Wow this is great! Jason Martin and his lovely female counterpart produce pure pop genius music. I can't get enough listens, like crack that is mellow surf guitars and a Harriet Wheeler clone. Why this band is ignored much like Starflyer only shows the pure pop idol brainwashed public that we have become, but there is hope, listen and buy today.

Bon Voyage really take the listener on a musical journey, from superb female vocals from Julie Martin and surf guitars by her husband Jason of Starflyer 59. The feel of this album is very relaxed like a warm summer day or brisk walk in the rain. The lyrics are melancholy much along the lines of Starflyer, in fact this band sounds like Starflyer 59 but with female vocals. Gene Eugene does an excellent job of producing this album so that all the tracks flow into a cohesive piece. It will get stuck in your head and rock you to sleep. It's just as good as The Sundays or Mazzy Star, in fact it's better just unrecognized by the brainwashed public. We know how you feel.

I can't wait for their new album because this album still entertains me. It is like New Order meets Garbage, only somehow even cooler. If it is still available, buy it now! If not, you don't have long to wait for their new album.

Musical perfection!,

I heard the two songs from this album on the BEC sampler "Moms Like Us Too" and knew I just had to get this album. It was even better than I expected. Every song is absolutely awesome. I normally only listen to a new CD several times a week, or one I really like maybe every day, but when I got this I listened to it three times IN A ROW day after day. The guitars are fuzzed out and dreamy, the vocals are whispery, adding to the dreaminess. The sound perfectly fits for a hot, lazy summer day in July or August, near sunset.I like to put some kind of comparison for readers just to put a handle on it. If you know Blondie's song "Atomic," there is some of that kind of guitar sound on this album. But this is sweeter, dreamier, fuzzier. Fans of Viva Voce and Morella's Forest should find this appealing. This was my #2 favorite album of 2000. The only reason my #1 album, Broomtree's "Transparent" topped it was because of Broomtree's lyrics. Many of the lyrics I can understand on Bon Voyage (my copy had no lyric sheet) are strange or have incomprehensible meaning. But musically, this album is sheer perfection. I continue to listen to it every summer.

I first heard this group on a sampler, and well I fell in love with the woman's voice. She just allowed my brain to relax to a near point of a coma. I'd have to say even on the songs that contain distortion her voice just keeps your mind at peace. I've never found another band that could do that.

I didn't want to like this album.
I am a rabid fan of Starflyer 59, the "main band" of Bon Voyage's Jason Martin. So when I heard an album was coming out with his wife on lead vocals, i thought 'oh, isn't THAT nice.' "Sure, honey, you can sing lead on a whole album." like lucy riccardo begging ricky to let her be in his show. then i saw the disc in a used-CD rack for five bucks and said, "oh, what the hey." well all i can say is thank God i got it-- it is remarkable in its beauty. if you have heard Starflyer 59 and the music moves you, makes you close your eyes and get utterly disoriented and weightless-- there are songs to love on this album. Tracks 3 and 7 stand out especially, but 1,4, and 10 are favorites of mine too. This disc is worth the price of admission and has a really nicely-designed insert too. Even funnier is the fact that i found this CD to be slightly annoying until i got used to Julie Martin's voice-- i couldn't listen to more than one or two songs at first. But then the first song really hooked me and I started playing it in my car all the time. Such is life... Bon appetit.
