When I finally did get it full (after spilling A LOT), I found that it was very easy to start the flame and control how much flame I needed. However, when full, it ran out of fuel after perhaps four minutes of medium-level flame.
When I tried to fill a second time... no luck. I called their 800-# but got them when they were not in the office. Their web site has a basic knowledge base, but the troubleshooting info for "filling" just has a scan of the directions. I couldn't find any articles elsewhere on internet.
I give up! It looks and feels expensive and well made. Perhaps I got a bad one. After doing some research on-line, propane is about as hot as butane, and doesn't have anything dangerous in it. I'm going to get a propane torch and try that for creme brule instead. At Home Depot, the propane tanks are, literally, 4x the size of the butane tanks and less expensive.
I will say this: It was great to have a torch in the kitchen. Creme brulee in my own house!!!
Like someone wrote here, mine came with full fuel. I couldn't see any air inside the window so tried to fill up and didn't go in. So I turned it on and noticed it had full fuel already. So, if you purchase this item, you should try using it before filling it up.
I made 2 creme brulee in 5" diameter dishes and used about 1/3 of the fuel. It hold enough to make 6 or more so you don't have to keep filling up. There is a small knob on the side at the top of this torch which I didn't know until I was done using it (read instructions!!!). It is to hold the frame so you don't have to keep holding the turn on button.

I bought one of these little guys a while ago and ended up having to move. My moving company wouldn't allow me to bring any combustibles with us so this guy had to stay up north. Read morePublished 21 days ago by Alex

If you need a torch for occasional use this is fine, however if you are using it more daily like I did it will die quickly. Read morePublished 1 month ago by C. Land
