French Press Makes Superior Coffee,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: BonJour Hugo 3-Cup French Press, Black (Kitchen)
French Press will make superior cup of coffee compared to regular coffee makers. I ordered this when I was staying at a hotel because I couldn't stand how bad their coffee tasted. Using the same coffee ground, this press made impressive tasting coffee. However, beware that the bottom part of this is made of rubber and is NOT attached to the glass part. Not that it's a problem, but I just don't like the idea of misplaced parts. Also, be careful with the mesh part, like the previous reviewer said - my previous french press had a small fold through which all coffee grounds passed through, making the coffee undrinkable. When I plan to use it the next day or so, I usually just rinse the whole thing under running water, slightly unscrewing the filter to get the grounds in between parts out. Overall, a great product at a cheap price.

Great small cup of coffee,

This thing is so simple and easy. Don't waste your money on more expensive 3 cup (that's euro sizes - it equals about 10/12oz) french press. This one handles the job perfectly. It has two screens, which means no/less grinds in your cup. you have the normal press screen, plus a screen attached to the lid that acts as double protection when you pour. It's great. Not sure how you can break this sucker either (see other review). it's simple and uncomplicated. You really don't need to throw it in the dishwasher...in fact they don't recommend it. Here's what the instructions say about cleaning: "Although BonJour coffee and tea maker parts are top rack dishwasher safe, we recommend hand washing with a mild detergent." Nuff said. Just give it a good rise right after you're done pouring out your coffee and you're good to go. for the price, this thing can't be beat!

3 Cups does not equal 3 measuring cups,
This review is from: BonJour Hugo 3-Cup French Press, Black (Kitchen)
It really equals 3 tea cups. I found the name of the product on Amazon completely misleading. No where on the packaging does it say "3-cup." As a prior review says, it is much smaller. This is enough coffee for one person (barely). I recommend the larger size.

Broken french press = no caffeine = BAD!,
This review is from: BonJour Hugo 3-Cup French Press, Black (Kitchen)
I purchased this particular french press two months ago. I was delighted, as it stated that it was 'top rack dishwasher safe'. However, despite diligently following those precious directions, the press came apart without any hope of salvation as I went to press my coffee. The beaker was fine, but the broken press left me with a nice cup of sludge. Something that feeds such a vital addiction as the morning cup of coffee should not fall apart when one needs it the most!

Terrific!,
This review is from: BonJour Hugo 3-Cup French Press, Black (Kitchen)
Please ignore the people who reviewed and didn't realize that 3 cups are DEMITASSE cups, which are the small cups of coffee served at fancy-shmancy restaurants. Coffee "cups" are traditionally measured in demitasse sizes, NOT in the coffee mugs you buy at the store. That said, this French press makes ONE average mug-size cup of coffee and it does a great job! I bought this French press to replace my husband's press, which I accidentally broke. It's better than the old one! I love the extra filter in the lid because it keeps out the few extra coffee grounds that inevitably slip through the main filter (this happens with all French presses, including our old one and our big 8 cup press). I also like that its unbreakable, so I won't ever have to buy one again! The price is fabulous. I tried to find a small French press locally, but it was hard to find one in this size and at a reasonable price. Most of them ran $20-$30 and were breakable and didn't have the nifty rubber stand on the bottom. I got this one for much less, and that included the shipping! This French press deserves a much higher rating than people have given it. I HIGHLY recommend this press, just remember it makes one mug and three demitasse! :-D

I have no idea why this product is marketed as a 3 cup. After adding the ground coffee you'll barely get enough water in it to make a standard mug/cup. I don't know about you but a cup of coffee for me is actually a Cup in measure. The quality is good but the rubber base should be removed before microwave heating or it gets too hot (nearly melted).Hugo says this thing is "Unbreakable" but I don't want to test it out since it feels like tempered glass. Yes I know what Polycarbonate or Lexan feel like.

Not Three Cups,

Maybe three demitasse cups. This is a standard one-cup French Press, providing about 10 oz of brew. It is an adequate French Press - how can you screw that up? (Conversely, what can you do to make one special?) My beef is that this is advertised as 3 cups which I take to mean 24 oz raw capacity. I should have known something was up when the fluid ounce capacity was not specified. The price was good, even at the reduced capacity, thus the 3rd star.

Even works GREAT with tea,

I use my Bonjour press to press my loose Earl Grey tea leaves. It does a fantastic job and the measuring scoop you get with this thing is the perfect size for scooping tea. Get this... it even works great for pressing tea bags to get that extra kick of tea. I don't drink coffee (sorry if that is blasphemy), but I am sure it would do just fine with coffee. This press is NOT a standard U.S. 3 cups. You will do good to get 10-12 oz. out of it. Some may complain about that, but even though it is a little misleading, it is perfect for my 15 oz. mug.

I have no idea where they came up with 3 cups on this because it will only take about 8 oz. of water. They must mean demi-tasse cups. It is really too small to use if you are making more than just one small cup of coffee. I love the idea of a "French Press" coffee maker but after you bring your water to a boil, pour it over the grounds, let it set for about 5 minutes, then press it out, I would like to have more to show for my time and effort.

Not really, unless you add up what I WOULD have paid for all the coffee I have made with it, at Starbuck's prices. But it has more than paid for it'self many, many times over.Sure, it is small, but people who complain it is TOO small should have realized they were talking Euro sizes, and those darn Europeans drink out of some really TINY cups. Microscopic, actually. I carry it with me everywhere I go, it is the perfect size for that. And I have lost count of how many times I have used it, at least ten million times (not really). I love that the little rubber boot, which is apparantely NOT microwaveable according to one unfortunate reviewer, comes off so I can sit it directly on the burner of a Bunn coffee maker for quick access to hot water at work. And I also love the secondary filter in the lid, once you get your technique down you will never have grounds in your coffee again. This is something that cannot be said for other, more expensive brands of French press. It is well worth the money I paid for it. Did I say that already?? Hell, for the price you should buy two in case you manage to break one, although they are tough as nails. I guess you could break it, nothing's indestructible to someone who puts their mind to it. |
