4.0 out of 5 stars Take a deep breath and relax a little.
This game came out originally a LONG time ago, Bomberman that is.

This game is based on the original concept, they tried some new things and if you play with an open mind, they succeeded. It really should be an arcade download, but its not, big whoop. Just means I gotta spend a few seconds to switch ti around. The only real flaw... no ones online playing...

1.0 out of 5 stars A Puzzle Game Gone Wrong, September 2, 2006
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bomberman Act: Zero (Video Game)
I loved the original Bomberman games. It was a great strategy game - you had to set up bomb patterns to blow out walls and destroy enemies. Then came the XBox 360 version.

I was really looking forward to a fun, engrossing strategy game that I could play for hours on end. I don't mind "dark" games so choosing between a male and female somber, realistic looking robot didn't bother me much. You can choose from a few colors to "highlight" their metallic outfits as well. Then you head onto the playing grid.

Suddenly the game is far less fun. I realize it's about grids, it's about thinking out your moves since you can only move at a certain speed. You have to try to lure your opponent into a trapped location so that you can blast them into oblivion. However, because of the camera angles, the unnecessary excess graphic items and the darkness, it tries to seem more like a first person shooter. The slow pace of your character, instead of being a normal part of the strategy, now seems unnecessary and annoying. You can't always see what you're trying to do.

Maybe the sound could have been the saving grace - but if anything, it makes the game far, far worse. The incredibly tinny, robotic voice that gives you a status at the end of each level is perhaps the most annoying voice I have ever heard in a game. It almost makes you want to deliberately lose, so you don't have to hear the winning commentary.

The irony is that usually we only buy games we really expect to want to play and replay. We rent the rest so that we can review them thoroughly, play through once, and then send the game back again. We thought this would be a keeper - we were told it'd be a lot of fun - but as it turns out we had to force ourselves to play it.

If you're a fan of the Bomberman series, then there are numerous games from before the XBox 360 which are great fun to play and replay. Get your hands on those, enjoy them for the fun puzzle worlds they provide, and avoid this misguided latest version.

Not recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a god awful game!, September 1, 2006

= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bomberman Act: Zero (Video Game)
I won a copy of this game in what now has turned out to be the worst contest ever. There is no reason this game should be on the 360, the graphics are not in any way "next-gen". The new dark look is pretty ridiculous and completely unnecessary. I enjoyed the old bomberman games, they are fun and light, in their own blowing-up-other-people kind of way. This game is needlessly serious. As for the gameplay, it feels like wading through level after level of randomly generated and arbitrarily more or less difficult nonsense. Plus, there is no way to play multiplayer on one xbox. Why?!
Please don't buy this game... they might be tempted to make a sequel.

This is the worse Bomberman game ever. Don't buy it!!! There are only battles with one arena. The stages are setup so you fight one person on the first round, two people in the second and so on.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Disgrace to the Bomberman Franchise, December 24, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bomberman Act: Zero (Video Game)
Act Zero means it deserves a Zero star rating. However, if I could give it zero stars, then I'd want to give it a negative star. It is without a doubt the worst Bomberman game in the franchise, surpassing the horrible Atomic Bomberman on the PC from the early '90s. The game suffers from unbearably long load times between rounds that interrupt any enjoy that could have been had for the 3rd person perspective.

There is one reason, and only one, to try this game. It belongs on the list of all-time, worst video games with the likes of ET on the Atari 2600 and Superman for the N64. True gamers need to check these games out for themselves.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's Bomberman, but it lacks almost any features., May 13, 2009
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bomberman Act: Zero (Video Game)
This game fails in a different way from most games that you'd see as a low overall rating. Most 1-2 star games would be really cheap and glitchy and frustrating. Bomberman isn't any of those things. The problem is simply that it's missing features.

The game actually plays pretty much the same as a typical Bomberman game. The 3D mode is absolutely horrible and makes the game more difficult than it needs to be, however there's no reason you ever need to use 3D mode. If you play 2D classic view, the rules are the same as they always were. You place bombs in a grid and try to defeat opponents. You can collect powerups that significantly enhance your abilities.

It doesn't have local multiplayer, though, which takes away its ability to be a party game. Lacking that, you need to seek out online play, but finding a game online will be almost impossible.

Interestingly, the single player is a bit better than traditional Bomberman games, but not by much, and Bomberman was never played for its single player. Single player is a survival test through a hundred levels, and it's very possible and not that frustrating to master. Once you learn the powerups and strategies to kill the other Bombermen, you might even have a good time for a couple hours. Key word here is "might". Probably not.

In the end, despite my trying to be positive and objective, there's little reason to buy this. It's mediocre at best, and most people will find it offensively lacking. It's not even good for achievement nuts, since all of those are impossible to get without many months of dedication.

This review is from: Bomberman Act: Zero (Video Game)
Ok I have heard a lot of bad things about this game for critics and fellow gamers and during all this I keep thinking "Aw come on be easy on it it's not that bad is it?" Well I picked up a used copy for 3 bucks and to my suprise I was right it wasn't that bad. This game may be different from the rest of the series but that dosen't mean it's bad. I will at admit there are a few bad things:One life no continues and 99 levels come one, two the voice acting sucks, three the graphics are not to great oh and little to no plot .Good things:the music is ok,the weapons are pretty cool and even thought it is not the bomberman we all know and love he is pretty cool.So bottom line:THIS IS MY OPINION NOT FACT!!!!! and I say check it out but don't except to reach the end of the game.

1.0 out of 5 stars Major dissapointment!, February 16, 2007
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bomberman Act: Zero (Video Game)
I was hoping this would have a deeper story line.
But it has no story line at all.
You just kill off the other opponents that gets very repetitive and boring after playing for just an hour.
Dissapointed tha this has not story portian to it!

I am glad that I at least rented this game from GameFly and not actualy bought it.
And I agree this game should have been an XBox Live Marketplace game!
This is the worst game for a next gen console ever! :(
Advice: Don't buy this game ever!

The AI acts like real people, for the most part, sadly, its not very greedy til level 5.

It is a good game if you take a second to admire the fact they revived the original version of the game story wise and finally filled people in a bit on its past.

Anyways, a few new concepts, health and blocking, or classic mode, you can get it as cheap as [...] bucks as of now on amazon, so think of it like an arcade title, spend your 800 points AND PURCHASE!
