the bonus CD, which sound better than the bonus tracks on 'Ironfist'. It's migraine inspiring, rude and perfect for ruining anybody's day who isn't a Motorheadbanger.

This is a very similar album to Iron Fist, in the sense that it too was the follow-up of an absolute classic Motorhead album (Overkill cq Ace of Spades), in the sense that it too was thrown on the market too hastily and in the sense that it too contains too many fillers to be a really strong album. Sad but true, it was this sloppiness in putting out records that explains to a large degree why Motorhead never became as big as Maiden or Priest.

This said, three of the best Motortunes ever are on this CD. The live sensation Bomber, the awesome Stone Dead Forever (in my top-5 of all-time best Motorhead songs), and the slow paced, chilling Lawman should feature in every metal / punk / rock enthousiast's iPod collection. Enough reasons to buy the CD? Sure, but not before you've bought Overkill, Ace of Spades, Another Perfect Day, Inferno, On Parole and Orgasmatron.

Don't let yourself be guided by someone that says "bomber could have carried with the motorhead tradition ", the album simply does not have to carry any tradition because along with "motorhead","overkill","ace of spades" & "iron fist" the TRADITION WAS CREATED!, the album was originally released between "overkill" & "ace of spades" so it is the official 3rd mayor release for the motorhead boys, and it is simply excellent crafted, it has a variety in the aspect that there are some slower songs, but if you think it well, "motorhead"(their first album) has more slower songs; Some people has no respect for the elders, maybe they have heard the latest albums of this band and think that band always sounded the same even when they were in the 70's(the sound of the music is heavier now, but excellent as ever with a classic rocknroll feeling). For you music intellectuals, THERE IS NOT any band of the 80's famous heavy metal genre, even the first bands playing black metal, thrash metal, etc. that has not been influenced by motorhead, black sabbath, iron maiden, judas priest, deep purple, pink floyd, and others that made history and now are the granddaddy of them, but people cannot see it because they were born when everything was already invented!.

Released a little over six months after their breakthrough LP `Overkill', Motorhead ushered `Bomber' onto an unsuspecting market place and the momentum that had building for a year and a half continued to grow as the new record crashed into the UK Top Ten. To say that `Bomber' was little more than part 2 of its landmark predecessor would be highly inaccurate and a little unfair as the latter album had more mid-tempo numbers as opposed to all out thrash. It also contained more than a bit of social commentary as lead track "Dead Men Tell No Tales" would speak of the dangers of heroin while "Poison" seemed to illustrate the difficult relationships Lemmy has had with women and his father. "Lawman" and "Bomber" were history lessons while "Step Down" was a slow blues featuring Eddie Clarke on lead vocals. I do like `Overkill' better and `Ace of Spades' is certainly the best of this mighty trilogy but with songs such as the previously mentioned plus `Stone Dead Forever' than `Bomber' ain't exactly the weak sister of this group. While they may have not been officially a part of the NWOBHM, the movement might never have existed in the first place without Motorhead leading the way with their one-two punch of 1979. Whatever happened to your life? Well if you were around the British metal clubs of the late seventies, then your eardrums were most likely brutalized by the most notorious trio of the era - Lemmy, Eddie and Philthy!

I read others comments before buying this album, people gave it s***t for not living up to Overkill guess what... it surpasses it!! Stone Dead Forever, Bomber, Sharpshooter, Dead men tell no tales, Over the top, Plus the live version of a few of the songs. There both great albums, and if your a fan of the golden years of Motorhead(Lemmy, Philthy, Eddie) youl love em! Buy both! But buy Bomber first!!

This album is one of their best albums. All the songs are very cool and they play in their unique rock style. The melodies and the lyrics are very very good and its an album that you will like surely. Its not so good as Ace Of Spades (One of my best top 5 albums overall and a masterpiece) but closer. Just buy the cd.
